For my retroperitoneal sarcoma, Dr. Yoon treated me with preop proton beam radiation and a big surgery. Sloan Kettering just recommended surgery. Dr. Yoon showed me his studies, which have a much lower recurrence rate with his strategy. He did a great job with my surgery and I'm confident the tumor won't grow back.

I'm now 5 years out from my stomach cancer surgery and had my last visit with Dr. Yoon. My local surgeon sent me to Dr. Yoon when I was diagnosed. He said he is the best stomach surgeon around. Dr. Yoon did a great job with the surgery and has taken wonderful care of me since.

I had surgery at another hospital for my retroperitoneal sarcoma and the surgeon said it was unresectable. Then I saw Dr. Yoon. He had me get some chemo and radiation and the resected the tumor. Just had my 2 year checkup and I’m cancer free. I can’t thank him enough.

I had a robotic partial gastrectomy by Dr. Yoon two weeks ago. I’m already back to work. He did an amazing job.

Dr. Yoon took care operated on my mother 14 years ago when he was in Boston when she was 72. She had prior surgery for a large abdominal sarcoma by another surgeon who resected only part of the tumor. We went to Mass General Hospital and she got proton beam radiation from Dr. Thomas DeLaney abd then had the entire tumor removed by Dr. Yoon. My mom recently died from recurrence if this tumor but I’m extremely gravely for the 14 great years she had after Dr. Yoon’s operation. When she had her recurrence, Dr. Yoon had moved NYC but he called me back right away and told he how to deal with the recurrence. When my Mom passed away, I called him on his cell phone and he was so kind in his remarks about my Mom. I am so grateful Dr. Yoon and his colleagues at MGH we’re able to give my Mom 14 more years of life.

At age 42, I found out that I have a genetic syndrome that gives me a high risk of developing gastric cancer. My mother died of gastric cancer at age 65, and my grandfather died of gastric cancer at age 56. The recommended treatment for individuals with my genetic syndrome (germline CDH1 mutation/hereditary diffuse gastric cancer syndrome) is removal of your entire stomach. I did a lot of research that led me to Dr. Yoon. He probably has performed the most prophylactic total gastrectomies of any surgeon in the world. He was kind enough to speak with me on the phone for 45 minutes since I don't live near New York City even though I wasn't his patient then. He described the procedure and recovery in great detail. I saw him in clinic on a Friday, had surgery the next day, and left the hospital after 7 days, just as he described. Now about 6 months later, I'm back to doing everything I did before surgery and actually am healthier since I lost some weight. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Yoon and his team. He saved me from going through what my mother and grandfather went through.

Dr. Yoon operated on my 68 yo husband about one year ago. Before we saw him, he had exploratory surgery for a large abdominal sarcoma by another surgeon and was told he was unresctable. Dr. Yoon sent him for preoperative proton beam radiation and then resected the tumor along with some colon, left kidney, distal pancreas, spleen, and portion of left diaphragm. My husband had a long recovery period but now is back to normal and cancer free. Dr. Yoon is a wonderful surgeon and a great doctor. We are both extremely grateful.

Dr. Yoon performed the Whipple procedure on my 58 year old sister approximately month ago and presently she is not progressed in her recovery. The pain continues to be ever present. We had to take my sister twice to within the last two weeks to Sloane Urgent Care. My sister's recovery has not progressed whatsoever. There appears to be additional complications that Dr. Yoon is still not addressing. Dr. Yoon's poor bedside manner and lack of compassion is completely intolerable and unacceptable. He is unreachable, he is cold, he speaks in vague terminology, he makes very uncaring remarks for someone of his position who job is to care for patients. He clearly is NOT a stand-up representative of Sloane Kettering. Please DO NOT allow him to touch/care or perform surgery on your loved one. Clearly, there is plenty more I could write.

3 years ago, my brother went in for surgery that Dr S. Yoon was overconfident about, in fact, meeting this doctor in his office, his foot propped up on his desk--him leaning back on his chair (yes, that was the initial meeting), he was very, very certain he could "cure" my brother's problem. Needless to say, my brother wound up hospitalized for two months and lost over 100 lbs due to this overconfident surgery and the complications that derived from this man's skills. I am glad my brother eventually left the hospital. Fast forward three years, the "cure" this doctor was so confident on came back and this time, this doc had a different tune, hopefully through humbleness that was very much missing in the first meeting, he enabled a recommendation to a more seasoned surgeon to take on this resurrected-debacle situation. I know doctors are not God, but when one professes to act like one and my brother had trusted in that, it's quite disappointing to find out that they cannot solve every incident in a guaranteed manner. I hope that this doctor is a little more humbled now, dealing with the kind of patients that he would encounter takes a tremendous sense of listening, caring and a deep concern to really solve the serious problems his kind of patients presents. Having the right skills and outlook to direct the follow up care and staff is also a crucial part of any successful surgeon--that comes from skill, determination to help and training follow up staff.

He failed to recognize a serious complication of surgery he did which resulted in rmultiple infections and readmission. Makes no effor to be approachable.

I am amazed at the kindness and caring that I have witnessed in my first appointment with Dr. Yoon, as well as with all of the other professionals that I have met with tests ordered by Dr. Yoon. It is very comforting, when you are scared and worried, to be surrounded by such professionalism.
