While visiting Asheville on vacation from Arizona, I had a bad fall and broke my leg and ankle in at least 5 places. My fractures were described to me as “epic” and “like your leg exploded”! Since I was a visitor to Asheville, and because it was an emergency, I did not have the luxury of asking colleagues for a good reference, interviewing Doctors or even checking out patient reviews. I got who I got! I myself am an RN of 21 years in a hospital setting so choosing a good Dr is important to me. I am also a woman of faith. I was left to my faith and a prayer that I would get the care I needed. I only met Dr Hendrick briefly before the surgery, in rounds after the surgery and once post op in his office. He was polite, professional, confident and caring. Of course I would be going home to Arizona and would need to find a new Doctor to follow my rehabilitation at home. When I mentioned I was having trouble finding a new Dr he listened and offered to help if needed. I thanked him but planned on figuring it out when I got home. After returning to Arizona I set out ti find my follow up care. I was happily surprised when I received a call out of the blue from my first choice Doctors office that they would accept me! Originally they had turned me down, but apparently had changed their mind. At my first appointment with Dr Poulson I was told that Dr Hendrick had called him, reviewed my case and asked him to take me on as a patient! I was speechless and so touched that Dr Hendrick would do that for me on his own. My new Dr was sharp and personable and I felt comfortable right away. As he reviewed my before and after surgery X-rays and explained what he saw, he must have used the term “excellent “ at least a half dozen times to describe the repair. He had nothing put praise for the skill of Dr. Hendrick and pointed out that this devastating fracture was very difficult to repair and could’ve gone wrong in so many ways but was done to perfection. He said all the things he could worry about as far as rehabilitation were not there and that I should do well in recovery. I would walk and work again! For this nurse that was music to my ears. As a woman of faith I saw the hand of God in my care. It was more than a coincidence that our paths crossed. We were both in the right place at the right time so that this devastating injury could be repaired by a Dr with excellent skills. I’m thankful for modern medicine, technology and the skilled hands of this surgeon. I know my leg will never be the same. I will likely have aches and pains from all the metal hardware in it. (a rod, a plate and at least 11screws) it won’t be the same again until the resurrection, but my leg was saved and will function and I have this excellent surgeon to thank for that!

All the staff I came in contact with was nice and personable. I have confidence in Dr Hedrick (which is a huge deal for any patient and doctor). He is very thorough and considers all avenues of treatment with my opinion included. When I see him for a problem I know I’m going to get a no nonsense and no beating around the bush answer with well thought out reasonable options laid out. I will continue to see him for any of my foot problems.

Dr. Hedrick is outstanding, as an orthopedic surgeon, and as a family man and person. I know him as my doctor and as a brother in Christ. He took excellent care of me (hammertoes, bunion). I highly recommend him.

Dr Hedrick was great. He took his time with me and thoroughly explained my problem along with the options for dealing with it. He gave me a paper copy of my XRays and wrote down for me the terms I could research. Kind and friendly—wish more doctors were like this!
