Dr. Abby Aspel Smith, MD

I needed to see an OBGYN and was assigned an appointment with Dr. Smith. When she entered the room, she didn't bother to introduce herself and instead insisted I start telling her about my family medical history and why I was there. She then claimed the paper cover up wouldn't fit me and started looking for a different one (which I've had no problems with at any other doctor office) She seemed annoyed after it was noted I suffer from depression and anxiety while going over my chart. I am overweight and would like to conceive a child with my husband, which is the reason I was there and when I told her that her tone shifted to be even worse as the appointment went on. Not only did she berate me for being overweight, she diagnosed me with PCOS without running any type of test, I asked her how she knew and she responded with "It's obvious just by looking at you." How on earth can you tell a patient that? She then continued to berate me over my weight by telling me even if I did conceive a child she wouldn't treat me and would send me to Boston because she "couldn't accommodate me here." and "Even if I did get pregnant, the child would be at risk for all kinds of heart conditions and deformities." I was visibly upset and she then asked me if I considered weight watchers or gastric bypass surgery. When I told her no, that I don't even eat that extremely, she responded with "Well I'm not suggesting anything extreme!" How is gastric bypass not extreme? She then responded to me saying "I'm not being mean, I'm just brutally honest, I'm not here to sugarcoat things." Never once did she ask me if I was trying to lose weight (I am, very hard) After I left the office in tears, I was requested to do blood work but I refuse to see her again. Not only was she rude, condescending and miserable she was extremely inappropriate in the way she spoke to me as a patient. Never in my life have I ever been treated so horribly by someone in the medical field.

I didn't feel very comfortable with this doctor after the first visit. She was incredibly rude and hateful. When I switched to a different doctor she came in the room and said "I think there was a mistake because you're my patient and they scheduled you to see someone else." When I told her that I had made an appointment to see the other doctor she said "Well, that's not how we generally do things here. You've already seen me so you're supposed to stay with the same physician." I was pregnant at the time and she also told me "You know I could be delivering your baby if I'm on call, so you'll have to deal with me anyways. Then she stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut behind her. My husband was at the appointment with me and witnessed everything. Most unprofessional physician I have EVER dealt with.

in three appointments this doctor was increasingly short with me and not respectful. Finding someone new was an easy decision, she appears to not care about her job.

I saw Dr. Smith once and that was enough. She was not very friendly. I am 18 and this was the first time I went to the gynecologist by myself and was nervous. When I told her this was my first time alone she kept reminding me that I'm an "adult" now and don't need my mom to come with me. Yes, I am technically an adult but I don't particularly feel comfortable going by myself. I was very nervous and she didn't do much to help me relax. She was not gentle during the exam and I was in pain. She hardly asked me questions and I didn't get a chance to ask her many of mine. When I brought up my concerns about my birth control pills she kinda blew them off and just suggested I get an IUD. She handed me a pamphlet and said here, if you want to get it then just schedule an appt at the front desk. After the exam, all she did was tell me to get dressed and make an appt if I want the IUD and walked out..she didn't say bye or anything. I was confused as to whether the appt was over with or not. Her bedside manner is not great at all. She knows her stuff but I was not comfortable. I'm only 18..she had no sympathy at all for a newbie. I waited for about 35 min only to be rushed through my appointment. I will be finding another gyno.

I have been a patient of Dr. Abby Smith for many years and have developed a mutual respect relationship with her. My interactions with Dr. Smith and her entire office staff have always been pleasant, positive, and informative. She cares about her patients as is demonstrated by her professional mannerisms.

I have been going to Dr. Smith for a number of years and she knows her profession very well. More importantly she explains things very well.

Dr. Abby Smith is the utmost of professionalism and sincere personal care. She is to be commended for her dedication to caring for women.

Dr. Smith has been my obgyn for 17 years. We met during my pregnancy. Immediately felt in good hands with her straight forward professionalism. Years later I am still impressed with her high standards regarding my health. Most recent experience was handled the way you would expect it to be handled which seems to be rare these days with my experiences with other doctors offices. From calling to make appointment in a reasonable time. To minimal waiting room time!!! To addressing, resolving and following through issues immediately, resolving them promptly and following through respectfully. Dr. Abby Smith is outstanding!

Dr. Abby Smith is a Top-Rate Physician. I have been seeing her for many years. She is a very kind person. She explains what she will be doing and why. She has always treated me with respect and kindness. I feel lucky to have her as my doctor.

I have been a patient of Dr Smiths for years which, in itself, says a lot about how much I like her and her staff. I don't know where else you can go and get this "bedside service " I absolutely love them and recommend them highly

I've only had one appointment with her, that was enough. She was rude and condescending. Rushed through the appointment and was very rough even after I complained of pain during the exam. I left in tears and had pain the rest of the day.

I've been to Dr Smith a couple of times now for routine GYN appts and she is by far the best dr of that specialty that I've seen - ever. The office staff is prompt and courteous and there was virtually no waiting time. Dr. Smith is friendly and put me at ease. I'm glad I found her.

Awfull experience with this doctor. I had to be induced due to preeclampsia and she basically pushed me into having a c section saying there was a one in a thousand chance for me to have baby naturally as I lay there in pain after failed epidural. She was condescending and uncaring. Pregnant now with #2 and I will not be returning to her or her practice!

A friend recommended Dr. Smith to me. However, from my first visit I was disappointed. I went for a routine exam and to discuss options for birth control as I am getting married in a few months and have not used BC before. She told me that "all birth control was basically the same" and then recommended Yaz, the most expensive BC there is right now as far as I know. From what I understand, different BC pills have different side effects that are more common to users, yet Dr. Smith did not discuss this at all. She also forgot to give me instructions on BC, and came back into the room to rush through them. Overall, I did not feel very comfortable seeing her. I felt she had a rather condescending attitude toward me. The office staff were very friendly, and the wait time was incredibly short. I was also able to make an appointment within a week!

We have had very good experience with Dr. Smith. She was very professional and caring during our routine visits.
