Dr. Richard Scott Nachwalter, MD

Highly recommend Dr. Nachwalter. He has a great bedside manner and really takes into consideration your wishes to correct your injury/condition. Making the decision to undergo a surgery is a difficult decision, but he works with you on every step to help you make the right decision either way. Having surgery on my herniated discs is the best decision I made. He did a fantastic job on my surgery, as well as my incision. I am pain free and the recovery time was faster and more comfortable than I imagined. I am healing and returning to normal beautifully because of Dr. Nachwalter's great care.

Dr. Nachwalter is a master surgeon, a straight-shooter, and one who demonstrated genuine concern for my sciatica issues. Surgery and recovery went exactly as he said it would, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. His entire staff are professional and pleasant. Highly recommended!

Dr. Nachwalter, including all of his medical team, made navigating surgical options for my back pain much easier than most other healthcare experiences I've had. He was upfront and honest about the risks and benefits of the procedure, he (or his medical team) was available for multiple follow-up calls due to concerns I had, and he made every effort to explain the procedure in simple to understand language. Following the laminectomy (I had severe disc degeneration of my lumbar spine), I was almost immediately feeling better and able to start doing the things I love again (fishing, cutting firewood). Very thankful for his service and support and would highly recommend a consultation with him if you have back pain.

If I could leave more stars I would. I injured my lower back in the beginning of October. PT, and pain management didn’t work. The pain ended up going down my right leg into my foot. I couldn’t drive or sleep without terrible pain. surgery was the last thing I wanted to do but, Dr Nachwalter and his staff was so helpful, understanding, and thorough. I had surgery at the end of November and I couldn’t be happier. The pain was instantly gone, after 2 months of taking it easy, in back to my old self again

Dr. Nachwalter performed surgery to fix my L5-S1 herniated disk. I came to him after spending 2 months trying to manage the pain with medication, PT and multiple cortisone shots but none of this resolved the issue. Dr. Nachwalter was prompt and professional and was able to schedule me for surgery shortly after my initial visit. I'm very pleased with my progress and have seen a big reduction in my pain level. I'm going to go a few weeks of PT to hopefully improve mobility and further reduce some lingering discomfort. Overall I'm very pleased that I opted for surgery and wish I'd done it sooner.

Dr. Nachwalter performed lumbar fusion surgery on me six weeks ago. Before the surgery, I had terrible leg pain that prevented me from walking. Now I am walking two miles a day, without any of the pain that had plagued me for years. Professionally, I have worked with many surgical teams, and I can say that the care I received from Dr. Nachwalter and the clinical professionals at Morristown Hospital was top-notch. Dr. Richard Nachwalter is a gifted and talented surgeon who performed my back surgery over 21 years ago. I recently had to make an appointment with him expressing a new concern and he was nothing but kind, compassionate, informative, and thorough. His foremost thought was my well being and immediately formulated a care plan for my condition, which only needed physical therapy. I highly recommend Dr. Nachwalter as a spine specialist.

Dr. Nachwalter did an amazing job correcting an issue with my spine that was impacting my foot and the way I walked. I felt immediate relief for the condition and the strength and control over my foot has gotten better every day. I feel that I will make a full recovery!

Excellent care! Within 30 min of a phone call from another Dr. I was seeing, I was sitting in Dr. Nachwalter's office. I was suffering from severe pain, weakness in my left leg and drop foot. The months prior to my visit had been miserable. Dr. Nachwalter listened to my concerns, provided a thorough examination, took his own X-rays in office and within 15 minutes provided a diagnosis which was an L4-5 disc herniation which, he would find, was pressing on the nerve root. In less then 2 weeks I was scheduled for surgery . Surgery was a complete success. The pain was immediately gone when I woke up. I am 6 weeks post-op and still under his care until I can resume normal activity. I owe him a debt of gratitude for undoubtedly giving me back a pain free life.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Nachwalter and his staff. I was very nervous to have neck surgery but the second I met Dr. Nachwalter I felt at ease. The surgery went great and I feel 100% better. I had a C-6 disc replacement done and everything worked out great thanks to Dr. Nachwalter and his staff.

Dr. Nachwalter and his staff were fantastic! I had been in pain on and off for 25 years and my pain got much worse in the last 3 years. Dr. Nachwalter listened to me as I told him my symptoms and he gave me my options. We decided to go ahead with the laminectomy surgery and fix the L5 S1 disc problem. When I woke up from the surgery all my pain is gone!! My healing process was quick and simple. Dr. Nachwalter did a phenomenal job on me and gave me my life back! I feel like I am 25 again! Dr. Nachwalter was fantastic! I had a herniated C 6/7 disc and he was confident and knowledgeable about my condition and what my best option was. His office staff was kind, caring and efficient. I was fortunate to get on Dr. Nachwalter's surgery schedule and this was because of his staff's hard work and caring nature. An overall EXCELLENT experience with Dr Nachwalter, his office staff, and especially the post-op care received at Morristown Memorial Hospital! As a nurse myself, I was very impressed by everyone involved in my care! From the Dr Nachwalter, the awesome nurses ,and nurses aides, who made me feel I was their only patient, dietary, to the super supportive physical therapy staff! The care I received was definitely 5-Star!!! The staff of Dr Nachwalter went above and beyond, even during this difficult time we’re currently living in. Sooo Thankful!

I visited Dr Nachwalter 3 days after rupturing my L3 disc. He gave me a professional review and his opinion, I already had two other opinions. A few days later I returned to his office where his staff was able to set up mu surgery in 3 days. My surgery gave me 80% instant relief. Dr Nachwalter called me on ,y cell the afternoon of my operation. He was very positive in my follow up appointments. I was very satisfied with the care I got from him and his staff. That being said, I hope I never have to see him again (professionally, that is.)
