Dr. Robert Frank Ahmed, MD

Dr. Ahmed is wonderful--not just a terrific surgeon, but a kind, thoughtful human being. He actually called me the day after my surgery just to see how I was doing. He explained my condition and everything about the procedure to me, took the time to answer all my questions without ever making me feel rushed, and, to use a phrase popular today, "made me feel heard." His staff, too, are knowledgeable, professional, and kind (special thanks to Danielle and Gretchen). The office is also well organized--I had three appointments at different times of day and not once were they running late, even though plenty of patients were moving in and out, and I had plenty of time with Dr. Ahmed. When you're sick and in pain, it is so reassuring to know you're in competent, caring hands--hence the five stars!

Dr. Ahmed removed my gallbladder. Could not have been a better experience. Answered all my questions and provided wonderful follow-up. Highly recommend.

Dr. Robert Ahmed has been an excellent surgeon for operating on my Inquinal Hernia that I'd had for years. His expertise in correcting this condition through robotic surgery at Fair Oaks Hospital was outstanding! He was very knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire process. He clearly explained what the hernia condition was and how he'd go about conducting the surgery to correct it. He put me completely at ease especially since this was my first experience undergoing surgery of any kind. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He and the surgical staff at Fair Oaks Hospital took very good care of me from the time I arrived for Pre-Op through the surgery and Post-OP. If you need surgical care in this area, I'd highly recommend you seek out Dr. Ahmed.

I have now had surgery performed by Dr. Ahmed on two ocassions and could not have been more pleased with the outcome. Dr. Ahmed is pleasant and extremely knowledgeble, as well as an excellent surgeon. Any encounters that I have had with his staff (both office and medical/nursing) have been handled with a high degree of sensitivity and professionalism. I would give him the strongest recommendation possible.

Poor treatment for pilonidal surgery, blaming follow-up care on the parents. The patient was not happy. Do not go to a general surgeon for any pilonidal cyst surgery and/or treatment. It is often a lengthy treatment that may involve more than one surgery. Pilonidal cyst patients must see a colorectal specialist from the start. Additionally, colorectal surgeons know to recommend and perform cleft-lift surgery, the latest surgery to finish the job and prevent the cyst(s) from recurring.

Dr. Ahmed has been my surgeon for multiple procedures - from major to minor, since 2003. He’s an excellent surgeon with a compassionate and caring manner. Although I now live out of state, I would return to Northern Virginia again for any future surgery - simply so that it could be done by Dr. Ahmed.

Dr. Ahmed is an EXCEPTIONAL Surgeon on all levels relative to quality patient care! In fact, I am taking the time to hit every review internet site on his behalf. My surgery was not an easy one and he approached my case as if he was dealing with a family member. He took the time to discuss my options, the details regarding the surgery and provided me encouragement through the entire process! He is a skilled surgeon that takes a "patient first" approach which is quite refreshing these days; wouldn't you say?

I was referred by GYN after my laparoscopic myomectomy to see a general surgeon regarding a separate issue that my GYN found in surgery. It was very easy to get an appointment with this provider. The front end staff were very polite and professional. Dr. Ahmed, was very kind and has very good beside manner he set me up on a 6 week plan( OTC rx , etc) and wanted me to come back in 6 weeks to see if the regimen he suggested worked in the mean time he was going to get my records from INOVA and my GI Dr. 6 weeks later, I came back. The MA seemed confused as to why I was there, asking a lot of questions stating I was to follow up with my PCP. I told her that Dr. Ahmed requested that I FU in 6 weeks after I've taken 6 wks of the OTC rx . The MA seemed confused , now enters Dr. Ahmed. Dr. Ahmed had no recollection of the treatment plan he gave me, he had not reached out to my GI doctor he had not gotten my test results from INOVA and was scrambling to get this information as I sat in the exam room on the verge of tears. We went over my issues again, and he was telling me that I was still in my postop w/my gyn and that she should take care of it. I had to reiterated that my GYN requested that I see a general surgeon and I showed him pictures of the issue again. He provided me with a script to get diagnostic imaging done and told me to follow up once completed. I left this appointment complete dissatisfied and upset. . I am not sure if there was a system error or if he just forgot to dictate my note in a timely fashion or what but after this experience I cannot recommend Dr. Ahmed to anyone.

I had to have emergency surgery recently and Dr. Ahmed was my surgeon. I found his manner to be calm, friendly, but also refreshingly direct. His follow-up with me was equally pleasurable. I'm glad I was in his hands for this sudden and urgent surgery.

I avoided hernia surgery for years due to fear of doctors needles etc. If you are this type of person.....THIS IS YOUR MAN!!!!!!!! Thank You Dr Ahmed

Dr Ahmed is a great doctor. I trust him. He has preformed two surgeries on me without any complications. Not only is he very talented and experienced but he also has a great bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable and took time to answer all my many questions. After the first surgery I had some questions about getting my insurance company to cover the anesthesiologist. Dr Ahmed was super helpful and even offered make a call to help me resolve the issue.

Dr. Ahmed has performed three separate surgeries on me to date, and there have been no problems, complications, or issues.

I've been a patient of Dr. Ahmed for nearly 20 years. Throughout, he has been consistently professional, thorough, accurate, and personable. With diagnosis, he is cautious and realistic, but does not cause unnecessary alarm. He's conservative in his approach ... not too quick to operate. I have a real sense that he has my best interests at heart. His surgical stitching is so neat that my other doctors have remarked they cannot even see where the incisions were.
