I first met Dr. Carli when he replaced my right hip 2020 pre-pandemic. He was very compassionate and explained the tiniest details about the surgery. All went well, and after my final follow-up, he mentioned my left knee would need to be replaced in the future. His words were 'your quality of life is most important'. In 2023, it was time. Many friends complained about post-op pain after their knee replacement. Dr. Carli sent me to pre-surgery physical therapy to strengthen my leg. Because of this, I had no pain after the surgery. Dr. Carli, his staff, and everyone at HSS makes a scary experience almost pleasant.

HSS Review by James Waldron, Ph.D. BD: 03/30/1943 October 28, 2023 I want to highly recommend HSS for any orthopedic surgery you are considering. I originally had a double knee replacement nearly 9 years ago at Englewood Hospital. At that time the surgeon used a knee that was not standard and therefore had to be replaced. After I fell 4 years ago, it was so painful since the bones (tibia and femur) did not line-up properly. The revision surgery, on my right knee was a rather complex procedure which only a knee surgeon specialist, like Dr. Alberto Carli at HSS, could correct. My surgeon Dr. Alberto Carli did an amazing job fixing my knee/leg. Surgery was on August 16th and I was able to be discharged on August 23 to my home with my partner, Anne Marie Ayala, a retired nurse. The entire staff at HSS was excellent, including Ryan, assistant to Dr. Carli in NYC, who was always there via phone call before my surgery to arrange all necessary pre-opt appointments, answer questions that I had, and more. Pain management was personalized to my satisfaction, the physical therapists were getting me up the first day after surgery and were very careful and thorough during my post-operative stay at HSS. All the doctors on Dr Carli’s team were excellent as were all the nursing staff at HSS. They arranged for an HSS PT to come to my home 2 days per week for 4 weeks plus a home care nurse, Nancy, who came a few times to check on incision and drain and remove stitches. In addition, I also found it very convenient that HSS has a satellite out-patient for pre and post op patients (X-rays, follow-up care, etc.) in Paramus, NJ which is only 20 minutes from my apartment in Suffern, NY.

I was in wheel chair when I come to see dr. A. Carli. Few orthopedists told me that here is nothing they can do for extensive damage to the knee join I suffered . Dr. Carli performed very successful knee replacement surgery. Thank to his skills I am back on my feet and no longer incapacitated. I am grateful I can walk again.

Dr. Carli did a full knee replacement for me 6 weeks ago. The experience, from beginning to end, has been nothing but spectacular. His pleasant, positive,informative nature allowed me to possess the confidence that I needed to undergo this surgery. I have suffered with pain for two years and now i look forward to a painfree life as my recovery progresses. Dr. Carli's staff must be commended for their professionalism and ability to make me feel included in this entire process. Ryan Wadhams, Dr. Carli's medical secretary, provided me with the answers to my constant questions. Dr. Carli's skill and confident nature helped me to understand this procedure and its recovery, and I am forever grateful for Dr. Carli and his staff.

It's been a year since my hip replacement, and if it wasn't a scar, I would probably not remember I had a surgery. Dr. Carli did a wonderful job. My surgery was long and quite complex, but two weeks after the surgery I was able to walk with no cane. And no limping!!! My recovery was smooth and almost pain free. Dr. Carli is an amazing surgeon. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and polite. He took time to explain the procedure, and what to expect after the surgery. He has an excellent bedside manners. His staff is very professional and helpful. I would highly recommend Dr. Carli and his entire staff.

I had knee replacement surgery with Dr. Carli @hss in august. It has been almost two months since my surgery. The care I was given from Dr.Carli and his staff has been incredible. Any questions or concerns I had have always been handled and explained to me in a very professional manner. They have followed up with me on my recovery and I hold them in the highest regard. From the time I finished all my tests in Paramus to my surgery in Manhattan all of Dr. Carli 's staff were amazing! He is an excellent surgeon. He listened to me and was so nice and kind. I would use him again.

My hip replacement surgery went smoothly from beginning to end. Dr Carli and his staff did an outstanding job. Alexa and Awa were particularly helpful. I am an 82 year old man who has had multiple surgeries but this one leads the list in terms of professionalism, organization , follow through and good humor.

I found my visits to the HSS facility in Paramus and the hospital in New York to be both efficient and professional - stress free! which was a comfort. Dr Carli and team consistently provided information and answered questions fully. This all gave me confidence before my hip replacement operation. There were no problems after the surgery. Subsequently, a year later no one would guess I have a 'fake' hip. I've been fully mobile and leading a full life. Thank you Dr Carli.

Dr Carli possesses impressive expertise and effectively communicates in layman's terms to explain the necessity for the surgery, the procedure itself, and the type of hardware that will be used for the total knee replacement. This approach greatly reassures patients and provides them with a clear understanding. My recovery was smooth, with minimal pain. I regained my ability to walk without a cane within two weeks. I'm still in the recovery phase, but I'm genuinely pleased with the remarkable progress I've made so far.

Dr. Carli performed a replacement of an infected hip replacement, a complicated procedure. He was always there for me, to explain the situation and listen to my concerns. He gave me personal attention that I have rarely received, and gave me back the ability to walk. I am grateful.

I was very impressed with Dr. Carli at my first visit to HSS in Paramus.He was very professional but also friendly and relatable. He spent a lot of time explaining the procedure Of total knee replacement.He answered all my questions & made me feel that I was important and would be in very capable hands. I am extremely happy with the outcome of my surgery and happy I made the choice of going to HSS even though it was not convenient to do so because of the distance.. I am so thankful!

My experience was excellent. I had a right hip replacement which went off without a hitch! Whatever question I called with or asked, Dr. Carli and his staff were pleasant, respectful and got back to me. I highly recommend Dr. Carli if you need knee replacement surgery. He is a highly skilled surgeon in addition to be kind and compassionate. All of my questions were answered in a patient, thoughtful and thorough manner. I am one year out from surgery and am back to taking long walks, exercising and climbing the many steps in my home. Doctor Carli performed revision knee surgery on both of my knees, in OCT2021 and JAN2023. Prior to Dr. Carli performing the revision surgeries I obtained multiple opinions from highly recommended surgeons in NYC and NJ. We chose Dr. Carli due to his experience in knee reconstructive surgery, his technical knowledge and ability, and his overall confidence. He explained the revision knee procedure in detail and told me of the increased risks of infection and blood clots versus initial knee replacements. I saw him numerous times before my surgeries and he always listened to my concerns, taking his time to answer all of my questions. He put me at ease with his friendly bed side manner and he gained my trust entirely. I felt I was in very capable hands going into my surgeries and that was very important to me. And, the fact that Dr. Carli practices at HSS, which consistently has the best ratings when it comes to low infection and blood clot rates, is a plus-plus for choosing Dr. Carli. I am10 weeks out from my recent right knee revision surgery and I'm doing great! My range of motion is 120 degrees and I'm already driving and taking short walks. Dr. Carli's office staff reflects his personality. They are extremely courteous, friendly and professional, and always respond to my calls and messages in a very timely manner. His PA's are excellent, providing timely and thorough follow-up care regarding my pain management and the healing of my incision, both in the hospital and when I was at home. Dr. Carli is an amazing doctor and surgeon and I highly recommend him to anyone experiencing knee/hip pain and possibly in need of knee/hip surgery. I have already recommended him to family members and friends. In addition to his office in Manhattan he also has an office at the HSS Paramus, NJ location which is very convenient for those living in the upper NY/NJ area.
