Dr. Jenifer Rene Donnell-Kowalik, MD

Dr. Kowalik and her nurses are friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome and comfortable. However on all occasions I’ve gone in for an appointment or spoken with the receptionist over the phone it’s been very unpleasant. She is unfriendly and seems like she doesn’t care at all for the patients that are coming through the door. Basic friendliness isn’t difficult, being ignored or treated like an idiot when you are a new patient or are already feeling unwell is the worst way to start an appointment. She even hung up on me when I was calling to ask about a prescription that was to be called in to my pharmacy. I will continue seeing Dr. K only because she is wonderful, but her receptionist needs an attitude adjustment.

I like this Doc! She's quick and straight forward. I had questions and she answered them and explained why I maybe didn't get the care or understand what prior Drs were intending. I don't get the reviews about the front desk staff. Yes, they asked a lot of questions when I first called but I get that with the Insurance and all the Govt rules clinics have to work differently today. They gave me several options for times and I was happy. I did witness that some other patient came too early for their appointment and was mad when they didn't get checked in. But the staff explained that if someone didn't show up they might t in faster but they would not be checked in if others showed up for their appointments on time as they had those allotted appointment times. I agree, no cutting in line and pushing others back. Seemed fair to me, but the parent got really rude and in the staff's faces. The staff just firmly explained the policy, in the end the parent got so mad they walked out. I don't agree with that kind of behavior. It's a fair policy to see people at their appointment times and not try to squeeze someone else in ahead which would then push everyone on time back. Doc got a call from the hospital and had to run "catch a baby" but I was given an opportunity to wait or reschedule and chose to wait. She was back fast and since she is also an OB I guess that kind of thing can be expected. I knew that walking in she delivered babies so I was OK with it.

I am advanced maternal age with diabetes and other risk factors. Dr Kowalik has the highest standard of care I have ever experienced! I like her to the point manner and had a fantastic experience in my delivery. My baby was over 9 lbs and her patience and care enabled me to deliver with no tearing or episiotomy.

This is my first child and I did not feel like a patient. I felt like I was just another appointment on her list to check off. The wait to actually see the doctor was ridiculous! And when I finally got back to the room I had to wait an extra 20 minutes even though I had an 8:30am appointment and I was the only one in the entire office! When she came into the room she was not welcoming and was very routine with me. I probably only spent 30 minutes tops with the actual doctor and I was in the office for almost 2 hours! At checkout the ladies at the front desk were just as cold as the doctor. The front desk lady just scheduled me an appointment without asking when I would be available next and when I asked for another time and day she replied with "that's what we got take it or leave it". Honestly I ended up changing my doctor.

Unprofessional and unethical staff. Absolutely the worst customer service for a physicians office that I have ever seen. Potential HIPAA violations as the staff openly discusses treatment, codes and patient issues that can be heard from the patient rooms and the lobby. The physician has zero capability or capacity for empathy and care. She lacks the basic overall knowledge to treat various illnesses as a physician board certified in Family Practice and a specialty in OB. This does not include the billing issues and wrong claims, coding and various other insurance/billing issues we've experienced. I could go on but I will leave it to the professionals in the State of Texas to review and identify all of the various issues with the facility, staff and physician.

I am looking for Dr J. kowalik who had her practice behind the Jourdanton hospital...at the time she was working with DR Fenton. both were wonderful drs! I started with her and I ended being high risk and was taken over by her practicing partner dr fenton. Both drs were wonderful and straight to the point. if anyones knows where she has relocated to...and ifs its near Jourdanton...pls private message on fb under jamiee jea. thanks and God bless!

i would recommend dr. kowalik she was their threw my first pregnancy and I couldn't ask for a better doctor

Although this was the only office in san marcos that i found took traditional medicaid they would not schedule my appointment until dr kowalik looked over my records from ctmc because i had recently gone there for spotting which i thought was odd i hv never had this much trouble scheduling an appointment. I let the lady at the front know i needed to get in asap because of the problems i was having and because ive had a miscarriage before but tht didnt help a whole day later and still no call from them so now going to my visit in seguin where they scheduled me right away. Oh and the front desk very messy ghetto if you will papers thrown everywhere not very inviting!

Let me begin by saying that I've worked in the medical field for the last 9 years. This is a customer service based industry just like any other. Dr. Kowalik, her office staff, tech and nurses should be truly ashamed of the quality of care they provide. It is the most unprofessional group of people I've ever encountered. From the personal phone calls by front desk staff (which you can clearly hear from the waiting room), to the disgustingly unfriendly lab tech (I completely agree with the other reviewer about her lack of compassion), to the judgemental Dr. Kowalik. As we explained why we were there to see her she made it very clear that she didn't have the time to listen. She rushed us through by claiming she would make an appointment on our behalf with a specialist. The appointment was never made. We promptly changed doctors and were told that there was NEVER a need for a specialist. It terrified me that a "Doctor" would put this fear into the hearts of a pair of first time parents who were being told our baby had " a failure to thrive". Our child is fine and didn't need ANY additional testing. Turns out we just needed a new competent Doctor. Please avoid this office...especially if you have a child!

I went here for my first baby. We found out we had lost her at our 16 week check-up. The doctor is very sweet and helpful. I am pregnant again and am going to her office again. I hate the staff, they are so rude. Last time they forgot to tell me about an appointment they had made for me, didn't fax papers to another office they sent me to, we had to wait almost 3 hrs for them to do it and one of the nurses laughed when I told her I had been super sick for a while now, had not been able to eat for 2 days because I kept throwing up and had lost weight. She basically said it was normal and to suck it up. She gave me no recommendations of what to eat or take. The only reason why I keep going is because I really like the doctor. But I am considering changing.

Keisha Lang the Medical assistant is rude and insensitive to the needs of the patients and referred to them as Uneducate low income medicaide patients. and she curses all the time. her bedside manner is horrible. and I dont understand why a doctor would want someone like that working for them.

I usually have to wait about an hour for other specialists. I see Dr K for my pregnancy. I am high risk due to diabetes and previous failed pregnancies. Dr K was very thorough in finding out my history and explained in detail the risk of my pregnancy with diabetes. She told me straight up that if I did not control my sugars I would put my baby at risk. She monitored me closely and we have finally been able to have a healthy successful pregnancy.

So for all the negative reviews below...I just left Dr. Kowalik's office and was totally 100% pleased. I was about 15 minutes early for my appointment and only had to wait about 7 minutes before being called back. Once in the room my vitals were taken and the nurse was nice. Dr. Kowalik came in within 5 minutes or so and easily spent about 10 minutes with me going over why my BP was up. Very nice and easy to talk to. The nurse that took my blood for a test was amazing...I always have a hard time giving blood but she took her time and only had to poke me once. Checkout was easy and fast. They only person I encountered that seemed unhappy was the lady that checked me in...but then again I have never seen her smile. Give Dr. Kowalik a try....I know you will like her!!!

After a thirty-minute wait in the lobby I was finally called back for my Essure consult. Took another twenty minutes for Kowalik to actually get in the exam room because they FORGOT I WAS THERE. During the consultation, Kowalik repeatedly injected her unwanted personal opinion into my medical decisions, forcing me to conclude that she is neither professional nor ethical enough not to "accidentally" botch my procedure. I am currently seeing an ACTUAL gynecologist for my Essure procedure and have declared a new PCP with my insurance. I will NEVER go back to Kowalik. She is a poor doctor and a judgmental person.

I was extremely displeased with Dr. Kowalik and her staff. The only reason I went to her office in the first place is because my regular gynecologist did not offer the specific procedure (Essure, a method of sterilization) I was wanting. My doctor's only option for sterilization was a tubal ligation and I didn't like the idea of surgery. I used Essure's website to find a physician that was able to perform the procedure and Dr. Kowalik was listed. I set up an appointment for a consultation, this was the first red flag I should have recognized. I was told that most likely my insurance wouldn't cover a birth control consultation, and it would cost $100 for the visit. In the event that my insurance did in fact cover a birth control consultation the $100 would be refunded. I didn't think anything of it, being self-employed we don't have the best coverage of insurance. The day of my consultation I met with Dr. Kowalik she seemed nice, but in a hurry. I felt rushed, but fortunately I had done lots of research and knew what I wanted to ask and was pretty set on having this procedure. I had to sign a waiver for sterilization and wait 30 days, standard practice my insurance providers to make sure you don't change your mind. When I checked out of the office, prepared to pay my $100. The woman at the front desk asked for $150, when I mentioned this was not the amount given to me over the phone she went back into an office to talk to the office manager. She came back out and agreed to the $100, it was odd. There was already some miscommunication and definite lack of cohesion in the office. In the meantime, I sent over my medical records from my usual Dr. I actually love my Dr.'s office so much I made sure to tell them I just needed them for the procedure, I was in no way leaving their practice. 30 days passed and I figured I'd hear back from Dr. Kowalik's office. I let a week go by just to see if they'd call. Didn't hear from them, but I know they're busy and I'm the one who wanted the procedure, so I finally call. They said they'd order the Essure and call me when it comes in. I let 2 weeks pass, surely it should have been in by then, and I hadn't heard back so I call. They tell me it wasn't ordered yet and my medical records were not received. Ugh. I call my Dr. and they said they sent the records, but would try sending them again. I call Dr. Kowalik's office to let them know the records were being sent, they said they'd call when they were received. Another week goes by without hearing from them. They claim they'll order the Essure and call back. For about a week there I thought I was finally getting somewhere with one of the staff, but they claim to "call back when they hear something" and I don't get called back. It was frustrating. I'm busy myself, so I don't have the time to constantly call an office to make sure they're on top of things, they should be able to do that without a patient having to breathe down their necks. The point from scheduling the initial consultation to going back and forth with their office was several months. I finally gave up and decided on the tubal ligation with my Dr. I figured if Dr. Kowalik and her staff couldn't get their stuff together in a timely manner simply to set up the Esssure procedure, I definitely didn't feel comfortable with her performing it. I chose to have my lesser choice of tubal ligation done by my Dr. that I trust and his staff that I can rely on. I'd also like to note, I was required to have a birth control consultation (since it's permanent) and I was not charged for this at my Dr. It was covered, unlike Dr. Kowalik's staff claimed. I again had to wait 30 days for the procedure and this office kept in contact with me throughout the 30 day wait. They made sure everything happened on time and was arranged properly. In fact, I was given an appointment for the procedure at the consultation! No waiting game like at Dr. Kowalik's office. Dr. Kowalik's office is so unorganized it made me seriously lose confidence in the quality of care I would receive. I am very happy with my decision and glad I don't have to deal with Dr. Kowalik's office ever again. I would not ever recommend her office to anyone. If you're interested, my usual gynecologist is Dr. Kody Kunda. He is a wonderful Dr. and his staff is amazing. I've been going to his office for over 7 years now. I love his Nurse Practitioner Christina as well. I always get reminder phone calls for my appointments and they're all very friendly. I can't recommend them enough!

Do people on here really get mad over a lab tech not smiling at their kid? Lol thats thr most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. If i went around expecting every one to smile st my kids and act like they are special i would be a pretty disappointed person. Ive never had bad experiences with this office but i also dont need them to hold my hand and sugar coat every thing for me either. They get in, do what they need to do and get out. If you want them to linger and take their sweet precious time doting on you then you have way too much time on your hands wanting to spend all day in a doctors office. And regardless of whether the lab tech smiles at me or not, she's good at what she does and always draws me perfectly. I'd rather her focus on what she's doing rather than chatting me up and having to stick me or my kids repeatedly. People need to stop acting like they are royalty walking into a doctors office. As long as you get taken care of thats all that should matter

Please do not use the Doctor!!! She could have not been more uncaring and smug! She makes you feel incredibly stupid when you ask questions pertaining to your symptoms. I always left there feeling very uneasy about her lack of interest in what I had to tell her. She seems to want you in and out soo incredibly fast (presumibly to cram as many badly treated patients in as possible for money making purposes)! Her staff is the most unintelligent and rude group of people I've ever encountered in a "professional" environment. And the icing on the cake was the phlebotomist who couldn't bring herself to say hello of even smile at my child whom she was about to draw blood from.

I found a lump in my breast and she wanted me to wait two and a half weeks for an appointment to check it out.

This doctor and her office are a complete joke. She did a horrible job with my c section. she didn't even take a look at my son when i brought him in for his first check up she just glanced at him and said he looked great. The MA she had didn't even know how to stick a thermometer in my ear correctly to get my temperature nor was she even able to get my weight accurately. The lady in the front is extremely rude and disgusting to deal with. I would run as fast as you can to another doctor.

Dr Kowalik is just fine. She cared for me during my pregnancy and through the first year and a half of my son's life. HOWEVER I have had enough with the lack of courtesy, professionalism and unnecessary rudeness of the office staff. I would not reccommend her JUST BECAUSE of the girls up front. I refuse to be treated so badly anymore and would not encourage friends to subject to the same behavior.
