I am trying to find a good dermatologist for my mother & ran across this Dr. again! I myself saw her about 4 years ago & WILL NOT bring my mother to her. I agree with all the negative comments, wait time was unbelieveable for me too & then when I thought the staff was calling me in for my appt. they said they had to schedule a new one cause the doctor never came in!! I don't know if anyone noticed, but above the front desk is a paper that shows if you don't come for your appt. you have to pay $50 for missing it. Well I brought that up since the Dr. Tabas missed my appt & wasted my time waiting & driving there, she should reimburse me $50!! Never happened...
Took weeks to get in to see Dr. Tabas for an examination/consultation. Their automated system called 3 times to confirm my appointment beginning a week in advance. On my appointment date, waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes PAST my appointment time to get seen. Was told politely to "shut up" for proper blood pressure reading. Doctor barely examined me, was rude, LESS THAN zero bedside manner, curt, crude and offered no help for my situation. Was in the examination room less than 5 minutes. I didn't get to ask any questions or have any conversation whatsoever. Dr. Tabas is sem-retired. She has severe back issues preventing her from doing a lot of surgeries, anything waist down isn't going to happen. I left her office crying, she was so nasty mean...worst experience ever at a doctor's office.
Let me first start off by saying I left on good terms when I decided to leave, so this is not a slam campaign. Everything done here is to create as many appointments in a day, too many follow-up appt.'s and unnessecary ones at that, it is all about the money with her. SAD!!! She instructs her staff to basically do everything for her, including communicate with the patient sitting right in front of her, she acts like they aren't RIGHT there.."give him post biopsy instructions and have him call in a few weeeks for the results" I would think her bedside manner would be better after all these years but heck no!! When the laws about insurance changed and the cost for her surgeries were going to be slashed in half she found a way around it to get the max money even if her patient care would suffer, REALLY???? I could see what motivated her...money and money only, she doesnt care about the patients, just her paycheck. MOHS is a one day in-in office procedure, but when payments cut in half she decided if she left the wound open, YES open, not stitches just bandaged, she could get paid for entire new surgey if she closed the wound the next day!!!!! These poor patients we operated on went home with a hole in their faces so she could collect more money....AND she wont prescribe anything for pain, "take Tylenol" again REALLY? After seeing these horrible incidents and actions by the Dr. I knew it was time to move on, 100% of the way the staff operates is at her request, they are doing what they are told. Dont get me wrong, she knows her stuff, but if her patients get 60 seconds per appt. how do pull the info out of her??? You dont a nurse will tell you, which we did not go to Med school, and have different opinions on certain answers to questions. PLEASE do your research if you are going to see this Dr. you could be very disappionted and insulted
I had my first appt. with Dr. Tabas this morning and what a nightmare. She was extremely rude and acted as if I was an inconvenience to her. She spent little time examining me and did not address my concerns at all. Apparently she had better things to do with her time. What a total waste of time and money! If you're considering making an appointment with her...DON'T!
Strings our treatment with too many unnecessary visits. Will only schedule one small step in treatment per visit. Dr Tabas says HELLO on each visit; calls that seeing the doctor; therefore insurance pays more.
I just finished reading the reviews from as long ago as 2009, that's as far back as they go, and trust me nothing has changed.. Dr Tabas is very rude and treats her patients like we are a waste of her time.. I am wearing a scar on my face due to the negligence of her staff that kept telling me "it was NOTHING.." After I begged to have Dr Tabas look at it she removed what was Basil cell cancer all along.. I saw her again recently and she treated me like I was an idiot.. Looked at my rash and told me she saw NOTHNG.. Told me to see another doctor.. Wow.. Believe me, she will not be bothered with this family ever again..
I'm so disappointed after two visits (first exam, second biopsy) that I must share my experience. She barely says hello, makes no eye contact and rushes in/out as fast as possible. She never once asked if I had any questions for get when I had quite a few. She is very negative, I felt as though I was wasting her time. The nurses are all very kind but the front desk staff is as miserable as the doctor. Find someone who has less credentials but will spend more than 60 seconds with you.
This woman is by far the rudest individual I've had the misfortune to meet; not once did she acknowledge me by name, she gave instructions to her assistant to give to me! Hello. I'm sitting right here. Speak to me. People might say she is brusque. As far as I'm concerned she was just plain rude. She spent less than 5 minutes in the room with me and was not the slightest bit interested in what I had to say. A waste of money but more portantly a complete and totally negative experience.
I chose this practice after reading about outstanding doctors in the Orlando area. I was not disappointed. I have been visiting the office for over ten years, had cancers identified and removed several times. I plan to visit again next year for my annual exam. I would recommend this practice to anyone who wants the very best dermatological treatment.
Staff is extremely unorganized. Made an appointment, told I could download forms, got a voicemail next day confirming appointment time. Forms link not working, asked them to fax me forms. Never received forms. Voicemail confirmed appointment at a later time than I scheduled for, in spite of the fact that I went into great detail about missing work. I called to clear up the appointment time and was treated so rudely and unprofessional that I cancelled the appointment. They need to remember who the paying customer is. If anyone asks me to recommend a dermatologist, I will be sure to tell them who NOT to go to, especially after reading other reviews as bad or worse.
Dr. Tabas is a wonderful Dermatologist for identifing and treating skin cancer. I have been going to her for 20 years. She knows what needs a biopsy and what doesn't. The MOHS procedure is used and you leave her office knowing all of the cancer has been removed. No waiting for lab results later. Although she is busy at times and doesn't always spend as much time with the patient, if you have questions or concerns, she is always available to address them. She is very thorough in her work and extremely knowledgeable on the subject. I have battled with skin cancer for 25 years now and would not go to any one else. She knows her stuff!
I've never posted a review about a doctor, but my visit to her was simply unacceptable. Since I doubt she would care or change her approach, I find small comfort in posting here and warning others to avoid her.In short, she has no bedside manner; no desire to offer any information to a patient; no sense of care or concern.I went there to get her diagnosis of a white spot on my eyelid.First, she requires paperwork where she's almost asking for your firstborn. What's your occupation? What are your hobbies? What's your ethnicity? If a doctor wants to actually engage me in conversation about risk factors, I'm happy to have that conversation. But I'm not a robot who simply supplies this information to a person just because she has MD by her name. Her office also asks to make a copy of your driver's license (which I've never heard of). When I asked why, I was told it was to verify my identity. If that were true, couldn't the staff look at my license and see it was me... without making a copy?I declined to fill out the invasive part of the paperwork... and the first thing she did when she came in was to ask me to fill it out... which I did (with the help of a nurse she sent in after walking out). Once she actually granted me her time, she looked at the spot for about five seconds, said what it is, and immediately turned around to start filling out the paperwork. Silence. She was done. I had to ask her probing questions to find out more about the diagnosis and what could be done about it, but-- I do not exaggerate-- her answers were perhaps three or four words delivered with the most uninterested, unengaged, unhelpful demeanor. Words cannot describe how totally ... apathetic and odd she was. The bottom line: she said maybe I could get an esthetician to remove the spot. The entire exchange was maybe a minute to a minute and a half.Since I was there, I also asked her about a bump on my forehead. "Probably a cyst." Silence and more filling out the paperwork. Again, I had to bombard her with questions... to which I received incomplete sentences and a sense that I was wasting her time. Before she walked out, she told me I should consider myself lucky because she specializes in skin cancer. That statement was the icing on the cake. Clearly, her philosophy is that she does not waste time on patients unless they have cancer or are otherwise more interesting to her (despite her website which indicates the practice does everything, including cosmetic procedures). The entire visit with her lasted perhaps three minutes. I'm not sure of the exact amount my insurance company and I paid, but I estimate about $200-$300. Doctors like her are why we need healthcare reform.
I started seeing Dr. Tabas 20 years ago for Mohs surgery. I had been to several doctors in Nashville, where I live. They could not seem to get all of the cancer. Dr. Tabas was referred to my by a friend, so I flew down to meet her. She literally saved my life. I count my blessing for her every day and refer people to her whenever I get a chance. I continue to fly to Orlando to see her because she is the best, most compasionate, and skilled surgeon I have come across.
I came to Dr. Tabas for acne, and she told me that a long-lasting pimple was actually a mole. I'm not saying she is wrong or doubting her knowledge, but I was in shock. This "mole" used to be a whitehead... I don't know how a pimple could turn into a mole, but I trust the doctor. I am a young girl, and the thought of having a big permanent pimple-looking-mole on my cheek for the rest of my life is terrible. I started crying in her office, and she just shrugged and shunned me for not believing her. Then she told the nurse to give me prescriptions for acne medication for my other acne, and the medication had a lot of side effects. I know that there are other options when it comes to acne medication, and I wish she had shared to us those options first. She was with us for maybe 5 minutes. I left in tears, and got nothing out of the appointment. Also, she was late to see me in the first place (even though I arrived 30 min early). The only redeeming factor is that the check-out ladies were very nice. I am never going back.
EXTREMELY long wait time. office staff is nice but very unorganized. more one on one with the doctor would have been nice as well.
My dermatologist highly recommended Dr. Tabas for Mohs sugery for my nose. After 3 separate biopies, with inconclusive diagnoses, I went to Dr. Tabas and received an accurate diagnosis immediately. She was completely professional and knowledgable in handling my anxiety over my surgery. After 6 weeks post surgery, I am confident and happy with the results of my surgery. I totally recommend Dr. Tabas for Mohs surgery.
I am going to be as honest as I can about this woman so you can make an informed decision before you go to see her. Is she knowledgeable and can she perform the required surgery to rid you of cancer? The answer is yes. If you have cancer anywhere other than the face and you don't care what you look like when she's done, then go to her. If you have any kind of facial cancer and care about what you will look like when she's done then go to someone else. I had a rather small area to the left of my left eye and I asked that they let me see it before they bandaged it up and they complied. She said that she would not be able to close this area until the next day when she was more rested after a long day of back to back Moh's surgery and bandaged the area until the following day when I returned to have her perform something called a transitional flap. She cut me from my left eye towards my hairline about an inch and a half and then cut below my eye about two and half inches down my cheek. I now have a very noticeable scar down my cheek and when I went back to her to have a laser procedure that I was assured was no problem and could help me, she refused the procedure and told me to use a cream I paid $50.00 for that she informed me she didn't know if it would actually work. I was told that the visit would be an evalutation and that there would be no charge unless I actually had a procedure done and low and belhold I was sent a bill the next month for over $50.00 (part paid by insurance). When I called the office and complained about the bill the office manager said she would speak to Dr. Tabas about it and call me back. She never did and went ahead and billed me on my AMEX card which I had to present when I first went to her for surgery. The bottom line is that this woman is very moody, doesn't take the time to explain anything to you unless you ask a point blank specific question, doesn't care what you look like when she's done performing surgery and I would highly recommend that you seek medical care elsewhere. I have several other friends that have had Moh's surgery performed by other physicians near their eyes and they do not look anything like I do. I understand every surgery is different but I would encourage you to look elsewhere if you have any kind of skin cancer and would like someone to treat you like you actually matter and not a number. I notice that all the responses in here from her office are standard pat answers and that is a shame but from my experience apparently the norm.
I've been a patient of Dr Tabas for 10+ years & would never consider going to anyone else. The services she has performed for me have included, among other things, punch biopsies, treatment for an inflammatory skin disease, and cosmetic facial injections. She's extremely knowledgeable, highly skilled & quite compassionate. At one time, I'd had some facial filler injected by a local "dr" who did a brutally bad job, leaving my face misshapen. I went to Dr Tabas to see if anything could be done to help offset the deformities. It's strictly due to Dr Tabas's skill working with facial fillers/botox that my face is not only normal looking again, but is more attractive than I'd ever hoped it could become. It's no exaggeration when I state Dr Tabas has hugely improved the quality of my life. Personally? I can't thank her enough!
Dr. Tabas failed to have any follow up test, MRI or CT Scans, after Mohs Micro Surgery. As a result the Squamous appeared again and I was sent to M D Anderson, at my suggestion, not Dr. Tabas. She wanted me to see some Doctor in the Maitland or Altamonte area and later in the day received E-Mail for M D Anderson. Saw them immediately had extensive surgery on forhead and 30 radiation treatments. MD Surgeon had two brain MRI's done and a Thyroid MRI.Dr. Tabas never told me to have follow up MRI's or CT's and as a result, in my opinion, this failure has probably cost me my life as the cancer in now incurable, when with proper follow up testing it would very likeley have been cured and I would not be where I am now.Pretty sad state of affairs.
Dr. Tabas is the best derm in town. She explains everything well and she helped me with an issue missed by other derms.
