Dr Michael Edward Janssen

Mr. Janssen is no professional (not using dr. because it makes true MDs look bad). He prostitutes himself to insurance companies for BIG $$$. Shame on you sir! Because he took my case, I became a patient. He 'diagnosed' me w/o ever meeting me and w/o even viewing my imaging, causing me and my loved ones, harm. You violate the very oath you took! You are a disgrace!

The staff and the doctor are all very nice and knowledgeable.

Janssen did a fusion surgery on my spine in 2001. And the nightmare began! I was left in horrible pain for the last 8 years (2019 now). Since then I have met 4 people he operated on, only 1 was successful, the remaining 4 of us live in terrible pain daily. In addition, the imaging staff across the street at North Suburban Hospital, do not think highly of this man, one of them said they would not let Janssen operate on them if he were the last surgeon on earth. I asked why and was told he is the most arrogant individual they had even met, which was also the impression I got. He seemed to care more about his half-million dollar speed boat than his patients. I would never allow this man to operate on me again!

Very comfortable to speak to, excellent job explaining the situation and upcoming procedure in a way that anyone can understand! Outstanding in assuring both my spouse & myself that I would be in the very best care available!

His skill and bedside manner surpasses any back surgeon out there. When no other dr could diagnose me he did. He looks at the whole picture when deciding on a diagnosis.

He is a crook. Wanted to charge me $800 to speak to my insurance to help get the surgery approved. He only cares about money. His office called me for a $3000 deposit saying they are out of network after I specifically asked and told yea they were. He yells at his staff and I waited over an hour each time.

I met with Dr. for my diagnosis. I saw him before my surgery, but have not seen him since. He does have a very good assistant that assisted with the surgery and I have seen her multiple times since. Very caring, very easy to speak to, very helpful with medication, etc. I have heard of many others that have had the same surgery I did, but with different doctors that have not had the successful recovery that I have. I was very impressed with his knowledge and genuine caring attitude. He also did surgery on my husband, less intrusive, and we would recommend him highly to anyone who needs spinal surgery.

I have been going to see Ruth at The Center for Spinal Disorders for about 10 years. She is very caring and compassionate and she has helped me and I appreciate her. Dr. Janssen is a very good surgeon and has built a thriving and efficient practice. I have referred several people to them and I will continue to do so.

I was referred to Dr. Janssen for a cervical spine issue. Dr. Janssen spent a great deal of time with me reviewing the tests, making sure I understood the diagnosis, and the options. Once the decision for surgery was made by me, Dr. Janssen and his staff immediately began the process of approvals from the insurance company and the scheduling. Dr. Janssen recognized the extreme amount of pain I was experiencing and expedited the surgery to the soonest time we both were available. Dr. Janssen's nurse practitioner Ruth was instrumental in getting everything ready. The surgery took place in the adjacent surgery center. Every single person that I met for the entire process was professional and caring, and listened to what I wanted/needed.

Ruth Beckham (NP) is the provider I primarily have seen over the last 3 years. She works closely with Dr Janssen and provides excellent, competent care in a very empathetic manner. She takes all the time needed to answer my questions and address my concerns. She is prompt to get back to me via staff or email with questions also. Highly recommend her for all primary spine needs and Dr Janssen for the actual surgeries.

I have been a long time patient of Dr. Janssen, because of ongoing degenerative spine processes. While Dr. Janssen himself spends little time with his patients anymore (he is VERY busy as a surgeon), he has an incredibly talented, competent and knowledgeable staff that are more than well suited for the clinical and diagnostic portions of the experience. I feel like family when I am there...admittedly I am biased because he has been my spine doctor for 15 years. It all boils down to the fact that he, and his staff, are the only orthopedic spine specialists that I would let anywhere near my spine.

I have been seeing Dr. Janssen for roughly 4 to 5 years, he was referred to me by Dr. Leimbach which both of these gentlemen are top notch. Dr. Janssen may make you wait in the waiting area or in your room for a significant amount of time but there are reasons for that, he is probably in another room with a patient because he likes to make sure you understand the procedures he is about to perform and getting his point across and will not walk away until you do understand. This is why you wait for him because he cares. I have had 2 neck surgeries on C5 C6 and one back surgery on L5 S1 from Dr. Janssen and they were all a success. When going into surgery I will admit I was scared anytime you deal with the spinal cord and or spine it is a risk but his bed side manors made me feel comfortable and eased my mind I now when I was wheeled into surgery I had the right guy by my side. Janssen is a class act along with his nurse Practitioner Ruth Beckham the two of them make an exceptional team that I would recommend to any one. Ruth has been by my side many times and I wouldn't want any one else standing next to him then her. Thank you both for your professionalism along with the fun we have during my visits it helps deal with the problems at hand.

I was struck by how much time Dr. Janssen spent with me on the initial visit (over 75 minutes) explaining my options and answering my questions. The procedure went as planned and I am having an excellent recovery seven weeks after the surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Jannsen for any one considering disk fusion or disk replacement. He is the best!

After visiting with several surgeons for my lumbar spine, I met with Dr. Janssen. He was very knowledgeable and to the point. I felt very comfortable with his definitive answers to my questions. He was one of the few surgeons who was willing to talk about an artificial disc replacement. Before I left the office, I booked my appointment for a fusion and an artificial disc replacement and never had any doubts. Surgery was booked within a month. 4 months out from surgery, I cant be happier. No problems and no more pain. Dr. Janssen is amazing and I would highly recommend him to anyone contemplating back surgery!!

He is a wonderful doctor. His staff is great. He did a wonderful job on my back. I wouldn't go to anyone else for a back injury!

Dr. Janssen came highly recommended by several individuals. I found Dr. Janssen and his entire staff to be very thorough and took the time to answer all of my questions so that when I walked out I was totally comfortable with the decision on my treatment. I ultimately ended up needing surgery and was completely satisfied with the end results. The surgery was easy and the recovery has been painless. The scar is almost non-existent due to the skill and time that Ruth Beckham N.P.-C spent closing the incision. I have recommended Dr. Janssen and his staff to other individuals that I know.

Dr. Janssen is a great surgeon, he troughs no punches he tells it like it is. He gives you all the information you need for surgery and lets you know it your decision to proceed.

I believe that Dr. Janssen's office has some unethical practices. His assistants and nurse are out of the net work of all insurance company (that is clear from the form they give you just before the surgery when you are in pain and in urgent need for their help) and they tell you that the doctor needs an assistant for the surgery, so you end up paying that assistant out of your pocket. So they force their nurse and assistant on you because you are in need for their help. In other words, they take advantage of your while you are in pain and need their help. I believe that the doctor is the one responsible to pay his nurse or assistants not the patient. In my opinion this type of practice is unethical and must be stopped. In addition, the doctor's finance person is a women with very bad attitude, even if you get an OK person to talk with, you end up again with that bad attitude women. All the time except the first visit, you go to see the doctor, you end up seeing an assistant or a nurse. Moreover, to see the doctor, you have to wait more than an hour inside of one their exam rooms. The doctor could be experienced but careless and always rushes everything even during a surgery, so you end up needing another surgery because he does not wait enough to make sure that the first surgery is good enough before closing the wound. I would not recommend this practice to anybody.

He ruined my life....I don't need my hand held, I don't need a babysitter. My first surgery was great the other two he went so fast he missed the mark the second time and time 3 completely disabled me. I have a new Spinal Specialist and LOVE HIM!! Have been with him for 1 1/2 almost 2 years!~ Suit yourself.....if you don't care about your spine or working....go ahead...see him. Love his PA.. She is great!
