Dr. Charles Scot Reing, MD

Wrong lens implant, and a very poor follow up of presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) that can restore a full range of vision without eyeglasses. “I’ve done thousands of them” is what I bought into; at the cost of permanent eye damage and thousands of non-refundable dollars per eye. Wrong lenses were put in after a 5 plus hour wait on a hospital operating table. I now have to wear glasses fulltime for the rest of my life. At the cost of thousands of dollars.

Based upon Dr. Reing’s excellent referrals I expected good results from my cataract surgery. Yet my expectations were exceeded. I now have better distance vision then I have ever had in my life and I can read without glasses. In my consultations with Dr. Reing he was patient, thorough, and friendly. The surgery was less traumatic than I had feared and the follow up care was meticulous. I recommend his care without reservations.

I would definitely NOT recommend this office. I didn't even get in to see Dr. Charles Reing (so I cannot tell if he is good or bad). However; the office staff is horrible!!! It was the first time I was going to this office. It had been a recommendation. First, when making an appointment, they should tell you that you would be going into a hospital. My navigation took me to Wayne. I found myself at St. Joseph's Hospital. I called the office and advised that I was lost. The woman told me that I needed to go into the hospital through a hallway and their office was at the end. I went into the hospital. The woman at the desk told me that I had to go through 2 doors (one was key coded). I had to put the code in. I walked through the hallway--up and down the hallways and still couldn't find the office. I called again, the answering machine came in. I continued to search for it--it must have been 20 minutes. I called again and once again the answering maching came on. I finally decided to try to go upstairs (there were stairs). There was a board that listed all the offices and what suite they were in. I finally found it and was so irate. I started saying that you needed to give better directions when new patients are seen. She told me my appointment was at 3 and I would have to reschedule. I would never waste my time again! You shouldn't either.

There are two issues why I am writing this review. First, this doctor is not knowledgeable about my condition. Secondly, the last time I went to see him, he didn’t even listen to me, he answered his cel phone, and told the person to hold on. With the phone in his hand, he got up and told me to come back in a month... so disrespectful...

New to Randolph and didn't know where to go for my family's eye care needs. Came across this place when driving. Saw a banner on the road and called. The girl on the phone was nice, informative and offered many days and times for our family. First off the place is brand new. Beautiful. The staff was warm, helpful and very smart. The doctor was kind and spent some time explaining each of our eye issues. They have a nice looking optical with many choices. Working with them was the easiest thing since we've moved. Thank you!!

Had very bad catteracs and was seeing very cloudy in both eyes and had very bad stigmatism. Bottom line one eye at a time I got 20-20 now in both eyes and can read the bottom line on the eye chart. Never knew there was a bottom line on chart. I would whole heardily recommend Dr. Reinz. I can see a beautiful world again and very colorful.

Dr. Reing did my corneal transplant in 1998 and I thank God for him every night. I drive far (from Cartaret to Wayne) to see him. His surgical skills changed my life. After 15 years, no other doctor wanted to help me but Dr. Reing did. I had surgery within two weeks. Dr. Reing made me feel reassured that my chances were very good. My life is finally normal again.

Dr. Reing and his staff have taken excellent care of me; as a patient, I couldn't be more pleased and grateful.

This is the first time I have been to this office and my first eye exam. Dr. Reing was very knowledgeable and the staff was very friendly. Having the eyeglasses available to look at and order there was great! I would recommend them highly.

I have known Dr. Reing (& Dr. Choo) for many & have dozens of friends & family who go to his office. I know that a few of my own doctors go to him & the hospital staff recommends him highly. He is a talented surgeon. My problem is with his office. Some of the staff are really nice but I've had problems with others. Most recently, I waited nearly 2 months for an appt. My daughter goes to Dr. Choo & she doesn't have any evening appts. anymore so it makes it hard for me to get her there. There's a few women who work there who are not pleasant or accommodating on the phone & one who took nearly 15 minutes to make an appt. for me recently. I often times feel that the staff rushes me at night & that they don't really like giving patients the later appts. I called today & there were not going to be open any evenings this whole week. One day recently I called to make an appt. & was told that there was a 6 week wait. I called back later to make an appt. for my other child, with the same doctor & was offered a choice of appts. fairly quickly. I asked why my other child had to wait so long for an appt. & was told that it depends on who answers the phone. I won't order contact lenses there anymore because there's been problem after problem with my daughter's lenses over the last year or so. I've noticed that it's hard to get through to an actual person on the phone. I have had to leave messages with Billing, Contact Lenses & about medications. They board up the whole office & stop answering the phone at lunchtime too which cracks me up because there's a dozen people working there many who appear to have plenty of time to play on their phones. As the owner of my own business, I know that answering customer's calls is the lifeline of having a successful business. I once complained to the woman at the front desk & heard her telling the Office Manager about the problem & the O.M. said "what do you want me to do about it, these people are crazy" & was just making excuses as if I was to blame for the problem & not the office. I have my favorites in that office & ask for them by name & as long as they're helping me, everything is fine.

No issues with his skill, but I found him totally thoughtless & disengaged. Prescribed new glasses ($500 out-of-pocket) that were unusable because he neglected to tell me I would need cataract surgery before a new Rx would be effective. In fact, he initially made a point of telling me there was no hurry for the surgery. When I returned because I was having double vision & balance issues with the glasses, he casually stated that he thought this would happen and he would give me a new Rx after the surgery. Had no comment when I pointed out that he might have told me earlier so I wouldn't have spent money on glasses I couldn't use. An apology would have been nice at the very least. Consequently had the surgery & have to pay for a second new Rx. Insurance will cover only a portion of this cost post-surgery & I will not be able to pick up the glasses until I can save up the money for the balance. I am out $500 and still have no usable glasses. Not happy.

This was my first time in this office and I was impressed by how friendly everyone was. Dr. Reing explained my eye condition and I felt very comfortable with his experience. I will be bring my husband and daughter for their eye exams in a few weeks.

Performs surgery not in his specialty

I wanted the very best to do lasik surgery and I found the best. I ended up finding out I had cateracts . I had dr Charles Reing do the surgery and I feel he is the very best. anyone needing either one ,I would suggest having him do it.

In reading the reviews, I completely disagree with AOV. While I did have to stop at the optician to pick up my prescription, there was zero pressure. He was nice and I wound up finding out that their prices were actually better than the highway place that I usually go to.

I bring my kids & parents here. I find Dr. Reing to be highly competent & well respected by his peers. I'm just disappointed in some of his staff. There are a couple standouts but I've had some issues. I used to go at the end of the day but felt rushed esp. as I watched staff run past me to leave as I paid my co payment. One of the dr's assistants was telling me that it had been a long day & she needed to leave to do something with her kid. I didn't feel welcome. I stopped ordering my kids' contacts here because I recently ran into a few problems. It's not worth the hassle anymore. I still think Dr. Reing is a great doctor & I am so grateful that my son's emergency was accommodated two months ago. It turned out to be nothing but we were so happy that it wasn't as serious as we thought it could be. I hope that the owner or manager restores the office to how it used to be. I don't feel that my business is appreciated these days.

I have been a patient of Dr.Reing for more years than I would like to admit, I am now 71 yrs old, figure it out. The staff is friendly and polite, I am greeted like a good friend, not just a patient. I would not trust anyone to touch my eyes but him. Before I had Lasiks surgery in 1999 I went for yearly check ups, been fitted for contact lensesI and treated for minor eye infections. The lasiks surgery was a major life changer,never had a problem since.No more contacts no more glasses. I would not trust anyone but Dr. Reing with my eyes and now sending my husband to him for cataract surgery, so he can see that I am still pretty.

Dr Reing takes the time to figure out your whole story. I have been a patient of his for many years and I have the utmost confidence in his skills. His office is quite professional and attentive. Highly recommended.

Dr. Reing impressed me with his confidence & surgical experience however the rest of my experience was not as pleasant. I called the office & though my schedule was flexible, I was given an appt. nearly a mth. later. I saw Dr. Choo who was very friendly but she doesn't do cataract surgery so I was told to come back & see Dr. Reing. I had to wait a short time to get an appt. with him & then when he saw me, he told me to come back for measurements for the lenses that were to be implanted. I then had to wait a few weeks to get an appt. with the surgery person who was there the day of my appt. with Dr. Reing. The surgery went well & I'm happy with the results but I would have liked less visits & waiting between visits. I am still working so the # of visits seemed excessive to me & I had to take off work for 2 of the appts. Also, some of the staff seemed disinterested & more interested in playing on their cell phones then taking care of patients. I could hear two people complaining about one of the patients.
