He has a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, where he completed a residency in Psychiatry. He also holds an advanced certification from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington DC and understands that each person’s mental illness requires an individualized
approach.Dr. Johns’ Work in Ketamine Treatment and ResearchDr. Johns performed a landmark study with researchers at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System, which was the first trial to add ketamine to existing outpatient regimens.The astounding results of this study set the benchmark for ketamine infusions nationwide. Dr. Johns subsequently developed the region’s first ketamine infusion clinic at North Memorial Health and performed over 1,800 infusions and injections while directing the largest expansion of mental health services in the organization’s history.He also served as a consultant to Janssen Pharmaceuticals in the development of esketamine (Spravato), which was approved by the FDA for treatment-resistant depression in 2019.
