Excellent surgeon with a great bedside manner. Took his time to explain what he was going doctor (Cervical Fusion C4 C5 C6 C7. I had minimal pain afterwards and felt better than before. All I can say is that he is the best spine doctor I've had and. Would highly recommend him to anyone with spine disorders. Thank you so much to you and your team Dr Gerling. You were great and understanding and you made my experience with you a pleasure. You took all of my nervousness away and I went through the procedure with peace of mind because I knew I was in great hands.

DR. Gerling is a wonderful and understanding doctor. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, especially Sandra who is very attentive and caring. Katherine is also very helpful and courteous. Unfortunately Odis Tavarez was extremely unprofessional and rude with me. Tavarez needs to be retrained on customer service. The rest of the staff is top notch.

Dr. Michael Gerling performed an emergency 4 tier laminectomy fusion on me in March. Still in excruciating pain. He humiliated me in my other doctor's office and breached confidentiality as well as broke HIPAA laws by announcing the reason for my emergency surgery in front of a crowd who were there for physical therapy. Rated him on healthgrades...apparently doctors can pick and choose which reviews they want potential clients to see, as mine was deleted.

I am a cardiac nurse who works in an open heart ICU and have witnessed both the best and worst surgery has to offer. As a result, I tried every option available to me prior to having cervical spine surgery. I did my homework when it came to getting several opinions. I saw a well known and respected orthopedic surgeon and a well known and respected neurosurgeon prior to meeting with Dr Gerling. As soon as I met Him, and after discussing my case, I was fully confident I had found the best surgeon for me. His meticulous demeanor and meticulous approach to my case made me very confident that Dr Gerling was the best and only choice for me. He spent the time necessary discussing all of my issues and available options. After speaking with him, I was confident that surgery was the best answer. I knew exactly what to expect and although I also knew the risks involved he provided me a level of cofidence and comfort to proceed with the surgery. His office staff along with the staff at the surgical center are as kind and competent as he is. I am currently 2 weeks post op and everything went exactly as planned. At two weeks Post op I already see improvement. My fine motor skills have improved, my balance has improved and it is clear that my incision will be barely visible in a short time. I don't generally write reviews but I I am so impressed with the care I received that I can confidently recommend Dr Gerling as a spinal surgeon.

We were waiting for this appointment more than 1 month, than spend in the office more than 3 hours and never met this doctor!!!! He send young fellow, who said that we will meet dr. Gerling in the end of appointment... But it never happened! He went somwhere to check our MRI, after 40 min came back saying : Dr. Gerling and I reviewed your MRI and suggest you to do this and that... Definitely, Dr. Gerling was not interested to see us or was not even in the office... I would like to see who will receive the money for this appointment!!! Good job! And this is surgeon from NYU!!! OMG!

I recently had a Cervical fusion level 6-7.(accdent) Dr. Gerling explained that he would probably would fix a metal (screw) at C 5-6) For me i"m was going to have a big surgery, I trust Dr, Gerlings, and felt comfortable due to his vast pf knowledge. However I asked.. What do you think? that was related my age although I'm extremely healthy.."of course you will be fine" he said. I looked at him and told him I trusted him. I was very nervous, but after talking to him, I just pushed my chair back waiting to be call for my surgery, Compare the pain I have before the surgery, I have not pain,, I can walk better, I can move my beck shoulder to shoulder, I was lucky to have Dr, Gerking as my surgeon.. He listens and responds to all my concerns, and he gives hopes I'll be fine. God bless Dr. Gerlings ,

My review is long winded, but, I wanted to share how good an experience I've had in Dr. Gerling's care. I had had issues with 'throwing out' my back over the years which I invariably associated with overdoing it one way or the other. Then came the Saturday night where some lower back twinges escalated into a sciatica type attack that left me with a 'dead' right leg/foot (couldn't flex my foot) combined with excruciating lightening jolts of pain. I hate emergency rooms so waited til Monday to get to my internist, who in turn, referred me to Dr. Gerling. I was truly blessed in being referred to this gentleman. He's thorough in his examination(s) as well as explaining the nature of your problem and what options are available to you. He encourages patients to research their condition and has no problem whatsoever in answering a patient's questions. He's thorough in keeping your other doctors informed about his examination and suggested treatment route. He not only telephoned my internist to discuss my case, he also forwarded full reports to him as well. He's also upfront about potential risks and that you'll have quite a bit of post-surgical pain (he likened it 'you'll feel like a horse kicked you' and it truly did, but, he made sure medication orders addressed my pain levels well). My only option was surgical based on the severe neurological involvement where I couldn't walk well, stumbled/fell, couldn't drive, couldn't do normal chores easily, etc., etc. - I had a minimally invasive fusion of L5-S1 with decompressions, hemilaminectomies of L4-5, L5-S1 with a spacer placed since I'd blown one disc completely out and was bone on bone. This was compressing my S1 nerve to the degree that my right leg couldn't/wouldn't work. My surgery was a bit complicated and took over 4 hours instead of the orignal 2 hours that was estimated. Within hours, my leg began to 'come back' with improvements to strength. I was his first surgery that day, he had at least 1-2 additional cases that day, BUT, he made sure to come see me that evening at 9 PM! He also taught me how to get out of bed and on a walker! This man had started his day at about 5 AM and cared enough to come see me that night though he must have been exhausted. The next morning, he came to see me again at about 8:30 AM on his way in to his office! How many doctors do this -not many in my experience. The nurses were amazed as well, since most surgeons do their job and the next time a patient will see them is on post surgical office visits. I went home wth a cane which I was able to stop using in about 2 weeks time, I also was able to stop prescription pain meds around the same time. I'm a few years out now from my surgery and am left with a tiny bit of numbness in my foot which really dosen't affect my ability to move and do things. I'm back to full activity with no limitations and am so very thankful for Dr. Gerling's help.

The receptionist was prompt to answer my call, intelligent, caring, and very patient. She did a lot of leg work for me to ensure that my insurance would be accepted and called me back immediately. I made an appointment for two weeks from today, and i am very excited to see him based on his background information and training. Although i haven't seen Dr. Gerling yet, I would hazard a guess that the only other rating for this doctor is biased, possibly from a drug seeker, or someone who holds a grudge against the practice because my small experience with his staff was very pleasant and seems promising. I will give an updated rating after my visit, but i felt that my input was sorely needed after reading the one, potentially misleading review. I look forward to giving a brief review post-appointment, to hopefully set the record straight and give him a fair review. Thank you, vitals!
