Dr. Barbara Widom, MD

I am a long-time Type 1 diabetic and have seen Dr. Widom for many years. I have found her to be extremely knowledgeable and she brings a tremendous amount of experience to bear on each situation. She does not always prescribe by the numbers or follow the herd, and some patients may have problems with the lack of certainty, but to me that is the reality of medical practice (there is a lot we don't know!). I have found her candor refreshing and helpful, as I can then make my own decision. I strongly believe she cares deeply about her patients, even though she can sometimes seem stressed or harried, but I think that is more a function of the medical system that she is embedded in (20.0 minutes per appointment) rather than who she really is. Doctors are not miracle workers, and diabetics in particular have to take care of themselves, and Dr. Widom may earn some negative evaluations because she does call it like it is. In my case I am extremely happy with her care.

Feisty. Opinionated. Minimizes and even denies the existence of side effects of levothyroxine. Refused to provide help or resolutions of side effects.

I saw Dr. Widom for years to get my hypothyroidism under control, and she always managed it well. I grew to like her, despite the fact that, as others have pointed out, her bedside manner is not the best. At the time, though, I was suffering from anxiety and high blood pressure, which she sent me to a GP for. Only with the help of a naturopath did I figure out that the issues were due to perimenopausal hormone changes. Menopausal stuff is not her main gig, but I kind of feel like, if I'm your patient, and you as an ENDOCRINOLOGIST don't even bring up hormones as a possible cause of my issues, who can, who will?

Came from out of State for wife’s thyroid condition. Dr. Widom was rushed and rude. We left the office basically angry for lack of answers. We are NOT going back! Terrible!

Horrible. I never felt she cared about me as a person. Defensive. I would never recommend anyone to her.

At first things went relatively well with Dr Widom. All of a sudden she stopped testing T3 and T4 levels stating "these tests are not helpful in this situation. The TSH is what tells us whether her thyroid dose is correct." My diagnois has not changed and the T3 and T4 have been very helpful in the past. What is going on!?

My mom is a patient, I'm the power of attorney, my mom is sick and these stupid doctors won't tell me anything... being her power of attorney they don't call me, they don't tell MD that my mom is sick... I'm tired of these people

I have seen Dr. Widom and she is great...The difficulty is it is almost impossible to to get an appointment within a timely manner..probably because there are so few endocronologists in Fort Collins area.

I have never seen a doctor with such a horrible bedside manner. She is very rushed and does not explain things well at all! I left her office frustrated and in tears. She puts words in your mouth and does not listen. Do not waste your time with her.. find another internal medicine doctor.

I found Dr. Widam to be confusing, poorly prepared and she rambled and made little sense. I was happy when she walked out, without saying anything and that was how the appt. ended. I was warned by my PCP that Dr. Widam had good and bad days and sometimes made no sense and she lived up to that reputation. Her limited knowledge, confusing manner, seemingly being lost and incoherent rambling should be enough to have her license revoked.

Worst appointment I have ever had. She is verry arrogant and rude. I have had issues with my thyroid for 2 1/2 years now, and none of the dr.'s I have seen can get it under control. I have also had problems losing weight due to my thyroid. When talking to he about a medication another Dr. put me on to help with weight loss, she told me she wouldnt renew the prescription cause I was not overweight enough. She then suggested I do gastric bypass when I am only 15lbs overweight. She asked if obesity ran in my family? When I told her only in the two members who also have hashimotos thyroiditis, She looked at my 11 yr old son who only weighs 91lbs, and said obviously it does run in the family. My poor son grabbed his belly and said ya i do need to loose this, he was so heart broken that this wretched poor excuse of a person had just called him fat. Needless to say she sent me on my way with nothing, just to call a week later and say I was correct my levels were out of wack again and up my dose and renew my script for weight pills. All after humiliating me and my poor son.

Dr Widom is not only extremely experienced in complex endocrine pathology management, she is highly trained in the clinic (and at the bench) in one of this country's leading institutions. Dr. Widom is up to speed on the latest developments in clinical endocrinology. Dr Widom somehow manages to treat, to support and to encourage over and over (and over) again the most resilient and discouraged of patients with lifelong endocrine challenges through her continued patience and unwavering enthusiasm and positivity on all clinical issues however great or small. I hope you too will make it to her practice and benefit from her care and her knowledge as I have!

This woman is awful. She told me about thirty times that I shouldn't have come to see her (even though I was referred by another doctor). It was obvious from the first second that she didn't want to deal with me and was just judging me based on appearance, not symptoms. I came to her because my throat is so swollen I'm having trouble breathing and my main doctor thought it was my thyroid gland. She doesn't care, and she didn't help me.

Being diabetic for 26 years now, I have seen tons of endocrinologists. Dr. Widom seems to be smart and up to date with the times as far as treatment goes. You will wait 20-30 minutes to be seen for about 5 minutes. She does seem to be kind of stuck in the past technology wise, wanting you to manually write down blood sugars in a log instead of using software to download it from the glucometer. If you hear of any new equipment or technology that is available for your diabetes, you better ask, because she will be too rushed to go through it with you. My biggest complaint is trying to get prescriptions sent to the correct pharmacy or written at all, even after multiple calls. Staff is super nice, but seems to be very unorganized with helping you get what you need. Not the kindest person, but thats not what I care about in a diabetes specialist anyways. So if you are looking for someone with a caring personality that's willing to sit down and explain things in detail and a staff that can help you, look somewhere else. If you want a straight forward Doc who seems to be reasonably smart, has some common sense, extremely thorough, and does not B.S. she is the one for you.

Dr. Widom's approach is not warm and cuddly. It is professional and directed toward your medical issues and the modalities to address the issues. If you want someone to enable your personality, peeves and eccentricities you should go elsewhere. If you want intelligent, well-directed care, you can trust her.

I have seen Dr Widom for over 5 yrs and appreciate her straight forward approach. No hand holding. She is up to date with current medical literature and medications;always has been onetime; and staff has been cordial. I was sent to her for her intellectual acumen and warned/cautioned about her personality. But I had no problem. She has handled my diabetes and thyroid problems with state of the art treatment. A recent change was made to my treatment because of brand new reports in the medical literature. I am extremely happy and pleased with her treatment and would not think of changing endocrinologists. Too bad others have not shared my experience.

After you seen her, you will know what a 'horrible doctor' means. She is arrogant and will humiliate you.

I cringe when I have to see her. 3 months to get appt. wait at least 20 minutes to be seen for approx 2 min. Wish there was someone else that works 5 days per week.

I'm only really disappointed because the staff doesn't care to get in touch with me during my treatment process. I feel like I have to call over and over again to finally get someone to call me back and tell me what my next step is. I think that if this office is too busy to call patients back with what I assume are sometimes vital treatment plans, they shouldn't be taking a 3 day weekend every week. I find it very unprofessional that I can't get anyone to call me back after leaving messages every day and then I'm stuck waiting through the 3 day weekend and possibly longer just so I can move forward with my disease. I would assume as a doctors office they would be concerned and as eager as I am to get me to a semi-normal and healthy point in my life.

Horrible first vist I will not be returning to this Doctor. She needs to improve on her bedside manner.
