Dr. Matthew David Oettinger, MD

I saw him to have a referral signed for my surgeon for weight loss surgery, indicating that I was healthy enough to have it, I was NOT their for his opinion. He said, "you know, there are other ways to lose weight, if you went on a diet, how much could you lose" Regarding being treated for a lifelong issue with depression, which I have overcome, he said it would preclude me from following the weight loss regime, then said, "you aren't bipolar or anything, are you"? He said he would call the surgeon (this was not needed) that week. He STILL hasn't even called or forwarded the referral. I sent him an email via his place of employment. Turns out it goes to his FORMER employer. I don't know how this doctor doesn't realize he isn't getting ANY messages!! He comes across as very cocky and condescending.

I've been really happy with Dr. O for the past 2 years he has been my doctor. I'm sad he's leaving but excited for him that he's got new things planned with UNC/Rex!

Dr. Oettinger has and continues to provide great service to me and my family. As with any physician his diagnosis is as accurate as the information provided by me or any other patient to him. He listens and that is important to me.

Listens and makes you feel like you are important and not just another number. Always a pleasure to talk to him and he always answers any questions I have.
