Dr. John K. Tsai, MD

Dr. Tsai may be a good doc, but he is definitely worthless for IBS and/or SIBO. After ordering multiple expensive tests (possibly necessary to rule out a physical issue), he never even mentioned basic common treatments for IBS and SIBO. Instead when his useless suggestions did not help, he even mentioned having a colectomy so not have to deal with issues and referred me to a surgeon - for an issue that was resolved with antibiotics and a special diet. He was also quick to be sure never to allow more than his scheduled 15 mins. for a visit.

Austin gastro has very murky billing practices. They changed my husbands preventative colonoscopy to diagnostic the night before his procedure at 5pm via email along with a balance due. We thought it was a scam, he took the liquids for the procedure that night and got hit with bills as soon as he signed into the endoscopy center. The bills are now in the thousands and should have been paid our insurance. The appt was scheduled with Dr. Tsai for months and they switched to diagnostic unknown to us due to hemmoroids he's had for 10 years. It was the PA who had taken notes during the consult that made the prodedure diagnostic and inaccurate. Terrible communication and very disappointed in lack of transparency. If we would have been told it was going to be considered diagnostic we would have liked the choice to proceed or not but instead they surprise billed us. Disputing charges with our insurance and beyond to fight this unethical billing scenario. Check the BBB, they have many complaints about this same kind of billing practice from other patients.

Dr Tsai is very personable, professional, relatable. I found him to be thourough and answered all if my questions. His staff is smiling and friendly, as well as helpful. I would not hesitate to refer friends and family.

Dr Tsai came highly recommended. I needed to be seen and expected a wait if a month or more. What a surprise to see him within 2 days! He is caring and listened to me. He then did a brief exam and explained what the next steps would be to diagnosing my issues and what to expect. He was great! I am a visual learner and he drew a diagram to show me what was happening. He had reviewed my health history before the appointment and set a clear plan to diagnosis my condition. He was personable and thorough. Am very happy with him. I would highly recommend Dr Tsai to anyone with gastric issues.

My experience at the clinic and endoscopy center was excellent. Colonoscopies are important but not a favorite thing to do - but this health team makes it as simple and comfortable as possible.

Ive had stomach issues for years, and fully understand that getting to the bottom of issues can be difficult. What I appreciated the most about Dr. Tsai was his empathy and willingness to listen to my issues vs just jumping to a conclusion and pursuing something based on a hunch as so many other GIs have done.

Worst doctor I have ever encountered. He missed an astoundingly obvious diagnosis, falsified medical records, and was rude and condescending. Considering legal action.

Dr. Tsai's bedside manner needs professional coaching. In our numerous interactions, he prefers to speak to his patient rather than listen to and answer their questions. It is fairly ignorant to assume a patient lacks knowledge to ask pertinent questions and exchange in a dialog about their care or results of a procedure. The office is difficult to schedule an appointment or procedure. In addition, it is impossible to have a conversation with their nursing staff as their preferred method is a very tedious back and forth on their portal. If you are seeking care for anything other than a very basic diagnostic test which only requires you to receive the results on a website, seek a different physician and office.

doesn’t care about the patient

Demanded I apologize to his staff member who called to reschedule procedure as I was leaving for hospital. The call was stressful and the caller couldn’t understand why I couldn’t reschedule an hour before I was supposed to arrive. MD made demand after I was checked in with my gown on, paid coinsurance & had blood drawn. Would not hear what I had to say, no cared about the arrangements that had to be made for myself and driver. We both took off of work. It’s not that simple.

Both my wife and myself have had procedures (colonoscopy) with Dr Tsai in the past year. My wife’s procedure went flawlessly and a few months later, mine was as well. His staff are very pleasant and professional. It has been our experience that Dr Tsai is an extremely compentent, talented physician that we both highly recommend.

I went to Dr. Tsai for a routine colonoscopy. I had no problems but it was ten years since my last one. Insurance covers routine procedure 100%. It was not until I received the bill that I saw the procedure was billed as diagnostic. There was no discussion of any problems prior to the procedure, no referral for issues from another doctor and no discussion of options. After many attempts to resolve this, I still have a $6K bill (including facility which bills off Dr codes). Dr. Tsai refuses to admit any wrong doing. Complaining to Texas Medical Board.
