Ohhhh me! Dr. Hammer is a fantastic surgeon, a gentleman and a scholar. He quickly and accurately diagnosed my knee injury and gave me a fantastic non operative solution via a simple sleeve that has advanced materials to help promote blood flow and healing. He cares about you as a person and even asked my mom what she does for a living. He has trained with the best, and the excellence he exuded on the football field at IU clearly carries over into his clinical practice.

In 2011 in Bloomington, IN Dr. Hammerstein saved my life (LITERALLY) I had a very serious spinal injury. I was loosing my ability to walk. Dr Hammerstein found the problem, and determined that it was VERY close to being life threatening and permanently debilitating. He fused two disks, and got them off my spinal cord. So much more id love to share about this situation, but limited wording. This Doctor is the best, I was so sad to see him move. You folks are VERY blessed to have him in your area. I would love to shake his hand and even hug his neck and tell him in person, Thank you again Dr.

Don’t go to Dr. Hammerstein, you will regret it! He doesn’t accept responsibility for his own actions!

He was my ortho surgeon and he was caring and professional. He explained my procedure thoroughly. He truly cared about me as a patient.

The last post is false and unwarranted. I left Bloomington because the hospital (Monroe Hospital) was financially unstable. It would go bankrupt in 2014.

Dr Hammerstein was ready to perform surgery on me, but I got 2nd and 3rd opinions from highly respected surgeons who confirmed the surgery Dr Hammerstein wanted to perform on my spine would be a disaster. He didn't take into consideration my previous surgeries and other conditions. He was released from his practice in Bloomington, Indiana due to the high rate of complications post-surgery.

I work with Dr. Hammerstein and his staff for several years working through my back surgery. they are patient and will work through all the steps at your pace to find a solution to solve the issues. In my case we ended with a low lumbar fusion. It has solved almost all my issues and has greatly increased my enjoyment of activities. The surgery went smooth, with no surprises or issues. It is worth the extra time waiting to work with these folks.

I am an 86-yr old woman who is now pain-free after Dr. Hammerstein's successful surgery for severe spinal stenosis. He is not only an expert at my precise problem but also calm, informative, and caring. After 2-3 years of constant back pain I had decided that it was because I was OLD! How wrong was my assumption! I will be forever indebted to Dr. H for giving me my life back!

I highly recommend Dr. Hammerstein, specializing in neck and spine surgery. When steroid shots were no longer effective for my stenosis, surgery was next. Dr. Hammerstein was personable, obviously very knowledgeable and experienced, and instilled trust immediately with his conservative focus. I am a very physically active woman; my major fear is the loss of mobility. My 3 level laminectomy surgery immediately relieved the pain and recovery has been continuous and positive. He was available by phone, though at a conference, the one time I had a concern that I'd hurt myself.

To start off Dr. Hammerstein doesn't push surgery he wants alternative measures first. Once you both decide surgery is needed. Dr. Hammerstein is the one you want he was born to do surgery he understands the body and positions we should have and he makes it happen. I have had L2,3. L3,4. L5,6. L6,7 fussed. I DID NOT get full movement and pain relief until Dr. Hammerstein done the final level after 3 prior surgeons. I knew immediately I had finally had a successful surgery and my life back. 1 yr. Later I was involved in an auto wreck (driver of other vehicle was sited) Dr. Hammerstein had to do c6,7 fusion AGAIN immediate relief. I can not say enough Dr. Hammerstein is the surgeon you want! I want to tank all of his team and Dr. Hammerstein for giving me my life back, pain free, ability to be active and live my life the way I want... God bless you all and keep up the amazing work.

He is a terrible Dr. He damaged the nerves in my spine 7 yrs ago and I have had to have over 11 surgeries since his screw up.

Dr. Hammerstein is AMAZING! He literally saved my life. I was rear ended in a car accident that caused damage to L5-S1. I spent over a year exhausting every option other than surgery. My left leg was going numb, I had constant shooting pain. When I finally decided to pursue surgery, Dr. Hammerstein came highly recommended. I'm thankful every day that I made that appointment. From the moment I walked into Northern Rockies Orthopedics, I knew I was in the right place. The staff is friendly, professional and made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Hammerstein is one of the most compassionate and caring physicians I have ever met. Not to mention he is passionate about Backs! Great combo! I had an anterior fusion, it was not easy, it's painful, but I'm getting better everyday. The old pain is completely gone. He fixed my back! It will be a while before I'm able to get back to the things I loved, but I'm confident that I'll be back snowboarding, riding my bike, hiking, camping and doing all the things I love. So is back surgery worth it? YES, if you have the right surgeon and you are committed to recovery and getting better. I'm so thankful to Dr. Hammerstein, Nichole Swartz and his entire staff. One step at a time, but those steps are getting easier every day!
