Dr. Slater in a phenomenal doctor. I have gone to him for years, and my husband will be going for a visit, soon. He attended Duke University, so you will be getting a “highly qualified’, and caring doctor in Austin, Texas. Everything is a 5 star, as the entire process is positive. His staff is helpful and their time management skills are excellent, so you won’t be sitting a long time waiting to be seen by Dr. Slater. In addition he is a family doctor, too. A+

I was originally happy when I found Slater, because for the first time I had a doctor diagnose my CSF leak. But prior to surgery, he only did one CT scan which was inconclusive and did not show any definitive issue area. Nevertheless he recommended surgery based on what he thought was causing my issues. I was a little apprehensive and called the office twice before surgery to make sure I didn't need any other type of imaging done, and they assured me that they knew where the problem was and surgery would only help me. Felt okay after surgery, and Dr Slater even came in the day after surgery acting happy and showed me a video of my brain he took on his phone during surgery (not sure how I feel about that). After surgery I started developing worse symptoms, which he kept assuring me would get better over time. I kept getting worse, and the original issue was still there. He sent me for a lumbar puncture with blood patch, and I wasn't sure why since my leak was cranial, and even the radiologist thought I should have been having a cisternogram. I had a few appointments after that, to which he said the new issues I had (I had SCDS) would resolve in time (the only fix for SCDS is surgery!), and said things like "I can't figure you out." I continued to get worse, and At my last appointment he decided to cauterize my adenoids, which did nothing for me except put me in unnecessary discomfort. I have since found new doctors who just performed a craniotomy for my SCDS and confirmed that there was a huge defect from the surgery Slater did that was causing my issues.

Dr. Slater removed an acoustic neuroma from my left ear in 2015. I am now totally deaf in that ear, and I have significant paralysis on the left side of my face. On my last follow up visit with him (around 6 months post-op) I asked what solutions/treatments were available for the paralysis and he said we should botox the 'good' side of my face to match the droopy side. No way did I want that, so I never went back to him. Now, for a different situation, I'm working with a neurosurgeon who was horrified to hear this. My facial paralysis could have been fixed with a nerve graft, but it has to happen soon after the initial surgery and of course now it's too late. NEVER go to Dr. Slater!

I visited this practice upon recommendation. My experience with Dr. Slater's practice was misleading, extremely disappointing, as well as unprofessional. I provided a copy of this review to the office. Barely touching the surface: my patient pay portion was misrepresented to me in re: vestibular testing by Ms. Cleve, my complaint re: billing was not handled well, and I was never contacted to schedule a follow up appointment after the testing, which the Audiologist told me would happen, the P.A., Andrew, saw me in the exam room first, later followed by Dr. Slater, which caused confusion when gathering information from me to Andrew and Dr. Slater. Further, at one point after Dr. Slater entered the exam room and while we were talking, Dr. Slater excused himself saying, "Let me be sure Andrew and I are on the same page", and left to find Andrew. This should concern any patient. To be told that a follow up appointment is next in order and then to receive a bill instead of the phone call to schedule is outrageously shocking as well as negligent.

Success of surgeries short lived??

For three years, I was a medical orphan. We went from doctor to doctor (15 in all) trying to figure out what was causing me to suddenly come down with daily severe migraines, debilitating sound sensitivity, photophobia so bad I couldn’t leave the house, and a host of other mysterious symptoms. My husband and I visited doctor after doctor. No one could figure out what was wrong with me. I was frightened and desperate, and getting worse by the day. Then we came to Dr. Slater and Dr. Andrew Clark, who came highly recommended by a friend. From the moment the office visit started, my husband and I had hope. They are so thorough in taking a history, in going over radiology scans, in playing detective to try to figure out hard cases like mine. We did several rounds of initial testing, which didn’t turn up an answer. But Dr. Slater and Dr. Clark sat in the room with me and my husband, discussing hypothesis, asking if we’d be willing to try another route. More testing, more ideas… and then, two months after that initial visit, Drs. Slater and Clark along with an awesome Interventional Neuroradiologist at ARA determined that I had a cerebrospinal fluid leak causing intracranial hypotension, a rare disorder that affects only 5 out of every 100,000 people. After three years, we finally knew what was really wrong with me and how to treat it. In addition to being smart and thorough, I can’t say enough how important to me it is that Drs. Slater and Clark were so kind. Everyone in their office treats you with compassion and dignity, and I will always be grateful that they were able to help me.

Dr. Slater's skills is what brought me to him. He gave me options and described in detail what could be done. His entire staff is friendly and helpful. Average wait time 10-15 minutes. The P.A.'S are great!!!

Professional staff really got the information needed and Dr. Slater was very through in his exam & made a diagnosis in a reasonably short time.

Dr. Slater has treated me for allergies and hearing loss for 5 plus years now and he is the best! I recommend him to anyone I know that could use an otolaryngologist!

Dr. Slater literally gave me back my life. I had a stapedectomy done four years ago by another doctor and from day one something wasn't right. Dr. Slater found and fixed the problem and I hear great. I highly recommend him!!!

I've seen Dr. Slater for the last 12 years. I've never had any issues with him or his staff. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. I highly recommend him to friends and family for any and all ENT/Allergies problems.

I was beyond impressed with my experience at Austin Ear Clinic when I saw Dr. Slater . My first contact was with Robert and I was completely blown away by how helpful and kind he was and how fast he was at getting back to me! A lot of doctors donâ??t realize how important it is to have administration like Robert. The first point of contact is crucial! Dr. Slater is rude and arrogant. He may be skilled, but his bedside manner is the worst. I will not return.

I have had Dr. Slater as my hearing and sinus doctor since I moved here 6 years ago. He has been great, he is straight forward and always has an answer to my questions with an explanation of what he wants to do and why. I would recommend him to any of my friends and family.

I found these guys on the internet, they were easy to use and did a great job fitting my hearing aid.

Dr. Slater has been a great doctor for me. He is a very good doctor so the wait can be a couple of weeks but I expected that sense he so good at what he does. I went in with tinnitus and sinus problems and he has been straight forward with me and told me what options I had without pushing me on any of them. I will keep Dr. Slater as my hearing and allergy doctor for as long as he is around Austin.
