Dr. David Kim, MD

At first appointment, Dr. Kim demonstrated full preparation via historical information obtained in evolution of care process to that point. He was ready with specific plan and provided peripheral support. He had great insight into concerns that arose. Dr. Kim and his MA Jasmine were professional, highly communicative and accommodating in providing answers to questions and proactive information for procedure. The actual procedure was seamless thanks to information and preparation provided, as well as skill of team.

Dr Kim was helpful and he explained things I had not heard before. He was ready to give the cortisone shot. It was almost painless going in. One day later the pain has subsided considerably. I can an do recommend Dr Kim.

Dr. Kim is very nice and knowledgeable. He didn’t rush me and answered all of my questions. He was very informative and told me what my next steps would be.

Dr Kim it's very professional. Listen to you and I had three time injection with him with all good experience. Sadly it did not work but that is my nerve and back issue .but he is great I highly recommend him always. Also Dr patader The surgeon is really great

His staff personnel are equally professional and supportive during procedures. Dr. Kim gives me the confidence I need to make sometimes difficult decisions about next steps and provides clear language information.

Dr. Kim is an excellent doctor. He listens carefully to pain ailments and where they are located to consider the best method for treatment. Appointments are on time….a rarity these days.

I had seen several doctors and had gotten several x-rays, but Dr. David Kim was the only person who identified the real problem with my spine.

Dr. Kim and his Physical Therapy Staff are excellent.

Pros: he is very easy going, caring, listens well, great with injections and cares about the cost of medications for his patients.Cons:he is difficult to get an appt with. He needs to hire a PA to help his patient load.

As a long time patient of him for the past 7 years, I have to disagree with the previous comments submitted by another patient. Previous to meeting him, I had rounds and rounds of injections and all sorts of medications by numerous "pain specialists" all over the Northern Virginia. Others pushed for medications recommended by drug reps without really knowing the side effects and costs. He started me with the cheapest medications proven to work instead of signing megadose oxycontin, soma, and percocet prescriptions and out the door like most of the drive through pain clinics. He even tries to wean down on some of the medications to see if they are still effective. Today, I am taking about 60% less of pain pills than when I started seeing him and my liver and kidney surely appreciates that.A word of caution: He is not the one for you if you are a drug seeker as he does not believe in Megadose narcotics!

As a long time patient of him, I have learned a lot about his style. First of all if you want a doc that you can call and expect a phone call back FORGET IT! If you call him with questions you will get to go back and forth with his nurse asking him and then calling you back(on a side note his nurse is the BEST). Another thing is he is not your typical pain doc, he is an internist, and he forgets that he is in the business of treating pain no dXing it. Not something good if you don't have a condition that is cut and dry. On the same hand if you are still on the hunt for a dX, he will be glad to help almost to the point of being a pain( but with this he might not agree with the dX you might eventually get) Another thing is he is not very aggressive in treatment either, but will work and listen to what works for you with in limits.

He doesn't just stick needles and write prescriptions like a typical pain doc.He fully evaluates you and recommends comprehensive approach, including depression screening, physiotherapy, a common sense medication (he doesn't believe in more the better medicine mentality), frequent re-evaluation, medical acupuncture (although he recommends you to find one outside if your insurance doesn't cover due to his concerns for your out-of-pocket expense).I have been going to him for the past 6 years and only complaint I have is that his assistant of 6 years had to leave on medical leave and since then it has been hard to communicate to him via messaging system when you have questions between the appointment time.

Unlike other pain docs I have been to where they force you to have 3 sessions of injections upfront, he will only schedule one and re-evaluate. He does acupuncture as well as other non-surgical options. Will also talk to you regarding why he doesn't believe in the term "fibromyalgia" and prefers the term "tension myositis syndrome". The waiting time to get into his clinic is too long. If you are just interested in taking narcotics, he will not be the right one for you because he does not believe in excessive dose of narcotics medications.
