Dr. Ryan Max Johnson

My 18 year old daughter went to him to have her wisdom teeth and roots of another tooth extracted. We waited 5 months trying to find an oral surgeon that does IV sedation. Well, the day of the appt. The Dr. Walked in and I tried to shake his hand, he brushed me off and seemed very agitated. My daughter also noticed his "attitude" as well. Maybe because the scheduler Marianna was also having a pissy attitude. So the Dr. "Attempts" 2 IV sticks and misses, did not even try a 3rd which is standard practise and I, as a trauma Nurse of 22 years could have easily placed the iv in her right radial vein. We asked the tech if he could at least TRY the radial. He REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK. So no iv sedation, they gave her the equivalent of a low does valium...thats it! If that would have been acceptable we would have gone to a general dentist, which btw..thats what he is. He is NOT an oral surgeon, he is a GENERAL DENTIST WITH A BAD ATTITUDE. So he now wants to extract all 4 wisdom teeth (1 horizontal one) and a root extraction with NO SEDATION. That is barbaric and inexcusable. My daughter just wants this over with as she has been waiting for 5 months to get in with an oral surgeon. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A DENTIST. If you have a bad feeling about the visit or if the Dr and the "Scheduler" are both rude and pissy towards you or your child, RUN, RUN FAR. I personally would not take a dog to Dr. Johnson if he was the LAST "Dentist that does oral surgery" on earth. Make sure you find a true ORAL SURGEON, not a general dentist. We were lied to, treated like crap and will file a complaint with every agency I can so this deception, and attitude does not happen to anyone else. Please do your homework before scheduling anything. I would not let him go a teeth cleaning on anyone I care about.

They did a wonderful job on taking all four of my wisdom teeth out. Very pleased with their work!

I have always been afraid of going to the dentist. This is the first time I felt no pain.

I had a horrible toothache and called several places (I had never been to an Abilene dentist so I was searching the internet) and no other office was willing to work me in. When I called Dr. Max Johnson's office, the receptionist was very friendly and told me to come on it, that they would fit me in. I had a wisdom tooth that needed to be removed and my local dentist was unwilling to pull it, he said I needed an oral surgeon to pull it. I told Dr. Johnson's office what my local dentist had told me and he said he would look at it and see what he could do, but made sure I was aware that he was not an oral surgeon. His assistants got an X-Ray of my teeth and Dr. Johnson said he COULD remove it for me. (YAY!!!) He and his assistants were very nice and made me feel very comfortable. It felt like no time and my tooth was out. Dr. Johnson's office offers all types of sedation including "laughing" gas, IV and oral but I chose not to use any sedative because I had driven myself to his office. I was awake thru the procedure and his injections were NOT painful at all. They were very tolerable and he made sure that I was completely numb before he started. I have recommended Dr. Max Johnson to several people already and will continue to refer him. I was very impressed with Dr. Max Johnson, his assistants, his receptionist and his office in general! I will definitely go back if need be.
