Terrible experience. I honestly hate writing bad reviews for doctors, but Dr. Whitney was extremely rude, unprofessional, and incompetent. She contradicted herself multiple times during the appointment, didn’t answer any of my questions, and at one point abruptly left the room. I thought she was coming back and had left to go get something. Nope, the nurse came in and was like “ok, you can go now.” I asked if I could ask Dr. Whitney a few questions, and the nurse just looked blankly at me and said I could call if I had any questions. Of course, I tried to call three times the next day, spent forever going through a phone tree, only to get disconnected each time. I left the appointment with more questions than answers. Our son ended up being admitted to the hospital a few weeks later. Fortunately, a different pediatric gastroenterologist was recommended to us. He is Dr. Whitney’s opposite and I am so glad our son is in his care now. I had heard great things about Dr. Whitney, but after my experience, I would never recommend her.
My daughter was 6 weeks premature and was having a lot of belly issues. We were referred to Dr. Whitney who was incredible. She's very knowledgeable and her recommendations tremendously helped our baby. We're very thankful!
We went through all the symptoms my child was having with Dr. Whitney, and all she seemed to care about was insisting the EGD/Colonoscopy be done. Once that was complete (and she got paid), she didn't care: she just gave us a lame response of "oh, I have no idea what it could possibly be." We were absolutely appalled by her lack of basic med school knowledge (forget GI training) and inappropriate follow through. After switching to another GI, we were given several treatment options just by the doctor looking through the chart. The new GI doctor even said there was no need to put a small child through the distress of such an unnecessary procedure. Shame on Ms. Whitney for pushing her EGD clinic where she has ownership and billables at the expense of a small child.
Just so grateful for God bringing Dr. Whitney into our lives. Our a very busy schedule she took her time to sit down and explain to us what that meant and what our next steps were. You can imagine we were devastated, but I just remember her saying we were going to have more questions and she would be there to answer them. Of course we did and she and her staff have been there to support us every step of the way.
Dr. Whitney is amazing! She is compassionate and understands the stress parents go through trying to figure out what is wrong with their kids. She doesn't give up just because your kid doesn't follow what the medical journals say their disease or symptoms should be. So happy with her and even more happy my son is doing better!
Probably OK for minor concerns or maintenance of a previously confirmed diagnosis. With her for over a year with my two-year-old's "mystery" food allergy issues and she could never diagnose him. Never sent us to a food allergist, or nutritionist, just did invasive procedures. when results came back normally, suggested a full elemental diet for a child who had already fallen off the growth chart. She also lacked care and compassion when he badly failed a dairy trial, which started 10 weeks of chronic diarrhea. I became fed up and sought a second opinion - so glad I did! New GI at Children's immediately sent us to food allergist who diagnosed him with FPIES. Got nutritionist help and learned that his chronic diarrhea and other symptoms were a result of continued exposure to hidden milk. Dr Whitney had never counseled us on ingredients that hide milk and had even told us that any cooked milk was safe for him (untrue!). She also told us our elemental formula would never be covered by insurance - sure enough it is and the allergist/nutritionist got it covered in one day. Too bad we spent $2,000+ on it while in her care. Proceed with caution!
Office staff is very friendly and Dr. Whitney is always on time and dwhich is very much appreciated.
Dr Whitney has been my child's doctor and I have also worked with Dr Whitney IN the surgical setting. So I have experience with her from both the parent and professional side. I would recommend her to anyone.
We just love Dr. Whitney and have been taking our son to see her for his stomach issues. She is always patient and caring. She really takes the time to listen to what I have to say as a mom and what has been going on since the last visit. That means a lot to me. Without Dr. Whitney, I know that our son would not be doing as well as we are today. Thanks!!
We took our 7 year old son to her. We found her very compassionate, caring and thorough. I can't say enough good things about her!
We have seen Dr. Whitney for over a year for our 5 year old daughter. Dr. Whitney always takes the time to talk to us as well as our daughter to find out what is going on. On those occasions that additional testing is needed, she is always able to schedule it within a week.
Dr. Whitney made up her mind about what was wrong with my child sight-unseen and refused to accept that her diagnosis was wrong. She kept telling us that our child needed an endoscopy and colonoscopy and drugs with monthly follow-ups. We agreed to the tests, but declined the drugs. In the end, she had to be pushed and pushed by multiple people (medically affiliated and family members) to FINALLY agree to ordering a simple test...which showed the CORRECT diagnosis! We have NEVER heard from her or her office again.
This was one of the WORST visits to a physician that we've experienced. My toddler had chronic vomiting, refusal to eat, and lots of gas/burping. Dr. Whitney pushed and pushed for an endoscopy making us feel like that it was the end of the world if we did not move forward with this procedure. She even tried pushing us to go to her outpatient center (doctors often have ownership at outpatient centers and make more money on procedures), but I insisted on the hospital where there is more oversight. After putting my child under anesthesia and through this awful ordeal, everything came back normal. Instead of further clinically investigating based on symptoms and looking at other possibilities, Dr. Whitney threw up her hands and said "Well, I don't know what this could be. I'm lost." Really???? Isn't that what med school and GI fellowship are for? Since the procedure was done (and paid for), there wasn't any interest left in treating my child. Instead, she tried pushing a dangerous appetite stimulant drug: we of course refused stating that this was a "bandaid" fix that did not diagnose the underlying issue. I would not recommend this type of treatment to anyone. We found another reputable GI and our child is doing so much better now.
We went to Dr Whitney looking for answers on why our teenage son had stopped growing and was not gaining weight. He also had on- going gut issues. After reviewing his blood work from a previous doctor (that DR led us to believe IBD had been ruled out from the blood work) Whitney informed us our son had all the markings of IBD. This made sense as my son did have all the classic symptoms and the blood work (that was never shown to us from the previous dr) seemed to confirm this. Why the previous GI chose not to share the results of his blood work with us will always haunt us??? As it cost us several years of knowing what was wrong as he got sicker and sicker. Dr. Whitney wanted my son to do a colonoscopy to confirm. I asked how she would treat my son if she confirmed it was IBD. She rattled off several VERY toxic, dangerous drugs like Remicade. All the drugs were immune suppressing. We were not interested in this type of risky treatment and wanted to pursue other options and perhaps a second opinion. When we chose not to come back and do the colonoscopy with her she called CPS and turned us in. We had to go through a humiliating interview at our home in front of our teenage son about did we do drugs, how often did we consume alcohol, and had the police ever been called out to our home, etc. It was very stressful waiting for the "verdict" and put more stress on our family during an already difficult, sad time for us. Keep in mind Dr. Whitney's intent was to FORCE us to treat our son with TOXIC drugs because she was "concerned about him;" have you seen some of these nightmare stories in the news lately where dr.'s force their drugs on children against the parents wishes??? She wanted to get a judge via CPS to support her in this. I highly recommend you stay away from this doctor!!! By the way, today our teenage son is growing again, happy and healthy in college taking NO DRUGS!!! He had severe Crohn's but manages it with food (diet) and natural treatments. It has been a long road but he is recovering/healing from this dreadful illness with NO surgery and NO drugsâ?¦praise GOD.
My infant is steadily dropping weight. As a new mom, I am very concerned. Dr. Whitney was concerned enough to give us five minutes of her time. She never looked at my child, told us our child was fine, and then recommended we just change formula (and made us feel stupid for the formula choice we made). We found her to be dismissive and disinterested...not qualities i want in someone who would care fir my child. She was clearly not interested in building a relationship nor caring for our daughter. I will not return.
Our inititial 2 visits with Dr Whitney and her staff were great, her medical assistant was knowledgable and helpful, Dr Whitney was pretty thorough and offered honest advice. My recent dealing with Dr and her staff has made me decide to switch doctors and I am very disappointed in her and her staffs actions. My daughter had C diff for a month being managed by an infectious disease doctor, but despite all treatments she was not getting better. I called Dr Whitneys office and explained all things to medical assistant who said she would get back with me later that day. It took 4 days of me calling her back for a final return phone call to go get labs drawn, I called the medical assistant back for a reasoning for labs and she said so the Dr can try to figure out what is going on, I asked- did you tell her she has Cdiff? The lady asked me what it that? As a gastroenterology medical assistant I think you should know common diagnoses? The infectious disease MD contacted Dr Whitney who was very rude and snobby and told her that she was going out of the country and did not have time to see my daughter nor did any of her partners. So with that being said we will be finding a new GI doctor.
After reading some of the negative reviews, I was a little hesitant to make an appointment with Dr. Whitney. However, I was not satisfied with the first GI doctor I took my 3 month old to, who wanted to jump right into an endoscopy and unnecessarily switch his formula from one hypoallergenic brand to another, so I knew I needed another opinion. Dr. Whitney's staff was great from the start, and she herself walked into the room with a big smile. She was very friendly and told me to "start from the beginning", allowing me to explain every little issue my son was having without interrupting or tuning out. At the end of our appointment, she asked me "is there anything else you want to talk to me about?" How many doctors ask that rather than just walking out of the room as soon as they make a diagnosis? Also, I don't agree with the other reviewer who said she is money hungry. Rather than agreeing with the other doctor that my son needed an endoscopy, she chose to order an upper GI that won't get her any money but will save me some and, in the process, not subject my son to unnecessary invasive procedures. I can not say enough good things about her! THANK YOU Dr. Whitney :)
Rushed to perform unnecessary upper & lower GI, found only Hpilori & treated with antibiotic, but did not tell us to come back. One year late, we find out she should have had us check back in. My daughter apparently has had the virus this entire time because of new test we just did with new doctor.
My daughter had been choking whenever she ate, having chest pain and reflux and I needed to find her a good doctor. I was a little concerned about making an appointment with Dr Whitney because of some of the reviews, but I made the appointment anyway. I have no clue why anyone would write a bad review about her because we think Dr Whitney is fabulous. She immediately had my daughter scheduled for testing, and when the results came in Dr Whitney herself called me to give me the news. The diagnoses she gave us in the office the very first time we saw her was exactly what the test revealed and the medications she put her on after that have helped tremendously. She talks to my daughter like she is a friend that she cares about and not down to her. We love Dr Whitney and will reccomend her to anyone. Thank you Dr Whitney, for making my daughter feel important and for caring so much! You are not just a good doctor you are a wonderful, caring, compassionate doctor!
We have really appreciated Dr. Whitney. She is very conservative in her diagnosis and allows the parents and child to provide insight. She is willing to work with us in finding resolution instead of ordering more expensive testing or just repeating the same regiment other GI's have given us. I highly recommend her.
