Dr. Samir Bharat Desai, MD

Dr. Desai initially seemed to be caring and thorough, spending time with my parents and I at our first meeting as my dad’s cancer had not yet been diagnosed. After the diagnosis, however, when it was decided that my father would opt out of chemo, we did not see the same level of attentiveness or care to be honest. Thus was a hugely profound moment for us as a family fraught with uncertainties, unknowns, questions upon questions, fear, and emotion. As a “seasoned oncologist” as he referred to hinself, he should be keenly aware of the context and bring some level of knowledge and empathy as a result. Instead, after not returning messages left for him and being valued by my father’s primary doctor as a result, he sarcastically implied that we were amplifying or exaggerating my father’s pain and just basically pushed him off toward hospice. He couldn’t handle the honest confrontation of events and had to physically leave the room during a meeting multiple times to regain his composure. Quite frankly, the lack of professionalism was egregious. I’m left wondering if my father could have gotten different treatment had we seen someone else, if he could have had more options or at least better care. He was quite literally left alone once he refused chemo, and that, to me, is not what makes an exceptional doctor.

My husband saw Dr. Desai in Plainfield today and after a long 3 weeks of seeing different docs, we were impressed and relieved as to how knowledgeable, friendly, personable, and especially thorough he was! Wonderful bedside manner and looked into every aspect of my husband’s health!

DR DASAI IS A SUPER DOCTOR. HE WORKS WITH PATIENTS THAT ARE SICK, SCARED, UNDER-EDUCATED ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING AND OF COURSE VERY EMOTIONAL. DR DASAI UNDERSTANDS ALL THESE THINGS!!! HE IS MY ONCOLOGIST AS WELL AS MY DAUGHTERS. WE HAVE BACK TO BACK STAGE 2 BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS.HE WAS MY HUSBAND'S DOCTOR AS WELL.HUBBY HAD A WEIRD REACTION TO MEDICATIONS AFFECTING HIS BLOOD. DR DESAI GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT. SO FOLKS, THIS REALLY SHOULD BE THREE 5 STAR REPORTS...HE'S VERY GIVING OF HIS TIME AND COMPASSIONATE. LIKE THE REST OF US, DR DASAI CAN HAVE DIFFICULT DAYS BUT JUST SHARE A LONG, HUGE HUG! PATIENT AND DOCTOR WILL UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER MORE THAN WORDS CAN EVER SAY! GREAT STAFF TOO; ALL WILL GIVE YOU EVERYTHING THEY'VE GOT! ONE LAST THING, IT'S WONDERFUL TO HAVE A 1ST CLASS ONCOLOGIST IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD...JUST MINUTES FROM HOME!

Last year I had breast cancer and subsequently received chemotherapy. Dr. Desai was my physician. At the first visit he set the tone for all care thereafter. He is very thorough, professional, caring, and the clinic as a whole made an unhappy situation much less difficult. I would recommend him to any one.

I can't believe the report I just read. I am thankful I am not in the same spot as the previous person, I do not have a life threatening illness, however, I have a blood disorder that may require IV Iron the rest of my life, as well as Vitamin B Shots. He recommended me to other specialists to get the bottom of what I had going on, always sat down and spent as much time as I ever thought I needed, he even encouraged questions about other members of the family- answering honestly and caringly. I would totally recommend him to anyone in a tough spot or not. He's awesome. And I thought REALLY caring. His staff is great too.

This doctor was referred to my mother for Stage IV lung cancer metasticzed to the brain. Our visit with the first visit to discuss treatment. Our mother is nearly 79, always healthy, never smoked and the diagnoses came out of the blue less than three weeks prior to the visit. Because our mother had 6 tumors in her brain and of large size and multiple locations radiation treatment had begun within a week of the emergency room visit where the cancer was discovered. The doctor talked very fast, and was unresponsive to questions about the treatment he was recommending, interrupting us with each question that we tried to ask. When we tried to clarify our question, he abruptly got up, said "well this appointment is clearly not going well" and left the examination room and did not return and sent a nurse in his place. Later he called my sister to "defend" his behavior, not offering an apology but to let her know that "he didn't feel listened to". My mother's life expectancy is maybe 6 months and we had received no previous information about what the option for treatment would be, this was our first discussion. I would heartily recommend not using this doctor, this was the worst experience with a medical professional I have ever encountered.
