Dr. John Louis Harding, MD

If you have a pregnancy with few complications, then Dr. Harding is a great doctor. He has an easy-going personality and can help guide you through the journey of pregnancy. However, if you are like me and have something very rare happen, then you will find Dr. Harding to be an inattentive and incautious physician. What exactly happened to me? I had a third-degree tear during childbirth; Dr. Harding was not the delivering physician, but took over my care thereafter. Before he discharged me from the hospital, he neglected to evaluate my perineal wound. I was at home for a week and started experiencing problems. I called him twice on the same day with concerns that my perineal wound had dehisced. Dr. Harding reported that was “highly unlikely” and that I should “monitor the situation.” He was correct in that the dehiscence of a perineal wound is truly rare, yet it had indeed happened to me. Dr. Harding’s lackadaisical and heedless manner landed me in the hospital for five days with a serious infection. I opine that he should have asked me to come into the office and examine me the day that I had called twice, then it is likely that I would not have developed a severe infection, and that my reconstructive surgery and 12 weeks of home health care would have also been less extensive. While the Virginia Board of Medicine did not institute disciplinary proceedings for Dr. Harding regarding this case, they did advise him that he “may wish to examine some aspects of [his] practice.” Do you want a physician to oversee your pregnancy and delivery that needs to “examine some aspects of [his] practice?” My hope for you is that you do not trust Dr. Harding to do so. I regret that I did. Needless to say, I sought a different OB with the Carilion healthcare system for my subsequent pregnancy and will never again return to Lewis-Gale.

I have had the pleasure of having Dr. Harding assist me with both my pregnancies. He is amazing, funny, kind, honest and caring. He will not steer you wrong and will treat you as an individual with special and separate needs, assure your every fear and go through your pregnancy with you. You are not just a patient to Dr. Harding. He is the best, and I recommend him to every one. His staff is second to none they compliment Dr. Harding's caring and compassion. They become part of your family. Dr. Keely , also in Dr. Hardings office assits Dr. harding and vice versus. They work amazingly together . I was blessed to have Dr. Keely with my second birth , and Dr. Harding was on the phone coach from abroad. Such amazing doctors. I was blessed to be able to have them and I hope you are too.

This was my first time visiting Dr. Harding for my annual checkup. He made this visit so comfortable for me. He started by coming in and asking me some questions, just getting to know me first. During the visit, he did a good job of talking me through his process. Afterwards, he thanked me for coming and was just so pleasant and polite about everything. I am sure that I am like most women who don't always look forward to these appointments. But having a doctor like Dr. Harding who makes things so comfortable and efficient makes it so much more easier to get through. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great doctor who cares!

I really like how he remembers his patients. He always takes his time, talks to me so I can understand and checks up on you.

I had a wonderful experience during my surgery! Dr. Harding and his staff are great! You always get return calls quickly and they are very professional. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor or staff for my surgery! I highly recommend them! I don't know if I'd even have had my surgery without such a compassionate dr and staff!

Dr. Harding is an excellent doctor with an excellent bedside manner. He is very personable. It is obvious that his career is his passion. I have been a patient of Dr. Hardingâ??s since 2006. He truly cares about womenâ??s general health and the health of expectant mothers and their babies. I have complete trust and confidence in him. He always takes time to answer all of my questions and address my concerns. He even personally returns phone calls. He always explains everything to me whether it is for an annual routine visit or maternity care. After years of infertility and finally conceiving thru IVF, I ended up being high risk. I was constantly worried that something would happen after finally getting pregnant, but Dr. Harding helped me feel confident that my baby boy was fine at each appointment. He was very supportive throughout my whole pregnancy, my labor, and my cesarean section. He has also been supportive with other health concerns I am facing postpartum. I will continue to go to Dr. Harding for womenâ??s annual health exams and if God blesses me with another child, I will choose Dr. Harding to provide us care with that pregnancy also.

Dr. Harding is an awesome doctor. His bedside manor is wonderful. He is a great listener and easy to talk to. He is very knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Harding is a competent, cautious, and caring doctor. He is truly a people person and has an excellent bedside manner. He's also careful and thorough. He took every precaution in looking after my baby and me. Although he wasn't on call when I delivered, he made sure labor and delivery had my birth plan. He was respectful of my wishes and always took the time to listen. "Your time is valuable" is his mantra, and this shows in his demeanor. He's also very prompt with personally returning phone calls, whatever the concern may be. Excellent physician!

Dr. Harding is the most fantastic doctor I have ever met in my entire life, he cares about mothers and their babies. No words can express how awesome my experience was.

Dr. Harding is the most caring doctor I know. I was one of his first patientsin his new facility. I was unsure because I never had a doctor that practiced outside of Lewis Gale. I was so impressed by his candor and bedside manner. He helped mewhen i was at my worse in pregancy and always made himself and his staff avaiable. Even after I had my baby he was there as a friend and even some of my family members see him. He accepts Medicaid and I think it's important to say that he doens't treat his patients any different because of their finacial status. He is a wonderful doctor and if you hae the chance to have him you and your cild would be blessed.
