Dr. Herbert Paine Edmundson, MD

It is not my goal to continue a fight that is already over but people considering this practice should be aware of our experience. I went to Dr. Edmondson on a friend’s advice. She likes him and says he gave her good care. There are clearly people for whom he is a good match. But it was not so for me. Both the doctor and the staff are from the “shut up and do what we tell you if you want to get well” school of medical care. Any time I asked why a procedure or a rule was the way it was, the only answer was “because that’s how we do it.” Again, this approach is good for some patients—it can be reassuring to some—but understanding the reasons for rules and actions is necessary for me. It was made clear to me on my first visit that if I did not wish to follow every policy without question that I was welcome to find a different doctor. It was my fault for not taking his advice at that moment and walking out the door. Instead I completed that visit and one more which was a waste of my time and his. Because I pushed back against the “do what we say without question” reasoning, I was told that I was hostile. Because I refused to sign paperwork giving them permission to bill my credit card a service fee each time I got a refill, I was again told how hostile I was. Because I insisted that some of the data they collected was wrong (long story) I was asked not to return. Clearly we were not a good match.

Dr. Edmonson is a well educated, knowledgeable and thorough physician. He is someone you want to manage your health. I have been a patient of Dr. Edmonson for 10 years. He is extremely knowledgeable and stays current with evidence based medicine and practices, and those are qualities I want in a physician managing my health and well being. Dr. Edmonson cares and looks at the whole big picture of your health; he performs a thorough exam and provides the highest quality care for the best outcomes. He is compassionate and educates you to ensure you understand everything about your care. Thank you Dr. Edmonson for your service and God Bless you! You are the best!

Dr. Edmundson is caring compassionate and truly takes time to listen. He asks thoughtful questions and is a wonderful doctor. I would highly recommend him to anyone because I know he provides a high level of care to his patients. He is intuitive and thoughtful and overall a wonderful physician. He asks thoughtful and thoughtful-provoking questions to help treat the underlying concerns not just surface level care. I drive 2 hours to see him because I think he’s an excellent physician and he has truly helped treat me.

Both my twin sister and I started seeing Dr. Edmundson after we spoke to a couple friends who have been going to him for years and spoke highly of him. It is hard initially getting ahold of the office in order to book an appointment and they do not have a way to send an email online regarding an appointment/ or questions you have until you’ve seen the doctor and are able to set up the patient portal. 5 stars because, despite the difficulties w the appointment process and getting ahold of them, the staff has always been pleasant to speak to and helpful with any issues. I no called no showed to an appointment and the staff were nice about it and doctor was willing to see me again... (Sorry about that) So if you’re someone who checks out the reviews on a place before you make an appointment this is for you! Dr. Edmundson is genuine, ridiculously knowledgeable, and never hesitate to take the time and really understand what’s going on what your needs are and what he can do best to help you. Fair warning- the dude is one of, if not THE, smartest person I’ve ever met. You may feel dumb or a little awkward initially for that first appointment (I did lol) but it’s because the dudes literally a genius. Don’t worry about it! I want to end this review by adding he doesn’t only Specialize in helping adults with ADD, He primarily specializes in back pain neurology headaches and seizures. So if you’re thinking about booking your first appointment for any of these reasons I’ve listed above, do it!

Yes, he is brisk. Yes, he runs behind. Yes, he is a bit pompous. But yes, he is pretty brilliant. I went in because I was shaking and wanted to get checked out. Diagnosed me with ADD and anxiety. By controlling the ADD and the racing thoughts it has greatly diminished my anxiety. Baby steps for me.

Let me start by saying, it’s the worst experience we had with a doctor EVER. The appointment took too long to complete, but that is far from being the worst thing. The appointment was for my wife and she didn’t speak English very well, so I always help her. He walked in and didn’t say hello, he told me that doesn’t want me to speak at this point. I didn’t like that, but I thought he wanted to her from. But, I quickly discovered that he is very rude and careless. I stood up to see what’s he is doing. He got upset, he asked me to sit down (I felt like a first grade student) I refused and confronted him head on and refused to sit down. I told him “you are rude”. I asked him about the results of the test, he said “in due time”. I have let his nurse know how I feel about him. Don’t go to this place at all.

Was referred to Dr. Edmunson by my PCP and told to get some tests done which I took both. Yes some of the wait times were a little longer then expected but what doctors office isn’t ?? Anyways man listened to me and asked questions and I gave answers and I was able to ask plenty of questions and give plenty of answers. Every time I used to the patient portal I was contacted back almost immediately guess I’m just a lucky patient reading all these terrible reviews ...

Our experience with the dr was excellent He let us know right at first what he wanted from us & after the visit we understood why. He asks the questions & then tells us what is going on with our body. Very good at explaining everything & we appreciate that so much Thank you dr edmondson?? Kathy & Elbert hohmann

We have used Dr. Edmundson for about 6 years. He is the best Neurologist we have found. He only interacts directly with the patient. This is the best way to evaluate, diagnose and treat the individual. So if you are a family member, understand you may not be allowed in the exam room. If you are allowed (this is rare), you will not be allowed to answer for the patient and you must save your questions or comments until the very end of the evaluation or visit. Just sit quietly and watch and you will understand his methods are the best for the patient. My husband's successful recovery is due in large part to Dr. Edmundson and we are grateful for his care.

This man has no respect of patient time. The very first visit mind you is what you would expect. Very prompt and courteous. The second visit my wife and 2 children waited 1.5 hr only to do a 30 min test then wait another hour for Dr Edmundson to talk to. He was very rude and rushing them out of the office because by then it was 630 and he seemed like he wanted to go home. Mind you the original appt was at 3:30 pm after the kids got out of school. So you can imagine everyone was hungry and tired. He then spoke to my wife as if she was not important when she was asking questions towards my child's diagnosis. You would think as a concerned parent he would be more attentive. The 3rd visit was the same. 1.5 hr wait and still just as rude as the second visit. You would think for the money you are spending and your insurance as well they would be more professional. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Also my wife attempted to communicate through the patient portal to which she did not get answers back to multiple requests. The staff and the Dr himself tried to tell her she was doing it wrong. I saw myself where her sent items were directed to his office.

"Bedside" manner a little brisk-- but he is about the most accurate-professional , Doctor I have ever dealt with in my 83 years

Re Dr. Herbert Edmundson - Negative Experience! Adj that come to mind re Dr Herbert Edmundson: rude, uncaring, cold, abrupt, unprofessional, offensive, condescending, impolite, bully, arrogant, ill-mannered, lacking in self-awareness, egotistical, inept My daughter had a sports related injury/concussion. We took her to her sports med physician for exam. Friend suggested we visit a neurologist. Being a nervous mother dealing with our first concussion, we decided to check out Dr. Edmundson. I took my 15 yo daughter to Dr Edmundson for concussion evaluation. MRI taken that very morning by her sport med physician. Figured we would discuss the accident, go over what her symptoms/treatment had been & review MRI. Wrong! Dr Edmundson treated us like “things”. He took my daughter’s chair, turned it so that she was facing him with her back was to me. He told her he would be speaking with her and I was not allowed to contribute to the conversation. He questioned her about her accident, time exactly, day of week, exact date, when did she go to dr, etc. She got confused & if she misspoke, he intensified his questions & said something to the effect of "Well, your mother gave a different date on the paperwork & it doesn’t match up with what you are saying. So, which is it are you giving the right date or is she?” He badgered her until she broke down in tears. My daughter suffers from severe anxiety & takes rx to help with those issues. I put that info in her records. He then addressed the fact that she’s on the rx for anxiety & acted flippant about why a child her age would be on this rx. Doesn’t make any sense to him. How dare he state this in front of of my daughter without knowing one single thing about her or her history? He pronounced his strong opinions about the care I gave my daughter, the care she rec'd from her physician and stated that it was all a very big problem and perhaps the medical board should be notified etc. Her physician is amazing & did everything right, often going above & beyond to get her proper treatment. Dr Edmundson made terrible presumptions that we were all inept and at fault without even speaking with me, without getting any details regarding the accident, without inquiring about the details of her symptoms and certainly without asking about the treatment she had already received. Dr Edmundson’s style is that he will control the conversation completely. He quizzed her intently about headaches in our family. Has your mother ever had a headache, dad, brother, etc. None of us have issues with headaches but because she mentioned once upon a time had a headache, there he went off on a tangent. He asked about her brother and she, like any sister stated that he’s a pest, etc. & started off on a tangent about how he felt sorry for my son. He concluded that it must be difficult for my son to be living in a family with such a successful sister & how badly that he must feel. What? This man has absolutely no idea about our family dynamic & was making assumptions that my son is somehow sad & mistreated! When he conclude with his interrogation of my daughter, he finally looked at me and said, "Did she get anything wrong?” When I started to explain a few things, he interrupted & asked again, “Did she get anything wrong?" He was not remotely interested in hearing from me. I was stunned that a physician was speaking to me in such a callous manner. He did a quick exam. He did not address the MRI results that we brought with us. When he deemed the visit over, he began to walk out. I stopped him & asked what he proposed we do about her concussion. What did he recommend as far as her missing school? What were his recommendations as she was unable to stay in that environment due to the bright lights and loud noises? She had missed a lot of school at this point. He wasn’t interested in addressing that. Even after I asked specifially, he did not address school issues or concussion accommodations. His response was to come back in 2 wks for more testing & 2 wks after that for review of the results. His plan was for us to leave, wait 4 wks to receive answers about her condition. He was walking out of our appointment without offering a single thought about her condition or any guidelines as to what she should be doing in the meantime. On his way out, he got in her face, pointing his finger and said something like, no sports until I say so! I wish I had walked out of that appt. Have never experienced anything like it & kept thinking it would get better but it only proceeded to get worse. My daughter will never forget how she was treated & I will never forgive myself for allowing this man to treat my child the way he did. He should not be allowed to continue doing this to people. I honestly do not see how he has any patients. In my opinion, he needs to be investigated.

My Dad is having cognitive issues and needed a Neurologist. They live in a small town and there are not many choices in doctors. They made a 345p apt and didn't see the Dr until after 5p. Then the Dr was extremely rude to my Mother and told her to keep quiet. He would not allow out of town family to be on the phone during the apt even though they are on the HIPAA form and POA and it was the patient's wishes. Now they are trying to get in with another Neurologist, even though they will have to drive far to that location, but the new Neurologist is requesting med records from their visit with Dr. Edmundson, but no one will call my Mom back about her request. This is ridiculous. I urge all of you considering this doctor to please pay attention to the reviews. My parents and I didn't look at reviews before due to the lack of choices of doctors in their area, but now that I have read them, I see that there were several other people who suffered the same behavior and circumstances. If you won't listen to me, read the review from a medical practitioner who saw him. I am not sure how he stays in business.

Horrible experience!! I’m a healthcare provider & know quality patient care & concern supposed to be. This doc & office doesn’t need to in business. I drove an hour to get to office (informed them).Receptionist said I couldn’t be seen b/c although I did hav ins. approval, I didn’t hav authorization. Went home; got ins. approval & appt w/in 2 weeks. Drove an hour back & was examined & given a prescription & appt for another month. The pharmacy faxed info request 3 times to Dr. Ed office for one med. No reply for 9 days. I called dr Ed office. Her reply “they didn send.” & “I don’t see it.” So, it was sent again & this time she said “what do I do with this?” Ouch. Got it figured out. So I drive one hr. to nxt 330p appt w/ dr. So I wait one hour in waiting room so I asked “how l much longer? I have patients of my own to see this evening.” Took me to treatment room where I waited another hour before having to leave. As I was leaving treatment room he stopped me, “I was just on my way in to see you.” I said “too late, I have patients to see”. His reply is all you need to know about why this is not a good place- “If you need a dr. to work around your schedule, this is not the place for you. I’ll send your records wherever you need.” I was gonna reschedule but not now. Borderline abandonment; medical board needs to know abt him. Never! Never! Never put your health or trust in this office/Dr. True story!

Appointment was for 4:15. I waited until 5:45 and walked out. It took 20 minutes to make the appointment and when I arrived I spent another 20 minutes filling out paperwork. Before I was finished I was called back so they could tell me how much I would have to pay if I needed any tests. I should have read the reviews on here before I made the appointment. Will never go back.

First, it was difficult to get an appointment because my calls kept going to voicemail and I would get no call back. Finally got a live person on my fourth call in. I filled out all the forms ahead of time and was 10 minutes early. I waited until 1 hour and 20 minutes after my appointment before Dr Edmundson decided to visit with me. He told me that he would ask questions and I was to respond with 2-4 word phrases. If my response needed to be longer in order to be accurate he cut me off. I was lectured on the inaccuracy of my response to a question on one of the forms. (As far as I was concerned, my response was accurate. I was there because the hospital staff told me I had a particular diagnosis and sent me to a neurologist. I would not have been there if I had not been told to be there.) After his Q&A he told me that he didn't even need to see my test results from the hospital to know that all four of the hospital doctors didn't know what they were doing. He spent a few minutes expounding on the failings of the hospital doctors, then read my test results, and finished by patting himself on the back about how smart he is to be able to figure out something that all these other doctors didn't. In my line of work we call that "underbussing" - throwing another professional "under the bus" - and we consider it to be very unprofessional behavior. I did not like Dr Edmundson at all!

Dr E is very rude and condescending to his staff. Terrible backside manners with patients

This man told my daughter I was a liar because I said I don't have migraine headaches. Apparently if you have minor headaches once a month, you are a migraine sufferer. He wasn't saying it jokingly. He then bullied my 12 year old daughter into memorizing the name of the medications that he was prescribing her, because people need to know the medications they are on. I think that just telling her that may have been a more effective method. It's like he has no understanding of how to deal with children, or people for that matter. I don't care how great of a doctor you are, if you behave like an jerk, you're not going to get my business.

Dr. Edmundson is rude and very unfriendly. I will never see this doctor again and I don't recommend him to anyone. It was a horrible experience.

While Dr. Edmundson may be knowledgeable, his bedside manner leaves much to be desired. In my two visits with him, he failed to make any eye contact, refused to allow any elaboration on answers to his staccato series of questions, and seemed much more concerned about his record-keeping of "yes or no" answers than about listening to anything less clear-cut I wanted to explain. Frankly, I wouldn't have returned to him a second time had I not needed to follow up on tests he performed. The follow-up was unsatisfactory to say the least; not only did Dr. Edmundson fail to present the results of one test I had made a special trip to get, but he also rebuked me when I asked him a question: "I discussed that with you the last time, but I guess I'll repeat it now." With the plethora of neurologists in Houston, there are plenty of others who manage to combine expertise and a pleasant bedside manner. Dr. Edmundson is sorely lacking in the latter.
