Dr. Raymond Isaac Haroun, MD

I was referred to Dr. Haroun a long time ago when I couldn’t get any pain relief for my back from other Doctors who specialize in Spine/Spinal surgery. When I first started to have back pain, under other spine specialist’s care, I tried steroid shots, physical therapy and that did not work well or last long. I was finally referred to Dr Haroun for further management. Even though I was already frustrated and started to feel like I would just have to live with the pain, I decided to contact Dr Haroun. THE BEST DECISION I have ever made- I have now referred him to my family (who see him for their back issues- driving from the Eastern shore and Rockville) and co workers, who also live from other places around the area. Not only does he have GREAT bedside manner, he explained things so I understood what was going on with my back and also gave me options with explanations that included me in his plan of care for my treatment. If I had a fear, he validated it and didn’t brush it off like some do. He even told me he would try to save the tattoo on my back :). I don’t think most spine surgeons would even think about something like that (which I thought he did a great job doing!) After the surgery, he personally called me himself (I was still post op and asleep) but then called my husband to check up on me, which meant a lot. Fast forward post op, I feel like a totally new me. I am able to bend down and get up without holding my back. I am able to start running around with my kids and running for myself without feeling like my back will break. I ran a half marathon and had no issues with my back. Before, I couldn’t even bend down or walk long periods of time without holding my back after a while and then icing it. He did an amazing job with the surgery and I can barely see the scar. This is such a long review because I can’t say enough about this practice. Everyone in this practice is great- the PAs are excellent, the front desk staff are kind and extremely helpful. I will continue to go to Dr. Haroun for any issues I have for my back and will continue to refer him to everyone because I think everyone really deserves to feel some relief from any spinal/back pain and/or injury, which is why this practice is the one I adamantly recommend through and through. In addition, the PAs (Madison and Julian), are also excellent (I’ve repeated this, I know). If there was ever a time Dr Haroun couldn’t see me that particular day, I was just as content seeing the PAs because the entire practice seems to work as a team. Thanks Dr. Haroun & Team!

I was impressed from the first appointment that was right on time. It was made clear to me what my options were and what i could expect. The surgery and recovery went exactly as predicted. 4 days after surgery I was able to walk, and go up and down stairs without any pain, The only minor discomfort was the itching at the incision as it healed. The surgery was to relieve pressure on the lumbar area nerve that was causing intense pain to my right leg that prevented me from walking or standing for more than a few minutes at a time. as stated above i no longer suffer from that condition. I also want to compliment the office staff for their cheerfulness and willingness to help me with scheduling and with providing me with answers to my questions. Bottom line is Dr. Haroun and his staff made the entire process easy and pleasant.

The very first doctor I saw for my back injury 15 months ago indicated surgery may be necessary at some point. I remember laughing out loud and thinking no way that is ever going to happen. Well all these months later after trying all the recommendations including steroids, physical therapy, multiple injections manual physical therapy, yoga, chiropractic care, you name it, I was lucky enough to be referred to Dr. Haroun. Surgically you will not find anyone more skilled. Then add his wonderful personality and availability to his patients and you will not find a better combination. If you work with Dr. Haroun and Megan there is no reason to be afraid of back surgery. Get your life back, I am so happy that I did.

The thought of a fusion at C5 & C6 scared the heck out of me. It was something that had to be done and Dr Haroun and Megan, PA, are by far the best choice in a surgeon that I could of made. They were the 4th surgeon that I consulted with, they listened to me and thoroughly reviewed my history in great detail, from there we developed a plan. Today I have NO pain and the surgery was exactly what was discussed with Dr Haroun and Megan, HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR HAROUN AND MEGAN AND THE SURGERY!!!!

After injections,PT, medications to relieve pain, I've spoken to the PA, and Dr. Haroun about surgical intervention. Anticipate surgery the end of the month, after PMD, and Cardiologist do pre op assesments. I would like to report after my surgery. At this time I am very reassured improvement will occur. I'm following the instructions til then.

I had a bulging disk hitting the sciatic nerve, L5-S1. The pain was debilitating. Had to make several trips to ER for severe pain shooting down my leg. I couldn't even walk. Finally went to see Dr. Haroun for consultation. He is very nice, easy to talk to, and down to earth. Like talking to a friend. We went over options and tried some alternative options for treatment. He never pushed surgery as a first option. After trying other treatments that didn't alleviate the pain, I opted for surgery. I had the out patient surgery at Maryland Specialty Surgery Center, which is immaculately clean with the latest equipment, and top notch staff. Better than a hospital. Dr. Haroun is a very experienced, smart, most skillful, experienced neurosurgeon. You will find no better. He has done thousands of surgeries. As I walked out of the Surgery center, I could tell that the pain was gone. Five days after surgery, the surgery pain was gone. A week later there is absolutely no pain from surgery or the debilitating sciatic pain. Dr. Haroun is a miracle worker. Just like that, no pain. After a bicycling injury, I experienced crippling pain down my right leg that was diagnosed as lumbar stenosis. Steroid injections and physical therapy provided some relief, but even small back strains would send me back to walking with my upper body tilted to the left to avoid the leg pain. I investigated surgery after a year. Dr. Haroun was recommended by the doctor who performed the spinal injections. I found Dr. Haroun to be extremely thorough in his investigation of the problem, and more conservative in his surgical recommendations than another surgeon I met. Finally, two years after the injury, I underwent microdecompression surgery by Dr. Haroun. The improvement was immediate and dramatic. I can walk upright again without pain, and am looking forward to resuming my normal active life.

Dr. Haroun is one of the best doctors I have ever had. I was told no one would operate on me because I was diabetic. Dr. Haroun looked at my history and determined that he could. After 20 years of suffering, I finally have relief! His bedside manor is excellent. My husband was impressed with him as well. He called the day I went home just to see how I was doing. I had sciatica that did not resolve even after PT and injections. The pain was intense and I knew I needed a higher level of intervention. I was referred to Dr. Haroun by my PCP and my orthopedist. I was nothing short of dazzled during my first visit. Megan Sisbarro, PA-C, did a thorough exam detailing what she was doing throughout. Dr. Haroun then came in with a big smile and strong handshake and repeated the exam. He has a calm and commanding presence and I knew that I was in good hands. He and Megan conferred and then he presented me with my options. After choosing surgery, he sat and explained the procedure, recommended some videos to further my education, delved into the risks, and answered my questions thoroughly. The procedure was successful, thankfully, and he and his staff have remained totally available in the event questions arise during the recovery. The office staff is incredibly efficient and they are delightful as well. Everyone involved made me feel valued. I cannot recommend Dr. Haroun highly enough.

I had been dealing with painful degenerative disc on the left side of my neck for approximately 2 yrs. I sought therapy, dry needling and chiropractor for relief. Well, around Feb 2018 the pain became unbearable to the point where I just wanted to chop my arm off due to the excruciating pain triggering down my left arm. I was referred to Dr. Raymond Haroun by my primary doctor. My primary doctor's review and feedback was so positive towards Dr. Haroun that it gave me confidence that I would be in "good hands". After making my appointment both Dr. Haroun and Megan Sisbarro, PA-C consulted with me. They were so pleasant, reassuring and informative when discussing my condition and providing me my options. Admittedly, I was nervous and a little reluctant when we discussed corrective surgery. However, I can't express enough how I'm glad I move forward with the C5-C7 fusion surgery. I think I did pretty good with my recovery and no longer having pain triggering down my arm....so for that I'm very thankful! .Dr. Haroun, Megan Sisbarro, PA-C and the staff at Maryland Spine and Brain Specialist Center were an excellent team with the execution of service!

20 year ago I injured my lower back rebuilding a old stone wall. I was bed ridden for 2 weeks then gradually I adjusted to walking over the next year. Chiropractors helped for short periods but after manual labor my lower back would grab me especially when I got up from sitting. I avoided the doctor for fear of making it worse hearing too many bad stories of surgeries in the 1990's. Recently two of my church friends praised Dr. Haroun for having miracle hands that healed their backs. To my surprise Dr. Haroun also has a BSEE in electrical engineering like myself and understood my questions. In addition MRI imagery has now advanced to a point where spinal injury can readily be seen, there is no more guess work as in the past. My surgery was done as an out patient and took 2 hours where I walked to the car. I liked that it was not done in a germ filled hospital but a dedicated spine facility. It has been 2 months since the surgery and I still feel great. Why did I wait so long? Thank you Jesus and thank you Dr. Haroun.

I can't recommend Dr. Haroun enough! I suffered from debilitating sciatic pain and tried every treatment option out there but nothing worked. Two months ago Dr. Haroun performed a discectomy and I have been PAIN FREE ever since! Not only is Dr. Haroun a skilled surgeon but he surrounds himself with a top-notch staff. Everyone at his surgery center is amazing. I am back to work and back to running my kids around to all of their activities. Normalcy never felt so good!

He lacks tone and professionalism. With my first visit, I expected full explanation and greeting but all I got was a simple what's going on with you. Not a friendly person at all.
