Excellent methodological diagnostic approach

This doctor is not qualified. The surgery to fuse my big toe went well. While healing scare tissue got tangled into nerves in my foot. This caused pain burning and tingling in my foot. I went back several times to have him look at toe. Each time he would X-ray my foot and tell me nothing was wrong. I went to another doctor who explained I was suffering from a Nuroma. No X-ray was required. How a doctor with thirty years experience could not diagnose it is sad. Had it been diagnosed early it would’ve prevented a long and painful period. My foot now requires another surgery to clean up the tumor caused by the nuroma. Find another doctor!!

He took the time to explain the multiple issues I am having. He did not rush me at all. He made sure I understood everything (not an easy task). Couldn't have asked for anything more. Wonderful experience.

I now have had surgery performed by Dr. Kartalian and several follow up visits. He is a very good surgeon. My toe was completely shattered. It's a long recovery but and his assistant Tori are amazing, caring and professional. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Kartalian to anyone in my family or my friends. He spends time with you and makes sure you understand what he is telling you. He has the x-rays up and shows you clearly how bad things were and how things are progressing. Great experience. I am still under his care.

I had an emergency and the staff bent over backwards to get me in to see the Dr. He had surgery but came in early to see me before his surgery. My appointment was at 9 AM and he saw me at 9 AM. I didn't have my disc with x-rays and no one gave me a bad time about it. They just accommodated me w/o fuss. Dr. Kartilian was professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. He explained everything to me thoroughly and answered my questions patiently. Surgery is Monday. Feeling confident.

Unprofessional and full of excuses. Everything is a stress fracture. Scoped my knee only to tell me my knee would only last two years and then a month later that I needed a knee replacement now!

I just saw Dr Kartalian for knee pain and surgery and found him to be completely friendly, thoughtful, and professional. He explained my situation thoroughly and patiently answered all my questions. I never felt rushed, nor pressured into any one treatment. Instead, he helped me make the decision that was best for me. The surgery went very well, with no complications at all. Now, a few days after the surgery, I've got zero pain unless I try to do too much and even then it's very slight. I fully expect to be back to hiking and martial arts in a month or two. I also found everyone on the office staff to be friendly and professional. I've already recommended Dr. Kartalian to several of my friends and would definitely seek him out if I had orthopedic problems in the future. I also highly recommend the Reston Surgical Center, where I had the surgery. I feel very lucky to have had such a top-notch surgeon and medical team. Thank you!

I've been an athletic trainer on the HS, College and Pro level. I've worked with many Ortho Dr's in the past. When I destroyed my ankle.....Dr. Kartalina was the Dr. for me. I knew and trusted his knowledge and "hands" to do the job. In 5 - 6 weeks I was back to working out.....GREAT JOB DR. K !!!

Dr. Kartalian did a nice job on my knee scope surgery. However, I had to wait over an hour the first time I visited, and they had no record of another appointment. Finally, when I was waiting another 45 mins. for a follow-up visit (without explanation, excuse, or apology), I just left -- and there was no interest on the doctor's part or his office to find out if I had recovered from the surgery. Being a good surgeon does not negate giving the impression of not caring for one's patients.

Not only was he rude and condescending but he was incompetent. I saw him several years ago about an ankle problem and his only solution was to get tell me that I should be in a brace for the rest of my life. He did not want to hear what I had to say and offered no other solutions. I found an excellent foot and ankle specialist at Georgetown foot and ankle center. They were able to move a tendon and allow me to walk brace free.He is an incompetent jerk.

my daughter had a severely broken big toe and we went to see Dr. Kartalian several times to see if it need resetting or surgery. His diagnosis was clear and professional. We felt very comfortable with his recommendations. We will definitely use him again if needed and have recommended him to others.

New to foot surgery, I spent a great deal of time researching and vetting the foot specialists that would be working with my wife's years long battles with plantar faciitis, fibroma and nerve damage. (Physical therapy, cortisone shots, inserts, shoes, clogs, boots and more boots.) Dr. Kartalian was our THIRD opinion and we were not excited about the "85%-success-rate" surgery option, with 3 month recovery period, etc.Dr. Kartalian spelled out precisely what was to happen and what to expect. His staff was particularly attentive, ensuring the expectations and objectives would be mutually understood. There was no 'sugar coating'-this guy meant business.Thankfully, this is his business and he is VERY good at it. Thank you, Dr.Kartalian, for the great job on the two surgeries and the fantastic support from your staff. My wife followed your instructions and has been recovering nicely. After one week, we thought the stitches would come out, but your recommendation to keep them in for another few days paid off. After the third week, she was out of the boot, and back to walking (with me) , pressing to go our full daily route: 2.5 miles. After 6 weeks, to the day, after surgery, I am happy to say that we are "back in the groove!"Thanks to Dr. Kartalian, who gets the job done.

I hadn't seen Dr. Kartalian in a few years and was surprised to see some of the negative comments. I saw him today and still like him. He is not knife happy, listened to what I had to say, made a number of suggestions to try to help my problem and then to follow-up with him in a few weeks.

During the last 2 years, Dr Kartalian operated on my husband's knees and I recently saw him for a knee problem. I couldn't ask for a more professional and excellent doctor! After my husband's surgeries, he came and talked to me personally about his status. I would recommend him to anyone. - L

Not nice at all, wrong diagnosis and horribly late. Bad experience all around. I wish I would have seen these reviews when I had booked him. I arrived an hour early, and was seen an hour and a half late. REALLY? He told me I had a stress fracture, put me in a boot, sent me to PT and told me to come back in 3 months. When I had my follow up, he said come back in 3 months if it doesn't feel better. How long do I need to "wait and see" and hope it goes away for? If he couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, he should have sent me to a specialist instead of just hoping it goes away. He also told me he uses the term stress fracture loosely-- if someone has pain in their foot, he considers it a stress fracture. Quality medical diagnosis there, folks! It is almost two years later and I have had it-- went to a specialist today and she knew right away what the issue was. Don't waste your time with him. He is very condescending and doesn't care what you have to say. I for sure will not waste another penny on his practice.

Dr K has been fantastic with my husband's broken foot! The original doc just waved him off and told him he would get what he gets after the surgery. Dr K understands that his foot is his livelihood and is doing a full investigation on why he is still having pain and trouble walking. His manner has been completely wonderful.He is extremely knowledgeable and has had a full answer for every question we have had. We love him.

I saw Dr. Kartalian in connection with a broken distal fibula (ankle bone) and found him very knowledgeable, helpful & responsive. He was not rushed in our consultations & explained things thoroughly. As an ankle-foot specialist, he had the exact expertise needed for my problem. He's old enough to have a lot of experience, not so old as to be dated in his thinking. His PA assistant, Jeff Henefeld, is terrific and was available for those inevitable follow-up issues or questions which you wished you had asked the doctor.

I WAS IN DR KARTALIAN ONE HOUR AND 20 MINUTES. I FIRST HAD HIS ASSISTANT GO OVER MY INJURY AND I THEN HAD AN XRAY. BY THEN I HAD BEEN THERE AN HOUR AND 45 MINUTES. WHEN DR KARTALINAN APPEARED HE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS...JUST HELD UP HIS HAND AND SAID NO QUESTIONS. ANOTHER ASSISTANT FITTED ME WITH A BOOT. ONE MONTH LATER AT MY FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT HE ONLY ASK ME THE QUESTIONS HE HAD THE ANSWERS TO WHEN HIS ASSISTANT ASKED ME. NEVER EXAMINED MY FOOT. LEFT ME SAYING "WHEN IT HURTS BAD ENOUGH SOME DAY YOU WILL CALL ME AND SAY YOU WANT SURGERY. NOT BY HIM THANK YOU.

After reading the last posts I had to post mine. This Doctor may be a little behind on appointments because he DOES spend so much time on the prior client. He may run behind like all other doctors but he does care and he does show it. He is patient in listening to my concerns and he takes care of my needs. He also shows great respect to the staff around him. Maybe these people caught him on a bad day, but dealing with him for years, this whole office is full of good people willing to help.
