Dr. Eric Neil Steinberg, MD

My wife went to Laporte hospital after her primary care doctor advised her to do. Her urine had become a dark yellow and some yellowing in her eyes. In the ER we were told devastating news she had pancreatic and live cancer. She was admitted and under the care of the staff doctor. The next day the doctor advised us that she needs to have an ERCP performed. Never giving us any alternative procedures. The next day in the morning we are told a Dr. Steinburg will be performing the ERCP. We expected it to happen right away but found out he had office hours and they ended at 2PM. He comes in and expelling what he was going to do. If possible, install a stent in her liver bile duct and get a sample of the cancer to biopsy. You would have thought he should have been doing this procedure in the morning when he was not tired. They take my wife down and she goes in for the procedure. After about an hour the doctor came out and I could see he was nervous. He then explains he had made an error or mistake and perforated her duodenum but he placed some clamps to close the hole. Then proceeds to say she needs to be sent to a hospital that can handle this as they cannot. The next morning, she is sent by helicopter to IU Methodist hospital in Indianapolis when the next morning the do emergency surgery. After the surgery was some improvement but then due to the pain that steadily increased. No food no liquids on TPN the doctors there said that total healing would take anywhere from 2 months or more. She was now bedridden, could not walk and had cancer next to fight which she could not. 24 days later she passed away. Not from the Cancer but the pain and complications of the ERCP. You would think he would reach out to give his condolences but not a word. Tells you where his heart and companion really are. My wife would have died from the cancer in the future yes, but his mistake and error shortened her life, and she could have had more time to be at the home she loved. Not in some hospital bed in Indianapolis slowly dying. Wish there is a way to give negative stars.

He is personable and likable; however, I don't go to doctors because I like them, I go to get issues resolved. I saw him for 6 months. Test after test after test. He could never find anything wrong. Finally, I call BCBS and asked spoke to a nurse there who gave me the name of another doctor. After 2nd visit, my issue was diagnosed and after a month everything is much better. His whole set up, from all the paper work, poor office communications, ineptitude in scheduling are affronts to efficiency. He drowns patients in red-tape and paper. Now that I have my issue under control by another Doctor, I see what a jerk this guy is...beware.

This dr did an endoscopy, and after that prescribed medicine for cronic acid reflux and told me that my esophagus was a little irritated, He spent with me like 8 min, and seem to be tired . other than than he said I had to follow up with him in a year. Next year I went and all the sudden he told me that I needed another endoscopy, and at that time I wasn't presenting any of the symptoms from before I was feeling good and just wanted to follow up like he said. And he says well I need toto and endoscopy since you have a precancerous condition called Barrett esophagus ... I was in extremes shock, and started to cry , I was at that time 27 years old, I was devastated and shock that he never mention that diagnosis the year before after that endoscopy. I guess he forgot, and he didnt shown any sympathy towards me , he was. Cold As an ice and left the office, I would never recommend this to tour to anyone , because he is not. Professional and never told me what I really had . And I had all the right to know since the beginning.

If you are going for an Endoscopy, look forward to having a chipped tooth.

The office staff is okay but not the best attitudes at times. This doctor is very rude at the office visits but very overly nice at the facility while conducting procedures (maybe because he is surrounded by other medical professionals). It is very unprofessional to me for a doctor to talk to you about their other patients and their diagnosis and you don't know how much longer they will be alive. I paid a copay to see the doctor about what's going on with me not anyone else.

Been going to the DR for about two years; through the process, the DR requested an Endoscopy, Upper GI & testing for Celiac Disease. When the procedure was done, called and gave brief details about findings/results and then asked me to come in to the office. When I went in for the office visit, didn't give me any futher details. Doesn't really share much info on the phone; requires you to come in for everything so he can charge you for it. Charges by the way are not accepted in anything other than cash or check. He does not accept credit cards. For every procedure, you have to have a pre procedure and post procedure visit. If you want a refill, another visit. To top all of it off, he does not handle billing at all; outsources to another Company but he does instruct them to charge off balances and does not send the bill to you at all. Staff is pleasant with the exception on one person who is rude. Apparently, she hasn't figured out that customers should get treatment on their priorities and shouldn't be asked to call later because she is too lazy to take a message or she is at lunch. All in all, would strongly recommend you take your services elsewhere as this DR basically does not care about you ; only wants your money and that as well in cash or check.

I've been using Dr. Steinberg for over 10 years for various gastro issues and have always found him to be talented, professional, and courteous. Recommend him highly.

Couldn't ask for a better DR experience. Staff was nice. Office clean. Doc nice, sincere, not rushed, asked questions, let me ask questions. I felt well informed in the end. Happy with my experiences so far.

Please be aware the Dr Steinberg requries an office visit prior to scheduling a preventive colonoscopy. Under the new preventive care guidelines and my insurance company this office visit is not covered by insurance. So you can expect to pay for the office visit out of pocket. Also Dr Steinberg does not accept credit cards, so you will not be able to use your Health Savings account credit card to pay for these additional services. Therefore the cost is up to 30% higher if you do not jump thru the hoops to get reimbursed by your HSA.

I saw Dr. Steinberg several years ago - before so many reviews were available online. I am surprised by all of the negative reviews online because I really liked him. He was professional and seemed very knowledgeable. Personally, I appreciated his sense of humor. It really helped me relax and feel comfortable with him, especially since he has to examine some very private parts of your body and discuss things that most people are not usually comfortable with. I am going back to see him to follow- up soon.

He is very caring. He listens. He works with you and always make you feel like there is hope (comforting). He's the best

Dr. Steinberg always calls me personally with test results. Most Doctors have their assistant call.

Dr. Steinberg is very professional and takes a keen interest in your well-being. What he does not do, is hold your hand and give you sympathy when you are not doing what you should be to take care of yourself. (He treats you as an adult, not as a child.)

I started seeing Dr. Steinberg on the recommendation of a friend. After months of seeing other GI doctors without relief, Dr. Steinberg correctly diagnosed my problem and treated it within a matter of weeks. My friend and I call him "House" because he will figure out what is wrong with you when no one else can :-)

Terrible ! Terrible ! Terrible ! Not remotely competent. After your money. Cash pay in advance - No credit cards - That about says it all. Very late, not apologetic. Incompetent staff. Rude physician. Orders way too many labs and repeats everything every visit - wastes medical resources and tries to talk you into procedures other docs say you don't need. He is after you money and of questionable ethics. I would not send my worst enemy to him.

Overall, very efficient and professional. Enjoyed his sense of humor and appreciated the personal phone call with updates. Respect his skill as a medical specialist.

Beyond rude. Laughed about cancer diagnosis.

Run from this Man! I am appaled at how Dr. Steinberg treats his patients. He joked and made fun of my concerns. He announced my EGD results infront of other patients in the recovery room, and would not answer any of my questions. It was like I was bothering him, like he had better things to do. He left a message on my voice mail telling me I had abnormal test results, and needed blood work. When I called back to ask about this blood work he said, "What's wrong with you?" "I just said you needed blood work." "It's nothing to freak out about." Awful Awful bedside manner.

I couldn't disagree more with the other negative comments. Dr. Steinberg has always been very professional and very caring anytime that I have seen him. Twice I have met with him just to consult and he gave me all of the time that I needed for him to answer my questions.

Doctor Steinberg is ok, not great, but ok. The administration in his office is awful. They made numerous mistakes costing me money with my insurance company. When I raised this problem Doctor Steinberg backed his administration and made me eat the cost they caused me. I left.
