Dr. Amy Jane Derick, MD

I went to Derick for an annual skin cancer screening and a few unrelated matters. Upon my arrival, the front desk could not verify my insurance. My insurance had changed and I provided them with my new insurance information. However, they couldn't figure out why it wouldn't go through and told me I needed to pay for the entire visit. After about 15 minutes of them going back and forth when I expressed my disappointment, they finally saw me an said the insurance was worked out. I had to wait approximately 15 more minutes after that point to be seen (now I'm over 30 minutes past my appointment time). Once in the room, the nurse was friendly, however when the doctor came in - it was clear he was in a rush to get to the next patient. Additionally, when I asked him questions on the other items I had questions on - he couldn't seem to understand the questions and then when he finally did basically did nothing. I subsequently saw a different doctor who was able to provide a treatment. The Derick doctor clearly was uninterested in treating me and left me feeling like I was just a checked off task. Post appointment, I received one bill which I promptly paid through my online bill pay. Approximately 2 months later I received a letter basically saying that if I didn't pay immediately they would send it to collections and "end our relationship". I called to complain about the letter and process to be told by the office manager that this is their "process". So, the process is to treat a patient as if you don't care about them at all and all that matters is if they get paid? The process is to not give any attention to the patient while there but give them a ton of attention when you don't find the check? Ridiculous. They cash the check and then say I didn't pay it after a terrible experience and then threaten to "end the relationship". Thanks but no thanks! The staff is unfriendly, clearly do not care about their patients and as quickly as they are growing have lost touch with the whole reason they say they are in business...to give the best possible care.

I had a very negative experience at Derrick Dermatology in Crystal Lake. I was given Botox injections that had little to NO effect, after which these “effects” were pointed out to me in a photo. I did not agree with the assessment of the PA who had administered the injections and did not see any visible effects. My expectations were based on previous injections I received from a different provider. Derrick dermatology made no effort to “make it right “...only offered to provide an additional injection at full price. Not sure why they thought I would want to pay for a second injection, when the first produced no results. I feel cheated and “robbed” by Derrick. Will go elsewhere for cosmetic injections in the future (back to my original provider...which is whereI SHOULD have gone this time). I will also find a new dermatologist. I do not trust this practice and will not return.

Be leary of staff changing your medications!!!! Stafff at Dr. Derick's Crystal Lake office changed my son's acne antibiotic that was working wonders to another antibiotic that "we like better". He only had a few months left to use an antibiotic and this change in medication regressed his acne to what it was before treatment. Three Calls to office to rectify situation left me with a secretary telling me there was nothing they could do with their mistake. So sorry we left our previous dermatologist. We will never return to Derick.

Thought with all different kinds of equipment, they could help with old acne scars and redness......wrong! Dr Derick not only wouldn't do any type of laser treatment, insisted on medication I was previously on years ago that I told her didn't work back then......didn't work again after wasting 3 months of time and money. Then went back after 3 months, saw nurse practitioner who called the doctor while I was in exam room....Dr Derick diagnosed my skin condition over the phone! Told nurse to keep me on same medication without even seeing me. Terrible.

I enjoy going to the office of Dr. Derrick.Dr. Derrick and staff are friendly and courteous. I recommend the office to family and friends.

Dr. Derick is a highly qualified doctor who cares a lot about her patients. A good doctor needs to be very detail oriented, and you can tell by everything from the clean, well appointed offices to the precise examination that she is that kind of MD. I have been going to her for skin care for several years now and keep coming back. I trust her with my skin.

I went in their for my first treatment, the staff was very professional and knew what she was doing. The entire process didn't take long at all and I didn't feel any pain. The next day they called me back to follow up on how I was feeling and they were really nice about it. After 3 and half weeks I was completely recovered and I could see some results already. This is definitely the right place to go for tattoo removal treatements.

My 3 year old son had to have a birth mark removed. Dr. Derick and her staff were outstanding. They were quick, caring, and did an amazing job. Very highly recommended.

Derick Dermatology is a very professional facility. The staff and offices are top notch. My siblings all use Dr. Derick for their different dermatological needs. Everyone has had great results. The technology is up to date and Dr. Derick is professional while still being personable.

I noticed a mole on my back and made an appointment with Dr. Derick's office. I had a full scan of my body for skin cancer and had the mole removed. I was contacted once they found the results to be benign. I would highly recommend this office because they are very knowledgeable and professional.

Beautiful office! I went for a consultation and I was a bit nervous at first. I was quickly put at ease and felt very comfortable talking with the Medical Assistant about all my concerns. I was able to have a procedure done by Dr. Derick right away and I am more than pleased with the results. I highly recommend this office!

Went to this practice recently, and had a heck of an experience. The technician who performed my procedure was incompetent, to say the least. As a result, she damaged my skin. Upon attempting to follow-up with Dr. Derick, she was clueless as to how to treat my skin damage, and extemely unprofessional in her manner as well. Additionally, the wait time was ridiculously long. I waited 20 minutes before I was called into a room, and then I was left waiting for another 15 minutes while in the room. To make matters worse, the technician was in and out of the room three times before she finally started my procedure! Would NOT recommend this practice to anyone.

I have been going to Dr. Derick's office for 6 years, and prefer to see her instead of the PA. Dr. Derick takes time to answer all of your questions and is always professional, yet personable. I saw many dermatologists before seeing Dr. Derick, and she has been the ONLY one to treat my acne successfully, and improve my overall appearance. I am 46 years old, have always get compliments on how young I look, and how nice my skin looks. All I have to say is " Thank You Dr. Derick!"

I have had 5 treatments done at Derick Dermatology and all of my visits have been great! I work in the medical field myself, so it's nice to be on the other side and feel welcomed like I do in my occupation.

Although I can usually get an appointment on the day and time that works with my schedule, recently I was truly disappointed. I called Derick Dermatology for an appointment in March; however, I was not able to schedule a treatment until mid-May, since the doctor and several PA's were on maternity leave. It seems that arrangements should have been made to find suitable coverage during this maternity leave, so that patients could continue to receive desired treatments. Hopefully, this will not be a problem in the future.

I love the fact that they had extended office hours so I didn't need to take off of work.Everyone I met at Derick Dermatology was extremely nice and helpful! The waiting area was beautiful and I felt very relaxed while waiting - although I didn't wait long. About the time I finished signing in the were ready to bring me back to the room. I worked with Karen Smith and she couldn't have been better. I was in for a full body skin cancer check - which has the potential to be embarrasing... but she was so professional and sweet I forgot I was 99% undressed (except for my gown) and was laughing and talking about wedding plans. I had a biopsy and the nurse called within a couple of days to give me the results. I wish every doctor I visited was as efficient as Dr. Derick's office! A++Not to mention they gave me a handful of Rx samples to try before I filled the actual prescription. :)

Dr.Derrick & her staff seemed very efficient & thorough. I signed a tablet to verify I read the documentation. Saves alot of paper and time. I have another appointment for follow up. Sent a perscription to my pharmacy while I was still there. She also gave me sheet with aftercare instructions.

I have always been very pleased with the care and treatment I receive at Derick Dermatology. The office is beautiful, the staff are kind, and wait time has never been long. They always take the time to explain procedures to me and to answer any questions I may have, and I've been very pleased with the results of my skin treatments.
