Dr. Selene Parekh

Dr. Parekh was wonderful - he saw me promptly after a fall for a very painful and swollen foot and ankle and identified a potential issue that another orthopedist that I had seen before him had completely missed. He ordered an MRI and his office got authorization for it within a couple days. When I saw him again, he actually looked at the images, ruled out the injury he was worried about and very kindly explained exactly what the MRI showed. He was also genuinely happy that I didn’t have that particular injury, instead of wanting to do surgery like many doctors. I was very pleased with his care.

I EXPERIENCED AN INCREDIBLE SHARP PAIN UNDER MY LEFT FOOT WHILE GETTING UP FROM MY CHAIR AT WORK IN NEW YORK CITY AFTER 2 VISITS TO MY FORMER SPORT ORTHOPEDIC HE DIAGNOSED ME WITH AVASCULAR NECROSIS OF MY LEFT TALUS BONE. MY ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR STATED THAT I WOULD EVENTUALLY LOOSE MY FOOT. THEN I PROCEEDED TO GET SEVERAL OTHER OPINIONS (4) TO BE EXACT FROM NYU-LANGONE HEALTH, NY PRESBYTERIAN SPECIAL SURGERY AND HSS IN NY, AND (2) OTHER DOCTORS IN NEW JERSEY. THEY ALL CAME TO THE CONCLUSION OPTION (1) AMPUTATION OR FUSION OF MY FOOT. THIS WAS NOT THE OPTION I WAS HOPING FOR. I STARTED DOING INTENSIVE SEARCH I CAME UPON A COMPANY (PARAGON 21) AND I PROCEEDED TO REACH OUT TO THEM EXPLAINING MY HEALTH SITUATION. TWO DAYS LATER THEY ADVISED ME TO REACH OUT TO DR.PAREK AT ROTHMAN ORTHOPEDICS INSTITUTE. I MADE THE APPOINTMENT EVEN THOUGH, AT THIS POINT I FELT DEFEATED AND ADAMANT THAT DR.SELENE PAREKH WOULD TELL ME THE SAME SAD STORY AS THE LAST (6) DOCTORS HAVE. TO MY SURPRISE DR.PAREKH GAVE ME GAVE ME THE OPTION OF A TOTAL TALUS REPLACEMENT. ALTHOUGH I HAD TO BE PATIENT AND WAIT SIX PLUS WEEKS FOR THE TALUS REPLACEMENT TO BE CUSTOM MADE, IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT CONSIDERING ALL THE OTHER OPTIONS I WAS GIVEN. I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR DR.SELENE PAREK FOR SAVING MY LIMB AND GIVING ME THE QUALITY OF LIFE BACK. I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DR PAREK AND ROTHMAN ORTHOPEDICS FOR THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND CARE. This doctor left me permanently disabled. I needed three surgeries to fix the damage he did I was in better condition with a broken ankle before he touched it. I will never feel my foot again or have full range of motion. I needed three surgeries to try to fix the damage but was left with permanent partial disability at 23 years old

I have had two significant surgeries on my left foot with Dr. Parekh. A total ankle replacement in 2013 and a complex osteo-arthritis/bunion surgery to correct distortion that the osteo-arthitis caused, forcing my foot to turn to a right angle to my leg. The total ankle replacement was a remarkable success. Years of pain were erased. My second surgery was Oct. 2018. I now can walk with my foot straight. My balance is so improved that I do not have to walk with an aide. He is dirrect but I have never seen him anything but caring. My husband and I feel that he is the very best for foot related issues and if you want the best, he is it. I will be having the osteo-arthritis addressed in my other foot with him soon becasue I trust him and I highly recommend him!

Dr. Parekh spent very little time with me, surgery failed (I have more pain than before surgery), and there is no plan for resolution. I simply do not understand how he has gotten good reviews. My interactions with him were more impersonal and uncaring than virtually any other doc I've seen.

I can't imagine how he got such good reviews. He was impersonal and brusque. Not a good result with surgery but that's probably unusual (but being impersonal can't be unusual).

He promised me that my plartar faciitis will get better after surgery. But instead he give me a permanent damage on my foot. After that he just referred my to a pain management Doctor. He said He can not do anything about it anymore. Pla do not go to him.

Forgot things I told him in initial visits, and once I reminded him it required more visits and money. He also makes zero attempt to get to know patients which I imagine is why he doesn't register feedback that would be relevant to the diagnosis. That said, I need a competent doctor before a friendly one, so the fact that he does seem to know what he's doing for the 1.5 minutes of his time I get at least gets 3 stars.

I have waited several years to post this review. I didn't want to be unfair or too harsh in my assessment. Dr. Parekh has a very pleasant, affable personality but in my case, his judgement was off. He has an odd philosophy of keeping patients in an immobilization boot for as many weeks (16 in my case) as he deems necessary- disregarding associated problems that will ensue from such a long period of immobilization. Go to one of the "real Duke" foot specialists and you will find out that they NEVER keep anyone immobilized for more than 6 wks for plantar fasciitis. In addition, Dr Parekh wrongly told me I had a fractured heel which was disproved when I finally insisted on an MRI at 16 wks. I ended up with overuse of my "good" foot and leg and tore cartilage in my "good" knee shortly after the boot came off- the knee injury occurred doing mild PT exercises under the direct supervision of a PT. My belief is that the long period of immobilization accelerated any existing knee arthritis and set me up for long term knee pain and disability which I still suffer from. Yes, he cured my plantar fasciitis but at what cost? Until you experience knee problems, you don't realize the importance of this major joint- heel pain pales in comparison.

Did a lot of research on the surgeons who specialize in the specific type of ortho foot surgery that I needed. Not only was Dr Parekh an excellent surgeon, he and his staff were very informative and addressed all my concerns and issues. I would highly recommend him for foot surgery.

When I went into surgery at Duke I asked one of the nurses about him, her quote was " been working here 20 years and he is the only one that I would let work on my mother when she needed someone, he is THE BEST" and I agree

To me an orthopedic surgeon not only has to properly diagnose, assess the appropriate treatment, and discuss details with patient, but must also exhibit a high level of manual dexterity and quality of care. I don't accept "sufficient" or "good enough" when pertaining my body. I saw the radiographs after the surgery and was not at all impressed. Sloppy work!!

Dr Parekh is terrific. He did an extensive bunion surgery on my foot, that included straightening my toes, and I have several metal implants. He saw me each week after surgery, was kind and courteous, thorough, and truly one of the most efficient doctors I have ever met. I am now running and doing yoga better than before, and my foot looks great! I would recommend him to anyone.
