Dr. Matthew Joel Kauffman, DO

Dr. Kauffman removed a benign tumor and I experienced an excellent outcome. His skills are outstanding! In addition to his excellence as a surgeon, he is kind and compassionate and treats his patients with the kind of care he would extend to his own family members. I also observed that he is generous with his knowledge and experience when interacting with medical students. He even gives his surgical patients a travel mug filled with mini candy bars as you leave. He smiles, he takes time with you, and he genuinely cares. I can't recommend him highly enough and would definitely seek him out for any future surgery.

I sustained a serious injury to my wrist - I broke both my ulna and radius. After my injury while lying in the ER bed with a severely deformed arm, I prayed that God would send me a good doctor that could help fix that horrible mess of an injury; I consider Dr. Kauffman to be an answer to my prayers, even above and beyond any of my expectations. He immediately fit me in for surgery, before which he explained everything completely & very clearly. He performed an ORIF of left wrist & carpal tunnel release. Went excellent. He even personally called my husband afterwards to give him details. Within 5 weeks post-op I had full range of motion & little if any pain! He treated me like a member of his family. You can feel completely confident with this guy. He’s the real deal.

I recently saw Dr. Kauffman for shoulder pain and loss of mobility. He tried other less invasive procedures before bringing up surgery as an option. After presenting his findings and explaining what surgery might be able to accomplish, he left the decision up to me without pressure. I opted to have the surgery (rotator cuff, partial tear of bicep tendon, arthritis). I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Four months later I feel I am 98% recovered with no pain.

I have been seeing Dr. Kauffman for years now. Most recently he did a knee replacement for me .He is very knowledgeable and takes his time in your appointment to explain things.. After years of treatment on my knee, a replacement was the last resort. He is a very caring Doctor and listens to your complaints

I went to Dr. Kauffman after having a lot of pain in my knee. Dr. Kauffman did a procedure on me called a micro fracture, which is drilling micro holes in your bone where you have missing cartilage to stimulate new cartilage growth.Dr. Kauffman explained the procedure in great detail in a couple different visits so I would know exactly what to expect. My recovery was rough but was told it would be which I appreciated and knew up front the approximate amount of time and pain I would endure. Dr.Kauffman and his staff treated me as a patient, but most importantly as a friend. I am 11 weeks out from surgery and walking with little pain and on my way to a full recover.

Dr. Kauffman is very friendly and courteous. He did a knee replacement for me and I have been completely satisfied with the results. He takes his time with you at your office visits and always seems to be concerned about your problem. You aren't rushed in and out of his office. I highly recommend Dr. Kauffman.

Dr Kauffman is an excellent physician. He is very attentive and spends time talking with me about my condition. I picked him based on all of the reviews I have read and I can see why everyone loves him!!

I am a survivor of a really bad automobile accident 17 years ago. I broke almost every bone south of my chest and was not expected to live from my injuries. I have had many interactions with doctors, nurse practitioners and other medical professionals over the years but few have come close to the level of care exhibited by Dr. Kauffman. He is engaged, interested, a great listener and is oriented toward relieving pain, increasing mobility and motivating those with physical issues to a higher understanding of their problems and the solutions available to them. I have been rushed by doctors to have operations that were not only unwarranted but totally unnecessary. Dr. Kauffman's approach places invasive surgeries as the last resort when strengthening, supportive, pain relieving options may provide relief to his patients. I trust his counsel, I appreciate his matter of fact approachability, his observations/treatments are based on interactive teamwork with his patients, not overbearing, profit oriented bluster. He is in the profession to give back and help his patients achieve a better quality of life. What a great doctor...:-)

I was experiencing symptoms that my primary Doc just wasn't addressing. While seeing Dr. Kauffman for my ongoing knee problems, I was telling him about this. He said, "I care to much about you, to have you drop dead in my parking lot." He proceeded to order a battery of tests at HVCH that ended up revealing that I had to have a double bypass in addition to a bleeding duodenal ulcer, and an anemic condition.

I was referred to Dr. Kauffman by the VA through the Veterans Choice program. Excellent knowledge and clear explanation of procedures and therapies needed. He ordered an MRI, what was needed, instead of just more x-rays. Friendly office staff and Physicians!!

Dr. Kauffman has performed 3 different surgeries on me (2 carpal tunnels and rotator cuff tare) over the last 4 years. I could not ask for any better care. Surgeries went very well. I healed very quickly (4 month on the rotator cuff) it was a complete tare from falling. I would recommend Dr. Kauffman and his staff to everyone. THANK YOU

Dr Kauffman and his staff are unbelievable people. I never had a problem thru my year and a half of working with him or his staff. The information they gave me pre and post surgery were highly accurate. I personally would recommend Dr. Kauffman for any ortho issues you may be experiencing.

Dr. Kaufman is an amazing doctor he has seen my whole family for a variety of reasons over the years we have been coming back for all our orthopedicorthopedic and surgery needs and referring him when anyone else we know needs an orthopedic specialist. Scott is an amazing doctor as well. Both have wonderful bedside mannermanner its a joy to see them in the office and they even help make surgery a pleasant as possible.

Dr.Kauffman and all of his staff were very helpful and always made me feel very comfortable at my visits to them .wait times at all my appointments were very minimal. The day of my shoulder surgery I was met by Dr.Kauffman met me there and explained again how the surgery was going to happen and assured me things would go good !! I will recommend Dr.Kauffman to all my friends and family . Thanks again Doc for the excellent job !!!!

This is an excellent Dr. had shoulder surgery with him. His bedside manner is fantastic and his whole staff knows you by name quickly. He has also treated my twisted ankle and right foot fracture without surgery. Also, his staff and he loves cookies!

The Doctor is an absolute miracle worker!!! I destroyed my foot, five months later I'm running!!!

Dr. Kauffman, I rotated with you the winter of my 4th year of medical school. You were an amazing teacher that really helped me grow in my understanding of orthopedics. I no longer have your email, but I wanted to tell you about a patient that you indirectly helped in a huge way!! I admitted a 7yo male that had severe knee pain with elevated inflammatory markers and fever, with a normal aspirate. On exam he had no motion of the lower extrem due to pain, however I could not ignore that the hip was in external rotation even though point tenderness was at the knee. I remembered your lesson of hip pathology and patterns of referred pain, and although nobody else thought this was hip pathology, I insisted on imaging. Finally my attending agreed and we found that he had a septic hip on that side. My kiddo is now in surgery and expected to do great because of the early diagnosis. Thank you for your help, because of your lesson I knew what to look for and stuck to my gut!! Thank you!! I appreciate your wilingness to teach!! You make a HUGE difference.
