Dr.Rebecca Yu is a left-handed, Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, with a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Hand Surgery. Her practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal and neurovascular conditions of the elbow, wrist and hand in both children and adults.Dr. Yu was born in New York City and grew up in a Chinese-American home in Connecticut. She attended Stanford University, earning degrees in Art History and Biology, and went on to medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago. She completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center on New York City’s west side (under the tutelage of Dr. Steven Glickel and Dr. Richard Eaton) before heading to Philadelphia for subspecialty fellowship training in Hand Surgery. There, at the Philadelphia Hand Center, she had the privilege of training with hand surgery giants such as Dr. Larry Schneider, Dr. Lee Osterman, and Dr. Scott Kozin. After completing her training, Dr. Yu
opened a successful and thriving private practice in Berkeley in 2004. She moved to Kaiser in Oakland/Richmond in 2011 to provide a more stable schedule for herself and her daughter. After 4 years in the Kaiser system, a second child, and a wedding, Dr. Yu has returned to private practice in Berkeley where she feels she can better serve her patients.Dr. Yu has been trained in, and practices all aspects of upper extremity surgery, including fracture care, tendon and nerve repair, wrist arthroscopy, nerve decompression, pediatric hand care, and more. Her office offers fluoroscopy and ultrasound services, which may save patients a trip to obtain X-rays or even an MRI. Her surgeries are performed at Alta Bates Hospital or at The Surgery Center of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Oftentimes, procedures can be performed right in the office. In order to stay up to date on hand surgery and orthopaedic advances, Dr. Yu attends several professional conferences throughout the year. She is also a member of a tight-knit hand club of 30 hand surgeons that meets annually to share knowledge and insights. She meets monthly with a group of local hand surgeons to do the same. Her network of contacts within the hand surgery world is extensive, allowing for easy and accessible camaraderie.Recognizing the privileges we have that are often taken for granted, including the use of 2 dextrous hands, Dr. Yu participates in volunteer activities, offering care and treatment for conditions of the upper extremity to those who might not otherwise have access to such care. You can read about her volunteer activities on her blog www.yumd.blogspot.com. She is eagerly looking forward to her next trip, and to taking her children with her in order to open their eyes to a bigger world.

Ensuring Data Transparency and Trust: A Guide to Vitals Doctor Listings and Reviews

Our provider data is gathered directly from physicians and publicly available databases. Providers who verify their profiles gain the ability to update information, offering additional details about their specialties, education, treated conditions, performed procedures, and accepted insurances.

Reviews on Vitals are submitted by users only. Recognizing the valuable insights these reviews offer into a doctor's reputation, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Importantly, providers cannot delete or alter reviews independently. Reviews can only be deleted or changed following an internal assessment by our customer service team.

Your feedback is highly valued and we encourage you to contact our support team should you encounter any issues.
