Don't trust him at all. He tried to tell me I needed a root canal, when I have no pain. He tried proving to me on an xray but I couldn't see anything. He kept saying the black part, however there wasn't any. I could go on and on, but I won't. Going for a second opinion

Dr Smolkin operates out of this office two days a month. The office is pretty average but the equipment is very old (10-20 years) and some of it pretty worn out. I had one procedure where one piece of equipment broke in the middle of it (for which they don't have a backup) and he had to use a propane Bunsen burner (which took over 30 minutes to find) to finish it . He is not rude, but very abrupt. This office is total chaos, with the doctors handing 3-4 patients at a time. You get about 5 minutes of their time every 30 minutes as the go back and forth from patient to patient. My last procedure by Dr. Smolkin took about 20 minutes total but was spread out over three hours. My last two root canals are still sensitive two years later. He and the other doctors at this office push elaborate and expensive treatments for a problem, rather than starting with conservative, least invasive, less expensive, approaches. I have to wonder if their recommended treatment options are designed to maximize their billings well beyond what is a medically necessary treatment. They encourage "preventative" treatments for problems that don't exist yet, but might in the future (or might not)

Just been in van Nuys office, I am not really internet person but I had to review this dentist, i went there for consultation. very unfriendly and rude staff but worst than them was the dentist , he was so obnoxious and he did not answer any of my question and he did not spent even more than 2 minutes after looking at my x-ray . He just trying to send me a back to my general dentist for relay small work. And they want to charge me $250.00 more from different dentist for same job. I donâ??t recommend this dentist to anyone.

I have to say worth experience I had in dentist. My insurance refers me there for root canal for 365.00 dollar. I made appointment very easy and very nice staff over the phone. Over the phone secretary mention I am going there for observation and there is no charge. My general dentist and my insurance base on X-ray they said I need a root canal. My GD did not open my tooth because she said if I open it, you are going to have pain, she said Endodontist do that when he wants to do root canal . I went there and I have to say very rude dentist(endodontist). He said no I don't open it if I do it cost you 300-400 dollars extra. Go back to your GD and open there , they give me a new appointment again .I receive a bill for 58.00 dollar for consultation from Dr Darren Smolkin in 2 days after visit . I went back to my GD and she opened it. And pain started. I went back to Smolkin office on my appointment time and they said I have to pay the bill and I have to pay 120.00 dollar extra for root canal. My insurance does not cover extra. Anyway with so much pain I decide to choose a different endodontist and I did. What a bad experience.
