Dr. Mark Widstrom, MD

Dr. Widstrom has been my OBGYN for over 14 years, and he is truly an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person. From aggressively treating my infertility issues related to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, to reassuring me throughout my high-risk pregnancy that required a C-section, to my desire for permanent birth control, to general health issues and onto my recent breast cancer, he has never been less than extremely compassionate, caring and knowledgeable. The care I have received has always been impeccable, and I genuinely look forward to seeing him yearly for my exams, as he is miraculously down-to-earth, witty, genuine and willing to listen to his patients. Through the years, I have requested procedures or vaccines that would not ordinarily be par for course, and he has always listened to me and allowed me to make my health decisions based on my own research and convictions, and as an educated woman, I appreciate nothing more than an educated man who is willing to listen to my desires and acknowledge the time I have spent researching them. When I asked for a permanent birth control method at the age of 31, he didn't bat an eye or question my decision. After years of abnormal pap results and my conviction based on very few studies that have shown that the HPV vaccine series following HPV infection can potentially reverse existing HPV and protect against future strains, he allowed me to complete the HPV vaccine series without question or protest, despite the fact that I was 41 and far past the recommended age of vaccination. As resistant as I was to getting my first mammogram, it was him who convinced me it was time, and when I was found to have breast cancer at 41 after that first mammogram, he stayed apprised to my health situation and made himself available to me to talk or ask his opinion and advice despite the fact that he does not specifically treat breast cancer. When, after my bilateral mastectomy, I learned that my breast cancer was highly estrogen/progesterone receptive, making a recurrence or secondary cancer more likely, he was in full support of my desire for a full hysterectomy at 42 to reduce cancer recurrence risks, and went to bat with my insurance company to get it approved. He is remarkable in working with my highly anxious personality to lower that anxiety level and to reassure me. He has always made a point of calling me personally when needed, be it when I was diagnosed with breast cancer or to share with me that he was able to get my hysterectomy approved after a battle with insurance. I don't know that I will ever again be as fortunate to find a doctor as caring, personable, compassionate, knowledgeable and skilled as Dr. Widstrom.

Dr. Widstrom is one of the most compassionate and caring doctors I have ever met. He ensured the safe birth of my son as well as listened to me. He made sure my wishes were followed as much as possible and is always thinking ahead. I trust him with my health as well as my childrens'.

Very comfortable to talk with, efficient, informative, and very respectful of privacy. The only reason I rate 4 stars for ease of appointment is because he only travels to my small town twice a month.

I have had two laps done. The second by him. He did the surgery and left in a hurry right after the surgery. Within a month after surgery my pain came back. He was going to do a hysterectomy and removal of my ovaries but no removal of my endo. I had a 2nd opinion from a endo specialist stating the endo must be removed. I brought the 2nd opinion in with me he just took a glance at it. Find a doctor who removes the endo.

I saw Dr. Widstrom for the full length of my pregnancy. He was very good at not seeming rushed and listening to my concerns. I had a high risk pregnancy so I was there quite often. His nurse was very friendly and caring. He made sure to fit me in even if he was booked and made sure to schedule all the tests I needed and follow up to make sure everything was done. However, he was late for almost every appt I had which was very inconvenient to say the least. I would typically wait 30-45 minutes, a couple times it got to be 1.5 hrs! (Which is crazy, if I didn't have to drive so far I never would have waited that long.) He also diagnosed an infection I had without doing any tests, which kind of concerned me but the RX he gave me cured it, so his guessing was accurate. Overall he was a decent Doctor. Baby is healthy so far. But I probably won't go back to him.

He will try to treat you before diagnosing through laparoscopy. THIS IS NOT STANDARD PROCEDURE! He is always late and always BLAMES the nurses, secretary, other staff for his lateness.He does a poor job of removing endometriosis surgically. I had an expert do surgery on me 4 weeks later because he left so much behind. He is pushy about a drug called Lupron, and does not provide adequate information about the treatment in order to make an informed decision. Overall I don't think he tried to do me wrong. He just is not the best doctor for treatment of endometriosis. He doesn't know that much about it.
