Dr. Anthony Smartnick

THIS MAN SHOULD HAVE HIS LICENSE REVOKED. I was very close two years ago of loosing my life. I started the Spravoto treatment and this Dr was COMPLETELY CLUELESS on what he was doing. This Dr couldn’t even manage to find the solution or way out of a wet paper bag. His medical license should be revoked. STAY CLEAR. Also stay clear from GREENBROOK mental health services, Lifestance he has been employed by both facilities. Both of these facilities are a complete JOKE and should be boarded up.

This man needs prayer. I am an adult and Dr. Smartnick treated me like a child. He kept referring to my fiance as my "boyfriend," although I corrected him several times. After I explained one of my symptoms to him (irritability/losing temper infrequently) which had nothing to do with my fiance and neither my fiance nor I ever stated that it did, he had the audacity to ask " what else do you do to him?" Um.. excuse me? I never said I did anything to my fiance and neither did he. Perhaps Dr. Smartnick's wife does things to him? I went in for help for a mild case of depression and I was treated like a wayward woman. It was outrageous. He also prescribed harmful medication which gave me terrible side effects and when I tried to tell him he didn't show even a modicum of interest. Now I have concerns over possible long term effects. I honestly thought it was because I am a woman and he is a misogynist; however, now I see there are several males complaining as well. You know it's bad service when even men are complaining! No offense to women, but men typically conceal their feelings. If you take your health seriously, don't go to this man. He's nothing but a pill pusher. I highly recommend Dr. Todd M. Ivan . He's a gem of a Dr and a real asset to the local Psychiatric community!

I will begin by stating that Dr. Smartnick has as much business practicing psychiatry as Joe Biden has being president of the United States. I went to this so called "Dr." multiple times over the period of several months. During my five minute appointments, he did not once extend to me even the most basic courtesy. No "Hello." No "How are you?" You know, BASIC Manners. He just looked at his notes, was dismissive of all of my concerns and would then get up and open his office door. I suppose Smartnick would try and attribute his behavior to his being "a little socially awkward," as he likes to describe himself. If he is "socially awkward" then he shouldn't have chosen a profession where he has to interact with people. The fact is, Smartnick is not "socially awkward." He is simply arrogant, rude and incompetent. Regarding my case, no appropriate assessments were ever made. There was no monitoring of the drugs he put me on, just a continual upping of dosages, as I was left to flounder under the influence of the chemical cocktail this "Dr." recklessly prescribed me. When I tried to discuss the drugs that he prescribed (they were worsening my depression) Smartnick got an attitude, acted offended, refused to engage with me in an intelligent conversation and talked down to me like I was stupid. Smartnick deems himself a god who is privy to secret knowledge that the rest of us mere mortals could never understand, try as we might. I suppose he expected me to shut up, bow down and not question anything. He doesn't like women who try and educate themselves, as it offends his man-baby ego. Heaven forbid a woman should take in knowledge and try to discuss HER OWN Healthcare and gain an understanding of the drugs she's taking into HER body. I commited a mortal sin! Actually, I have EVERY RIGHT to discuss MY BODY and the drugs I am taking into MY BODY with the Dr. who is prescribing them and any good Dr. will tell you this. The best advice I can give to you is to do you due diligence and read ALL online reviews on this man. I also must caution you to be leery of any positive reviews on this guy, as they seem to be blatantly contrived. I wish I had read the reviews. I was just desperate to get treatment for my depression, and this guy was able to see me at a moments notice, which should have been a red flag. The very last time I saw this "Dr." he didn't even know which meds he had me on. He looked at his notes and started quoting someone else's meds! Or else he had my meds innacurately documented! Either way it's bad! It was at this moment I knew I had to leave and find another Dr. Thank God I found a wonderful new Dr. Oh, I almost forgot! After a quick Google search I found out that this guy has BEEN SUED TWICE, which speaks volumes to his character! I believe I was linked to the Summitt County Court. Look it up! I knew he was bad news! LADIES: AVOID this man like you would the black death. He is NOT going to provide you with good medical care; rather, he will take your money and treat you like a second class citizen. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: THIS MAN DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BEST MEDICAL INTERESTS AT HEART. UNDERSTAND THIS: HE IS ONLY INTERESTED IN TAKING YOUR MONEY AND HE WILL NOT HELP YOU. IN FACT, HE VERY WELL MIGHT HARM YOU. Seek help elsewhere where you will be treated with respect and dignity. You deserve this! We have to stop supporting men like this, especially in mental health care! And NO, Smartnick, "patient's expectations" are not "wrong."

My wife got stuck going to this Dr. No one else was available. He only saw her a few times. Visits lasted minutes. One visit he asked her what her issues were. When my wife tried to answer and said "My parents and how I think they.." He cut her off and finished her sentence for her nastily blurting out "because your parents don't love you?" She was actually going to say that she was worried about how her parents felt about her life decisions. Never once did she think her parents didn't love her until this monster put the idea into her head. There is no reason whatsoever that a Psychiatrist would tell a young suicidal woman that her parents don't love her other than to be intentionally cruel. Nothing productive whatsoever could ever come out of that statement. John M. in Seville is 100% correct; I suggest you read his review on Healthgrades. This Man has caused more harm than good. My wife was so traumatized by what he said to her that I haven't been able to get her seek help since. Protect your wives and protect your daughters.

This man treats ppl with mental illness as if they are dirt beneath his feet. He will not let you say much and doesn't really listen. In response to my telling him of my suicidal thoughts, he sarcastically replied that suicide is a "choice". Suicide is NOT a " choice" ( in the same way it would not be a choice for a person with OCD to wash their hands hundreds of times per day) and only an archaic, ignorant fool would state that it is one. He did not give me any direction whatsoever in regards to how to deal with my suicidal ideation. When I told him I fear I may take all my pills he literally said nothing! He is incompetent. I have since found a REAL psychiatrist who immediately provided me with resources and a strategy to deal with my suicidal thoughts. I have to echo the sentiments of other reviewers and say this was the worst experience with any Dr. In my entire life. I hope this guy rots. He is an unfit Dr. And should be tarred, feathered and run out of town. Please don't see him. It would most likely be to your detriment.

I never usually write reviews but feel people should know about Dr.Smartnick. He interrupted me constantly until I got to the point I quit talking because I was so uncomfortable. He was arrogant and told me how I felt, did not listen whatsoever. After a ten minute appointment he prescribed me a max dose of a drug that I later found out could be dangerous combined with other meds I'm taking. After telling another doctor what he said I found out the info he gave me was a contradiction to what the DSM says about my condition. I reported him to a patient advocate. This man should not be allowed to practice in the mental health field.

He was a real jerk he did not listen too me or try to understand me no compassion

Dr Smartnick spends no more than ten minutes with me in the appt and usually less than five. He will not let you speak and tells you what is wrong with you and how you feel. I have severe clinical depression and his medical advice was that I should just think happy thoughts. He didn't remember I had been hospitalized just two weeks before even though he had seen me there twice. His treatment is erratic and his "advice" is inconsistent.

This doctor will never return a phone call to you and will not listen to any problem you have. He is simply interested in managing your medications, which he does poorly if he doesn't listen to you long enough to know what the problem is.

I have been going to Dr. Smartnick for about 3 years and he has always been professional and understanding. He has been there for me throughout my most difficult times. He is very knowledgable in regards to medications and I trust him completely. He has never missed an appointment with me and always makes sure I have my meds. I would and have recommend him to my friends and family.

I read a lot of reviews of Dr. Smartnik online and almost all of them were extremely negative. I took that with a grain of salt, however, thinking that only the complainers go online to write reviews in the first place. When I actually met Dr. Smartnick he was rude, often interrupting me and speaking in a condescending tone of voice when I would try to describe my symptoms to him. I decided that it really didn't matter if the guy had a bad personality as long as he provided me with the service I needed. From that point on, however, Dr. Smartnik kept cancelling appointments with me so that I was constantly running out of my meds. Yesterday I drove all the way to Hudson, where the receptionist told me that he "just didn't show up to the office today." Apparently, he didn't even bother to call and cancel. The receptionist said that clients were coming in all day and getting angry that he wasn't there as scheduled (again). Dr. Smartnick missed 5 of the 8 appointments he had scheduled with me. So, when the receptionist offered to schedule another one, I declined. I didn't see any point in scheduling an appointment that he wasn't going to keep anyway.

This doctor is awful. He makes it very obvious that he has no interest in what the patient has to say nor does he do any type of assessment. I tried to discuss troublesome side effects with him but he didn't want to hear it and just told me to keep taking the medicine. I needed my prescriptions through mail order because of my insurance and could not get him to send the prescription.

I had been tested for ADHD by a woman in the very same office. She went over my results with him and I was supposed to follow up with him to get a prescription. On the day of my appointment he didn't remember ever speaking to her, and when I told him the medications she had recommended he said "I don't think that's indicated here," as he was hustling me out the door after my 30 second appointment.

This Doctor is only interested in the money. He shows no concern for the patient. Would not recommend this guy to anyone.

Talks mostly himself! Interrupts you while your talking! Refuses to give notes for work or school stating "your running away from your problem". Never remembers who you are or what he has done for you unless he looks at his notes! Does not give refills on Rx instead has you call when you need one and will only give one refill at a time. Basically does all the talking himself than gets up and opens his door when he is finished. Spends barely any time with you! Basically a useless doctor who doesn't seem to care!

My first impression of Dr. Smartnick was that he was very matter of fact and not overly compassionate. I guess that is why I have a therapist if I want compassion. I saw Dr. several times before I really saw the true side of him. I was admitted to the Partial Hospitalization Program at Akron General Hospital at my lowest point and he was so compassionate and caring to me. He sat and spent time with me and I am very happy that I go to him now, At first I felt he was putting me on too many meds but he told me to be patient that they would help me. He is correct. Therapy, medication, and my willingness plus Dr. Smartnick's care has me on the road to recovery within 2 months. I would recommend him but you need to give it time and work hard at recovery!

Diagnosis correct BUT I had to"interview" with his secretary before he "agreed" to take me on as a patient? would start my session in the hallway on walk back to his office - what about privacy laws? I don't mean just small talk, either. Doesn't appear to like having to see patients. I went elsewhere.

I have worked in healthcare for 20 years, and this poor excuse for a human being should not be within 5 feet of a patient. The fact that Akron General lets him take care of patients is appalling to me. I would not send my dog to this man.
