Dr. James Gunn Lindley, MD

Dr. Lindley is an excellent and caring physician. I have known him as a colleague for many years, as I am an orthopaedic surgeon who has referred many happy patients to Dr. Lindley. Now I am his patient for the past 14 months with a difficult and challenging cervical spine(neck) arthritis. Dr. Lindley is very thorough and detailed in his analysis as well as understanding. I appreciate everything he has done for me. His front desk and clinical staff have been very good as well.

Dr. Lindley is a God send for me. I was only in Savannah for awhile and needed neck surgery. He’s been incredibly professional and caring! He explains my issues well and my neck surgery was a success. I appreciate Dr. Lindley and his expertise very much. It’s comforting when extensive surgery is needed!

Dr Lindley was wonderful. He took a lot of time to explain the procedure and answer all of the questions I had about the anatomy of the spine and how exactly the injections work and what would come next if the injections did or didn’t work. Excellent bedside manner!

I saw this doctor after my ability to walk diminished over just a few months. He diagnosed stenosis at one level and a synovial cyst and recommended a partial laminectomy at that level. He said I could have it done at the hospital in a month, or at their “surgicenter” in a week. I opted for the latter. A month later I was no better, though he insisted that I was. When I called back to ask to be seen again, his rude, unavailable, unsympathetic staff said he could see me in SIX WEEKS. And this was after he had operated on me. When he finally saw me., barely examining me, he diagnosed a bogus condition called “failed laminectomy syndrome” and said I could opt for a fusion. He failed to disclose that his son in law sells fusion hardware. He never failed to demonstrate his complete lack of interest or concern. I finally had to ask another doctor to order a myelogram, which showed complete stenosis at 3 levels. The following week I saw a real neurosurgeon at Emory, who made the diagnosis from a 45 minute physical exam, and the original MRI alone. He squeezed me in for a complete three level laminectomy later that week. He said I was about to lose bowel or bladder control. The surgery gave me immediate relief and I was soon able to walk almost normally again. I do Have a residual mild limp and weakness, entirely due to Dr. Lindley’s inability to make a diagnosis he should have remembered from neurosurgery 101. In fact he may have remember had he bothered to show even the least bit of interest. It’s time for him to hang it up.

I went to Dr. Lindley for lower back pain that could drop me to my knees. I had already had an MRI done and brought it with me. He reviewed the scan and spoke to me about options. He suggested that I do yoga to strengthen the core muscles to help with the back pain. And it did! I really appreciate that he is NOT a doctor who goes straight to the surgical option but takes a conservative approach- or at the very least offers it to the client. 2 years later I landed at the ER for pain in my chest which turned out to be a collapsed vertebrae in my neck (C5/6)- this was a Monday. Called my GP on Tuesday and she ordered an MRI on the cervical part of my neck. MRI was on Wednesday and results got to my GP on Friday morning. She called me and said I needed to go into a neurosurgeon. I called Dr. Lindley's office and the receptionist asked for the MRI report. I told her where the MRI had been performed. They called the MRI facility and within an hour called me back and set up an appointment on the following Monday. I got in to see Dr. Lindley with a limited wait. We reviewed the scans together, my husband too, and discussed practical options. I had already gone to physical therapy for the neck discomfort (12-18 months earlier) and continued to do the exercises and stretches daily. Surgery was the best option for me. The nerve pain since the vertebrae collapse was increasing and I was unable to work, type, etc. The pain was accompanied by increasing neuropathy in my left hand. The office handled the insurance claim, etc and I did pay $500 the day of surgery and budgeted for the remaining balance. The day of surgery I was at the on site surgery center a bit before 6 am, my procedure was scheduled for around 8-9 and it was on time. When I woke up I was pain free. I don't even recall surgical type discomfort. I went home and slept in my own bed! The surgery center called my husband that evening to check on me and again the next morning. Wednesday following the procedure I got violently ill from the anesthesia and they quickly called in medication. On my follow up appointments (I had 2) I met with the PA who was warm and genuinely interested in my discomfort (there was none) and overall wellbeing. Dr. Lindley's skill and conservative approach to my problem drastically improved my life. I can honestly recommend Dr. Lindley without reservation. ps- waiting room furniture is quite uncomfortable!
