Dr. David Philip Sokolow, MD

I had 2 major knee surgeries this year, and Dr Sokolow and his staff were the absolute best people to work with. Thorough, incredibly kind, and always keeping the patient’s best interest in mind. He and his entire staff are positively wonderful.

This doctor has always been there for me and my family.he has put the pieces of me back together so many times always explained what he was going to do before and after .ihad a hospital tell me they had to amputate my ankle because there was nothing left to attach to .i had them call doctor sokolow and he had me come back to Fredericksburg va.he did the surgery and attached the ankle and nearly 10 years later it still works with no problem whatsoever now hes left Fredericksburg.va and his patient's has lost a great one of a kind surgeon.whos the bright one that let that happen where ever you are dr david sokolow you will never be forgotten but always missed by your patients.!!!!!!!

A year ago my mom was in a severe car accident. She fractured both collar bones, her arm, her rib cage, and shattered both ankles. We were all concerned about her ability to be able to walk again. Dr. Sokolow surgically repaired her collar bones and arm with steel plates, but his restoration of her ankles was an inivative masterpiece. He consulted with other doctors to perform a "first of it's kind" surgery on my mother's ankle. During her rehabilitation, his care and compassion through her recovery was exemplary. He is the epitome of a great physician, whom all should aspire. This gentleman no only gave my mom the ability to walk again, but he gave her a drive to be a walking miracle. A testimony of his ingenius surgical skills. We want to thank Dr. Sokolow for all he's done for my mother, Gertrude Dickerson, and what he continues to do in his profession. I have had much success with "lubricating" shots (not cortisone) in my right knee; when these were first started I was told that I would be having knee replacement surgery VERY VERY surely in my future. Dr. S was willing to let me continue to receive the shots, even tho' other orthopedists would not have. The shots were necessary 2x a year at first, , and have now dwindled to only being needed in well OVER a year's time.. This caring man listened and went against some medical " current" and I still have my own, functioning right knee...........

Dr. Sokolow is the kind of doctor everyone should have. During the appointment he listens and asks pertinent questions so that he can make a skilled diagnosis. He has never rushed me if I have a lot of questions and has responded with compassion and confidence. He has taken care of many members of my family as well as my friends. They all have spoken highly of him and have trusted his skills without question.

Dr. Sokolow has been my orthopedist for over 17 years and I was very fortunate he was on call the day I was in a horrific auto accident in 2002. I fractured my tibia, fibula, patella and ankle and required surgery. After my first surgery and I was in therapy, plus using a CPM machine for 12+ hours per day, I reached a point where I couldn't bend my knee. Dr. Sokolow quickly diagnosed the problem, recommended surgery; which he performed, to enable my knee to bend resulting in total success. A couple years later I started experiencing pain in my ankle and Dr. Sokolow performed surgery to remove some hardware. I have not had any pain or problems with my leg since my final surgery for which I attribute to his skilled surgical hands, his expertise and medical knowledge in knowing exactly what needed to be done, how to do it and when surgery was required. Dr. Sokolow has always gone over every X-ray, CT scan and MRI with me, explained the findings, recommended treatment and/or surgery, relaying everything in absolute detail which put my mind at complete ease. His bedside manner, compassion and true dedication to his patients and profession are unremarkable. He takes his profession very serious, wants and expects only the best outcome for his patients and genuinely cares when his patients are in pain. He is highly ethical and takes his oath to first do no harm very earnestly. A true credit to the orthopedic profession and, it saddens me to learn that he is leaving our area to practice elsewhere as he will be sorely missed and if not, impossible to replace. Whoever is lucky enough to get him on their staff will quickly learn that Dr. Sokolow is very talented, highly skilled and an expert orthopedist and surgeon; they will wonder how they ever managed without him!

Thanks for the tremendous work on my broken wrist! The surgery was a complete success and because of that I have been able to function like normal! UPS is a tough and demanding job and thanks to you and your surgical work I have returned with absolutely no complications! Thanks again Dr. Sokolow!

I had a femur fracture that did not result from a fall. Dr Sokolow inquired prior to surgery if I had cancer as he was suspicious of the type of break. I had had cancer in my parotid gland two years prior that was caught in early stage and had radiation therapy following its removal. He stated that it would be unusual for that type of cancer to metasize to the femur but he thought he should take a biopsy of that area during the repair of the fracture just to be sure. I’m very grateful he did follow his instinct as the cancer had spread. My recovery from the fracture and rehabilitation has gone well and am now continuing care for the reoccurrence of cancer. I’m grateful for his knowledge and expertise.

After a fall off of a step ended up a with a non-displaced fracture of my distal fibula. The hospital emergency room sent me to see Dr. Sokolow. He was wonderful, taking time to review my xray with me, thoroughly explained my plan of care and reviewed my outcome and did it with care and compassion. I would HIGHLY recommend him!

After an injury that caused my pec major muscle to tear away from the bone I contacted Fredericksburg Orthopedic being a former patient of their practice. I explained the situation and they recommend I see Dr. Sokolow and I am sure glad they did!!! This was a matter that needed immediate surgey to be successful. It is also one that is very uncommon and not seen by many doctors. Thankfully Dr. Sokolow has past experience with this exact surgery and made me feel comfortable that he could do the procedure. He assured my wife and I if he didn’t think he could do this procedure and do it well that he would recommend another surgeon. His honesty was priceless. Post surgery he explained to my wife with enthusiasm how perfect the surgery went. He called my home the day after surgery personally and told my wife not to hesitate to call if I needed anything. His surgical staff also called in the days to follow to make sure recovery was going well. His assistant was also very helpful in regards to returning phone calls and helping with the necessary paperwork I needed submitted for my injury claim. All in all a wonderful experience!!! I am cofindent because of his skills that I will return to my normal activities once I am completely healed. Dr. Sokolow takes pride in his work and it shows!!!

Dr. Sokolow is one of the funniest and kindest surgeons I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He performed a surgery on my ankle a few years back after a terrible break. I followed up after my ankle started swelling again. He remembered me, the surgery, and everything. He took out some of the hardware that was irritating my ankle. Once he saw that the swelling was continuing, he sent me to another doctor just to get a second opinion as opposed to saying I would just have to live with the inflammation and pain. Sure enough, he and the other doctor figured out the problem together. I am so glad the on-call physician at the emergency room recommended Dr. Sokolow. Clearly, I do, too.

About two years ago, I had a trimalleolar fracture in my left ankle. The physician in the emergency room recommended I see Dr. Sokolow. He said, "If you were my wife or daughter, I would want you to see him." My fracture occurred on the Sunday of Memorial Day. Dr. Sokolow saw me on Wednesday and scheduled my surgery for Thursday. He was kind and walked me through what would happen during the procedure. He called to check on me the evening after surgery and the next day. I was under his care for approximately three months while I went through physical therapy and so forth. He kept me informed of what would happen the entire time as this was my first broken bone at the age of 40. Two years later, the hardware in my ankle had started to move, as can happen with ankles once they begin to heal and so forth. I was having a lot of pain and swelling. I went back to Dr. Sokolow who remembered me and my case. After an x-ray, he discovered that some of the plates and screws needed to come out, so he scheduled another surgery for me. Once again, he was kind and professional. My ankle has improved tremendously, and while I will always have some residual swelling due to the previous fractures, the swelling and pain have decreased exponentially. I have recommended Dr. Sokolow to my friends and colleagues who have needed a doctor/ surgeon for fractures and bone issues. Again, he is one of the kindest, smartest, and most sincere physicians I have had the pleasure of meeting. I absolutely recommend him should you ever need someone in his field.

I had a 1530 appointment with Dr. Sokolow. I left work at 1300 to ensure I would arrive on time because I was anticipating results of my nerve test. I arrived at the office at 1500 and checked in. After waiting 30 minutes and watching all the patients who arrived after me get called to the examining room, I return to the check in desk to inquire about my appointment. I was told that my appointment was at 1540 and everyone else’s appointment was before mine. That’s reasonable but it would be nice if I was informed that I had to wait until my appointment time. As a simple courtesy that could have been explained when I checked in. I would have occupied my time instead of remaining in the waiting room. At 1545, I was finally called to the examining room by an assistant. As we walked to the examining room, assistant stated the reason I was there, showed me to the room and then slammed the door behind her leaving me to sit in the room. Similar to locking a dog in a room to prevent it from getting out. At approximately 1630 I had enough waiting and wanted to learn the status of my appointment. The assistant informed me that Dr. Sokolow was in with another patient and had one waiting before I can be seen. When I bought it to her attention that I been here since 1500 she stated, “The doctor is running late and we take patients at their appointments and there is nothing we can do about the doctor running late.” From the time I checked in, nobody and informed me that the physician was running late. As I sat in the waiting room, watching the waiting room emptied, nobody informed me about the wait. When I was thrown in the room by the assistant, she didn’t inform me that the physician was running late. It wasn’t until I inquired about the status of my appointment after waiting for over an hour, I was informed the physician is running behind. Your staff needs a lesson on common courtesy, communication, and customer service. First lesson should begin with the assistant who is brusque and boorish. It’s unfortunate, that specialized care has to be met with substandard service. The doctor should not be blame or used as an excuse for your staff’s discourteous and inconsiderate service.

Dr. Sokolow is a great practitioner with excellent medical knowledge that made me at ease during injections of my shoulder and right knee. Dr. Sokolow listen to me about my concerns prior chosen treatment plan.

This is an orthopedic surgeon that works very hard to treat you in the office rather than in the operating room. When he has performed surgery on me, I have been very pleased with the outcome. He has been treating my knees for about 20 yrs. He has turned my back and arms over to colleagues. He is a very smart, not cut first surgeon..
