Leo W. Raisis, M.D.Board-Certified Orthopaedic SurgeonDr. Raisis specializes in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery, Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, General Orthopaedics, Fracture Care, and ArthroscopyAfter graduating with honors from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1979, Leo Raisis completed his medical training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1983, receiving his M.D. degree as an Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society member. Following a general-surgery internship with Christiana Care during the next year, Dr. Raisis was an orthopaedic surgery resident at Drexel University College of Medicine from 1984 through 1988, where he also specialized in pediatric orthopaedics with Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Philadelphia in 1986. Dr. Raisis has been in private practice for orthopaedic surgery in Wilmington with First State Orthopaedics since 1988, with a subspecialty in total hip and total knee replacement. He has served
as medical director for the Christiana Care Center for Advanced Joint Replacement since 2000, and was section chief of Orthopaedic Surgery from 1997 to 2001. Dr. Raisis been an adjunct associate professor in the University of Delawares Department of Physical Therapy since 2008 and remains on active staff at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. A current Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Raisis is also a member of the Delaware Orthopaedic Society and served as president of the Medical Society of Delaware from 2001 to 2002. He is a past member and president of the New Castle County Medical Society and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Arthritis Foundation. Dr. Raisis has authored articles concerning lumbar disk hernation, leg-length discrepancies in children and rehabilitation after joint replacement. He has been named one of Delaware Today magazines Top Docs several times and is a recipient of the Teaching Award for Chief Resident of Orthopaedic Surgery from Drexel University College of Medicine.
