disappointing experience with sub standard care. I broke my ankle and was wearing a large boot. I told the doctor I was having pain and his response was “maybe you’re doing too much walking”. I expected him to look at my foot after my boot was removed and he said “not necessary”. I was stunned. He didn’t even check the swelling of my ankle or the black and blue marks. He was only concerned with the billing paperwork.

I did see this doctor on two occassions. They told me they accepted my insurance and took a copay from me each time. Then they realized they were not providers for this insurance because they got denied on both claims after they had seen me twice. I know there is a bit of confusion at the beginning of every year, but I've worked in this particular fields for over 30 years. They have now billed me $500 for the visit and turned me over to collection. The office manager is insulting and rude.

I highly recommend, great Dr. and friendly staff!

I went in for a simple out-patient surgery that he botched -- twice! Due to his screw-up and lies, I've been in pain for 11 years. Lost medical license in IN. Why is he still practicing any where?

He helped me get my life back.

After surgery I was half blind in one eye, part paralyzed both legs, unable to keep my balance. After about 7 years I found out he could not operate in some of the Indiana hospitals. It was to late for me to take him to court.

I was a young, healthy female who fractured her wrist on a Thursday morning. I went to North Broward hospital, as it was the closest Emergency Room. It was a closed fracture of the Distal Radius (wrist) the ER doc said I needed an Ortho consult, she told me I would need manipulation under anesthesia. She comes back and says that the Doctor will not have time for me until around midnight (I got there at 2am) and that he told her to admit me. I denied being admitted, why in the world would anyone lie around in a hospital bed for 18 hours to have a twenty minute consult? I was told that I could only leave AMA, which I did. I called his office for an appointment as instructed, saw him first thing on Friday. He told me I needed to have emergency surgery the next day. NO TIME for a second opinion. I was so vulnerable and fragile and in soo much pain that I didn't look up Svabek, I ASSUMED that a district hospital had criteria, and WOULD/COULD NEVER have a shady doctor on call with privileges. I had the surgery because he put the fear of deformation in my head. I have an enormous titanium plate and 6 rods. When I woke up from surgery, I never saw him. Never. He had already left for the day. He was so rude and nasty during my follow up visit, I had to push for medicine, I am constantly in pain. Then I was fired from my job because 12 days post op, he released me with NO RESTRICTIONS or LIGHT DUTY instructions. He signed the return to work form but wrote nothing, it was blank. He has no bedside manner and his staff is profoundly unprofessional and nasty to every patient, When I did go for a second opinion (obviously after he did damage) I am told that the plate is two sizes to big and that he used 2 rods too many, I only needed 4. Now I see all of these horrible and said patient comments and I am wondering what recourse I have. I sympathize with all of you that are still coping with the damage done to you. How in the world does a doctor with a reputation like Svabek get to be on call in a district hospital? How does that happen? Someone is responsible for putting the public in Jeopardy, and we all need to pursue this problem together, TODAY.

Dr. Svabek was my 3rd opinion about my surgery. I am very happy that I took my time and went to see him. He suggested completely different things than the other two doctors I saw, and he was right, about everything he said. I am glad I trusted him. My surgery went well and I am fully recovered today. Thank you Dr. Svabek!

I would like to share here my experience with Dr. Svabek because I believe that good doctors and people like him often do not get the credit for their amazing work and dedication.  When I needed and when I was searching for a specialist I read dr. reviews all over the internet, and I have noticed that most of the people would leave a negative feedback. This is the reason why I am taking the time here to do the right thing and say a few good and WELL DESERVED words about this amazing and very much dedicated to his work individual. It is so easy to write a negative review when we are unhappy but when everything goes well, when we are cured, and for instance, when our surgery and recovery period goes well we are in a hurry to go back to our normal lives.We forget to share with the rest of the people who need a good specialist (like we did once) about our experience with these great doctors and help them make the right choice.  I am 26 years old and I had an awful spinal fusion. I was scared, I was stressed out, and very lost with my decision which doctor to pick and what to do. Dr. Svabek was recommended to me by my grandparents. I have always known that their doctor (Dr.SVabek) did an amazing job with their hip problems and surgeries but I did not even think about that back then when I needed help.  After I had my first appointment and met him I can say that I already felt better, and I will tell you why! - He will listen to you!!! He spent enough time with me to answer to all my questions (and I ask A LOT of questions). He has a great personality and he is very fun to be around. He jokes often and I believe every doctor should take an example from him. Sometimes a simple human act can make you feel better.. Also, last but not last, when you add the years of experience and skills he has( I believe about 20 years) and a happy  ground parents that he has been helping all these years, you have THE RIGHT CHOICE there! Today I am fully recovered and I feel more than lucky to have Dr. Svabek taking care of my problem. Dr. Svabek is an amazing specialist that I own my life to him! I promise you...You will do make the right choice with him! Happy and Healthy lives everyone!

Doctor Svabek is very high strung, very aggressive, talks very fast, too much coffee perhaps? He seems preoccupied, not especially focused. If you don't need surgery you might be okay in his care, but my experience was bordered on a sub-standard result.

Get a second opinion.

Had a wonderful experience with steve no problems short wait and I'm all straightened out!

He took an dray and came back and said I see what is causing all your pain. You need surgery and l your back pain and leg pain will go away. Said he would have to cut me on the front and back and be off work about 3 months. Actually cut me 6 inches front and back and I was off 6 months. Still have pain daily!! Now I find out he has been kicked out of several hospitals and several counties. Don't send your worse enemy to him. He will get you with his bed side manner then after surgery send you home even if you don't feel ready. I have so much stomach trouble because he pulled all my organs out and threw them back in. He's in it for the money Watch out down there Iin Johnson county!!!

I had my neck fused to relieve pain from previous pinched nerve. the pain returned four years later. I will soon need surgery again.

Dr. Svabek was highly reccomended by my family doctor. I am very happy with the outcome of my interaction with Dr. Svabek and my surgery. I would reccomend my friends and family to him

I am certain every surgeon has a patient or two who did not get the outcome they seek. Does that make them a bad surgeon? Absolutely not! Dr. Svabek is an excellent choice for spine and general orthopedic surgery. I have worked with him for years and I confidently refer patients to him to this day. It is appalling the things that happen to a decent sole practitioner who has an aversion against the politics and greedy pursuit of financial gain as we see with many of the large groups. It is obvious in my opinion these large groups do not want this good doctor around and are merely trying to destroy his good name. Dr. Svabek is not only a good surgeon but he is a good man. When you go to the big group and they tell you they can't help you because you don't have the right kind of insurance, you will find Dr. Svabek will find a way to help. God Bless Him
