Dr. Mary Nistharani Tilak, MD

Run, don’t walk away from this medical practice! This is the most disorganized doctor’s office I have ever been to. I was supposed to have blood work done, I was told that I had to do it at their office and to just come in and they would be able to do it the day before my appointment. When I went in there was no record of any bloodwork that needed to be done, but they could do it based on what I had done over a year ago. I told them no, that I would like to have it done elsewhere, since last time the results never showed up. They were supposed to call me back that day, but never did. I called back the next day, and was again promised a call back, which never came. Today I called and they actually hung up on me ( I was not yelling, but was, again, asking for a call back with the requested information). This is just the most recent of many poor experiences with this office. I will NOT be returning to this practice, and if you have any health issues I recommend you going anywhere else but here.

This practice is good if you have an issue they can write you a script for. If you are prevention seeking, this may not be the practice for you. They will listen but have few answers if you have question that deal with root cause or prevention. Test results are considered, only once they have reached the range that constitutes disease or malady. They basically let the problem fester until they can write you a prescription and this IS their answer to most everything. They are kind and polite but not for those who want to prevent disease just those who want to manage it.

I am struck by the negative comments from some patients and felt it necessary to give my own. I have been a patient for many years at Dr. Tilak’s office and have never had a complaint. Herr staff has always been very helpful, patient and kind. My nurse Practicianer for the last 4 or 5 yrs is Elizabeth Case and I think she is amazing. I have never waited more then a few minutes to see her. She is very thorough. I have never felt I have received anything but exceptional care. I would and have recommended this Physicians Office to many.

The office has no clue what is going on with patients. It's have a test, then 5 more with no results. Good luck seeing the Dr.. the staff doesn't last for more 3 months, and no follow up when a patient gets discharged from the ER. Comforting. Hope it's not your Mom. Thank you

Dr Tilak refuses to see her patients because she prioritizes meetings over patient care. When she does finally decided to see a patient, you can hear her discussing your case as soon as she leaves the room. They talk bad about the patients and she belittles her associates. She comes to work dressed as though she works in a brothel and is more concerned about herself rather than the patient. Don’t waste your time at this practice.

Dr. Tilak has provided for best care for my father. She listens to what his concerns are and is very empathetic. We are confident that her treatment plan will make a world of difference in the quality of life for my father.

I have been a patient for 4 years. Dr. Tilak is very thorough and spends quality time at each visit. The staff is friendly and the practioners spend quality time with each visit. The team is very good. Yes, at times the scheduled wait time is lengthy, but I feel it is because she and her staff spends more then 15 minutes with each patient as I have found that are Doctors who only allow 15 minutes. Was rushed through visit and out of office since it was almost time to close. Had questions about a serious issue and was brushed off with a referral. Also, good luck seeing the the same person twice. You go thinkg you'll see one person, end up with another. Very poor service and concern about patients.

I saw Dr. Tilak for the first time towards the end of 2016, and for the next year and a half all I saw were her nurse practitioners. I finally insisted on seeing her at my appointment, and told her I was unhappy with the situation. She launched into a lecture saying her practitioners were as good as doctors and claimed that she was no different from other primary care doctors in that they all had so many patients they couldn't possibly see them all. She said nothing would change and if I didn't believe that I was living in ignorance She also claimed that most doctors won't accept Medicare. I knew none of this was true, because I had talked to many other people. I easily found another primary care doctor with whom I can decide when I want to see her and when to see a nurse practitioner. She also accepts Medicare. Tilak also runs a diet clinic out of her office and I have seen her in the hallway with who I assumed were diet patients, and I still got a nurse. I guess the diet patients were more important than me who has a heart condition. And then there were the lengthy waits up to 45 minutes in the exam rooms. I am very glad to be dont with Dr. Tilak.

Very competent doctor. POORLY run office. Always running late, and I mean LATE. Waits vary but always long — in my experience up to two hours! And you are not informed of wait time, unless you ask and they’ll tell you you’re next every time!

Doctor Tilak might be a great doctor. I never met her, Each of my visits was with the nurse. my first visit cost me $344.00. I wanted to go to a doctor that was in my new insurance plan, this was a costly mistake. they did not get any of the records from my doctor of 20 years, I spent most of my HSA on doing test for conditions that I was allready being treated for . I have been on one med for about a year, my doctor and I adjusted the dose to better fit me. the nurse told me that my dose was too high. my friend tells me that doctor Tilak is a good doctor, she might be ,I never got to meet her. I returned to my other doctor, I was very dissatified with this practice.

Dresses totally inappropiately. Then doesn't listen. Mostly preaches about right and wrong. Uncaring and unprofessional. All this from my very first appointment.

I contacted the office to make a first time appointment specifically with Dr. Tilak; however when I arrived at my appointment I was told that I was seeing her nurse practitioner. I was upset that my appointment was scheduled with someone other than who I specifically asked for as a first time patient. However, I did like the nurse practitioner very much. The office staff was very rude in Schererville and they were gone well before my appointment was over so I couldn't make a future appointment with them. Other doctors' office staff NEVER leave until the last patient leaves.

I've had appointments schedule with Dr. Tilak, yet I was never able to see her only practitioner. They stated she had an emergency. The staff is nice yet they hardly pick up the phones and you leave messages and they never return the calls. Iâ??ve been there more than once always giving them the benefit of a doubt, but no improvements. They always try to schedule you at another location you do not want, my preferred location was Highland, but they always tried to send me to Whiting or Schererville, stating they did not have any openings till in a week or two.

After waiting over a hour and a half I still never seen the doctor they sent in someone else told me to come back in three months

I am all in all very pleased with the care I receive from Dr. Tilak and her staff. They are very thorough and intelligent.

Absolutely horrific experience....I had seen her last year & waited over 2 hours to be seen despite being 15 minutes early for my appointment. My appointment was a follow-up to get test results and they told me they never got them but then left the room and came back in 5 minutes later & said they were able to call the hospital and get the results (which I know is not true given that they were only gone for 5 minutes). They proceeded to tell me that despite the fact that I was having excruciating pain in my lower abdomen and was losing weight for no reason, I was perfectly fine. I ended up seeing another doctor and it turns out I have ulcerative colitis. The staff at Dr. Tilak's office was unfriendly & I could hear them yelling at each other outside the rooms both times I went to see her. I definitely don't recommend this practice unless you have no other options.

By far the worst doctor I have ever been to. My wait in the waiting room was very quick, but I waited over 45 minutes in the exam room. When Dr. Tilak came in, she spent very little time listening to me and spent half of OUR APPOINTMENT on HER CELL PHONE!!! I couldn't believe it! With my symptoms of extreme exhaustion and fatigue, she was convinced that I had narcolepsy and would not accept anything other than a night and day time sleep study. Needless to say I do NOT have narcolepsy, and now need a new doctor. I would not recommend anyone see her. She overcharges and runs completely unnecessary testing.
