This guy was a god send! The county hospital really stepped up their game with this doctor. As anyone with back pain will tell you, you feel like your life’s over when you have it. I gave up hope. I was 54 and with non-stop lower back pain. My medications could not get me to a good place, injections and physical therapy didn’t work. I had good doctors that did their best but it just wasn’t working for me. I met Dr. Thai (short for his last name) because my uncle recommended him. He was quick and to the point, I think my clinic visit was about 5 or 10 mins. He kept my dialogue focused to the issue at hand while some people may find this annoying, it gave me some confidence he knew what he was doing. He told me the issue he saw on the MRI and why I needed a fusion. The surgery went well though it took almost 2 months to find an opening to get scheduled. he did it through 4 half inch nicks in my skin and I left the next day from the hospital. I am dramatically better. It’s hard to think about what my life could have been like. He’s the real deal. Hope this blurb helps the next guy in pain get some help.

He makes his patient pay upfront then the patient has to get reimbursed by the insurance company. Poor service and the doctor is more interested in $$$ than the patient! Just bad service!

please make sure you do your research very well and get opinions of more than one Dr. Complications can arise from any surgery. His surgery caused a CSF leak that caused a lengthy stay at the hospital. and another surgery to repair. That was not the only complication but also ended up having an infection in surgery site. Mike and Monica you are a blessing to this doctor.

Dr. Ty saved my life at a time where I was just about wheel chair bound! If you want a doctor with a superior bed-side manner, kind and sensitive attention to patient treatment, care, and recovery, then you want Dr. Ty. Two other doctors (at Kaiser Permanente by the way) had previously diagnosed me and said that they could complete my surgery but it would take approximately 5 1/2 hours, I could bleed out on the table, I could be paralyzed for life, they were going to cut through my spine, I could have complications, the surgery room appointment could not even be scheduled for 2 -3 months and my recovery would be difficult and long. Dr. Ty, looked at the same exact MRI that I gave them and within minutes told me that he could do my surgery in 30 minutes, I would not lose any more blood than if I had a paper cut, he would not cut through my spine, and I could go home that same day. He did EXACTLY as he said he could with the exception of only one thing - the surgery didn't take 30 minutes... it took 25 minutes! He has performed 1000's of these procedures and is completely worth a consultation if you are looking for help from your excruciating back pain. He is now in private practice and you can find him under 'Brain & Spine Institute' in Orange County California. You can also just google his nick name which is Dr. Ty and you will find him as well. I personally know two other patients that he did surgery on and their results were just as fantastic as mine. I am telling you, this doctor is the real deal and I am indebted to him for life!

What a fantastic doctor and staffs!! Many people have to understand that specialists are very busy, but the fact that Dr. Ty was willing to see me on off day was amazing. I was very thankful for Dr. Ty to take my needs seriously, unlike many specialists I have seen. I was scheduled to come in to review my MRI and up next was my surgery. I am very satisfied with how quickly his surgery scheduler got my surgery authorized and how quickly she got me scheduled the procedure. From experience, the entire office is amazing and they work really hard. I've seen one or two people on their cell phones for personal reasons (because I understand Spanish), but aside from that, everyone is great. The medical assistant is always so kind and caring. The surgery scheduling has one of the best customer services I have ever had and she has the sweetest voice. I highly recommend anyone who needs a neurosurgeon, come see Dr. Ty. The doctor is a miracle worker!

Dr. Ty gave me my life back. I limped in with intractable sciatica. Dr. Ty approached my problem from a minimally invasive approach. He did surgery on me which took all of 45 minutes. I went home the same day. The incision was able to be covered up by a bandaid!

Dr. Ty was very compassionate. He took the time to evaluate my symptoms, reviewed my MRI to show me exactly what was causing my neck pain and sciatica pain and gave me a clear plan to improve my pain. We started conservatively with epidural steroid injections and when they no longer worked, I had a foraminotomy and laminotomy to open up the space around my nerve that was being "pinched". I am pain free and am able to do all of the activities I want. He is a great surgeon! His surgery center in Irvine is beautiful, the staff is excellent, and I couldn't be happier. Great experience at the office in Newport Beach. Felt like I was a VIP. Office staff was amazing and doctor really spent time with my explaining my issue and actually explained my treatment options instead of just saying "this is what we are going to do".

I'm 42 years old and had 2 herniated discs in my neck on top of one another (C5 thru C7) which happened from a work related injury back in 2011. I woke up one morning with numbness in my right arm and both my feet, also shooting pain from my right shoulder running down my elbow to my wrist. The most unpleasant pain you can imagine. I was only sleeping around 4 hours a night! Dr. Ty suggested injections first. We did that with his pain management team but with no luck, Then I asked him "what do we do now?" and he responded "Alec, I can fix that, you will do well". I was so comfortable with him from day one that I literally had zero concern going into surgery. I woke up after surgery with most of the pain gone and over time (a few weeks), all of the pain gone. He's an incredibly a gifted doctor. Since then, I've recommended 4 of my friends and colleagues to see him and to never settle for second best. I recently decided to go through with having  ACDF surgery on my cervical spine (level C6-C7)  I've tried everything to avoid having surgery including physical therapy, spinal decompression, chiropractic care, spinal injections and other types of pain management. I  finally made the decision to go through with the surgery after a lot of prayer and thought. I had been dealing with the pain and problems for a long time and after a lot of research, I found the best man to help me with these issues.  Dr. Ty from BASIC Brain and Spine Inst. in Orange Ca.  I had seen different surgeons who were not very patient and spent very little time answering my questions. Dr. Ty and Dr. Oh of BASIC brain and spine were the first doctors to stop and listen to me and answer every single question that I had about my condition and what my options were. I finally felt I had a sense of security and confidence in the doctors that I was dealing with.  A feeling that I wasn't getting in over a year of trying to find the right doctor. It was definitely a nerve-racking journey for me, but on my very first appointment with Dr. Ty and Dr. Oh, I had a really good feeling and I knew that I was in good hands! They gave me hope and offered me different options to try before "jumping into the surgery pool." Making the decision to have surgery on your spine can be a little bit scary.  Dr. Ty  knows this and he made it as easy and as pain-free as he possibly could. Dr. Ty is and will always be a super huge blessing in my life. I'm a younger gal who has been in tremendous chronic pain for almost 3 years now after a injury I sustained at work. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about him and FYI I am a work comp case. From the moment I met him , at every appointment, treatment, ALIF spinal fusion surgery , my time in the hospital at Chapman Medical Center in Orange and my post operative care, Dr Ty and his team are all amazing.
