Dr. Robert P Lyons, MD, FAAOS

Dr. Lyons saw me within 24 hours of an injury to my hand. I had tried to see another surgeon before I called Dr. Lyons, and would not be see until a week after the injury. He had me scheduled for surgery two days later. The surgery had to be postponed for other reasons, but he did his best to get it done as quickly as possible. He was on-time or early at every appointment, and quick and clear with the options he offered for treatment. The amputation is healing very well and I was back to work 2 weeks after.

Just had extensive rotator cuff surgery by Dr. Lyons. Would not have gone to anyone else for this surgery. Did an outstanding job and I am well on road to recovery. Operated on my son for same problem when he was in Hershey Medical Center again with 100% successful results. Superior knowledge and skill in orthopedics. Don't know any other doctor who compares to Dr. Lyons.

Dr Lyons was very prompt if not early to see me for my appts. He was the 3rd surgeon that I saw and was the only one that was willing to do the tests that my physical therapist had been requesting for 6 months. He took his time with me during my appts and gave me a prompt diagnosis.

Dr. Lyons is a very compassionate and excellent surgeon! I have had a great recovery from my shoulder surgery.

I initially respected Dr. Lyons because I had no reason not to, but that was before he practically accused me of faking the extreme shoulder pain I've been experiencing for nearly 9 months (cost me my job, and my last semester of school), and refused to do further testing. I'm a grown adult AND a nurse, but he treated me like an ignorant child. I have never felt so insulted by a healthcare "professional" in my life, and I have had quite a bit of experience as a patient. I'm sure he is quite knowledgeable, but I found him to be extremely offensive. To say that he lacks in compassion would be an understatement. Perhaps if your injury is sports-related (I was referred to him by another Hershey specialist; I did not choose him myself), you will have better luck. As for myself, I am going to Temple and am hoping to find a doctor who is willing to look beyond just the surface so that I can get back to my life again. Best of luck if you go to him; I'm sure he's great for some!
