Dr. Traci Ann Purath, MD

I went in to see Dr. Purath for severe vertigo and she was able to help me. I had been to so many other doctors who couldn't do anything. She was wonderful

Dr. Purath helped me with treating muscle spasms and twitches that I was having. She also contacted me and my family hours after the MRI that she had me take after finding abnormalities in it. Turned out that I had a huge arachnoid cyst in my brain, and she wanted to make sure that we got it taken care of as soon a so possible. She cares about her patients, and she has a bedside manner that I found to be very comforting. She was great, and everything I was hoping for.

Cannot get help here. Very rude staff. Frustrating system. Just get run around. They care less about anything but lining their pockets and they don't follow through. Referrals are made to her friends. Never got any resolution, just wasted a TON of money making her rich!!!!!

Dr Purath is a warm, caring and compassionate doctor. She worked with me to get to the root cause of my migraines. With her help my migraines are approximately 3 a year instead of the 3+ monthly. I can honestly say I have never experienced anything negative from her staff or by Dr Purath. Thanks to her I feel like I have my life back!

It is difficult to write this because Dr. Purath did help me with my migraines; however, I have very rarely come across any service person--especially a Dr.--who would talk to me the way Dr. Purath talked to me today. Dr. Purath was rude, unprofessional, invalidating, and mean-spirited. My problems with Dr. Purath started with her nurse. Every time I called during an emergency or when something was wrong I was directed to her nurse. The nurse would then tell me that she would talk to the doctor and get back to me. The information that she would relay always sounded ridiculous. For example, I once had a migraine so bad that I had to be escorted to the emergency room. After being discharged, I called Dr. Purath's office to get a medication while I waited to see her again. The nurse told me there was nothing that they could do because I went to the ER. I was flabbergasted. Another incident happened in the late winter or early spring of this year. I went to go fill a script that had been giving me relief from my daily migraines only to be told that Dr. Purath blocked the script. When I called her office, I was told that I never came in for a follow up appointment. (I was feeling better). I thought that it was reasonable to call someone before you blocked their medication, but today when I saw Dr. Purath she said, "We don't babysit." This summer the medication that I was on Escitalopram had caused me to gain approximately thirty pounds. My primary care doctor and another highly qualified doctor said that they had seen Escitalopram do this before. So, I called Dr. Purath's office a couple of times. The nurse got back to me after the second phone call and again said she would relay my issue to Dr. Purath. I got a phone call back saying that the doctor wanted me to stay on this medication for approximately three to six months. To me, this was unacceptable. But, I was sure that if I actually talked to Dr. Purath, the conversation would be different. Problematically, there was a couple months wait, so I went back to my primary doctor and tried another med. It didn't work. I called Dr. Purath's office again, and they had a cancellation. I booked my appointment and was happy that I might find some answers. Well, I was definitely wrong. First, Dr Purath told me that she had never seen that kind of weight gain from that medication. (Two other doctors I have seen said they have, and it is all over the internet). Then, she said well it seems like you are seeing a lot of doctors. I said that I wanted to see her but that it was a long wait. I told her it was like a month and a half or two months to see her. Furthermore, I said that was a long time to wait for a person who suffers from migraines. At this point, she said you don't have migraines. Well, yes, at this point, I am not having migraines but I have also gained thirty pounds. Dr. Purath then started going through her notes and questioning everything I said like I would intentionally lie or be misleading. At this point, I told her about the nurse and how difficult she was. She then went on to say that I was difficult. I told her I had never talked to her rudely or out of line. She brought up the time I called the office when they blocked my script. I didn't say anything offensive. I asked them to fill the script while I waited for an appointment. I then said I would think that the office would call if they were intending to block my medication. This is when she said the "We don't babysit" line. At that point, I had enough. When the appointment was over, I told Dr. Purath that this would probably be my last appointment,. What she did next was extremely unprofessional,. Dr. Purath proceeded to say "great, thank you, and I am happy." Then, she stormed out of the room. Side note: When I went to the ER for my migraines, it was my allergist that called to see if I was ok.

My daughter came to Dr. Purath for chronic headaches. After imaging, the doctor tried her on three different medications (gabapentin, indomethacin, tizanidine). When these meds provided my daughter no relief, Dr. Purath said we were out of options and referred her to an in-patient clinic in Chicago... that is operated by a friend of hers. I do not recommend this doctor.

Dr Purath is my neurologist treating my Myasthenia Gravis. She is unlike any doctor I have ever met with.I was in remission, relapsed and she has put me right back into remission with her common sense approach to my disease. I cannot say enough good about her. She is the best I have ever had, I owe her a great deal. Never have I had a doctor sincerely show the concern and care I have received from her. Companionate, listened to my issue. Remembered me on follow- up visits. Monitored my progress until I received relief for my headaches. Continued with follow-ups.

Please beware of this doctor. I agree with the other reviews in regards to Dr. Purath 'dismissing' you if she cannot help you within her time frame or if you disagree with her. And in my case if she has incorrectly treated you. Her sugar coated hugs and insincere smiles are a coverup. You would be wise to seek out another specialist and avoid her shameful tactics.

SHE IS AMAZING!!!!! We like to think of her as "Dr. Mom." Truly one of the most caring, understanding, and professional neurologists we have ever encountered. She comes HIGHLY recommended in my book!!!

Dr. Purath has been my neurologist for the past 7 years. She is a truly wonderful doctor who is not only extremely intelligent, but kind ... an all too rare combination in medicine these days. I have a very rare and extremely debilitating type of migraine. After a year of struggling with typical migraine symptoms combined with other neurological symptoms which no doctor could seem to effectively treat or diagnose, I found Dr. Purath, and she diagnosed me on the first visit and prescribed meds that helped!! I highly recommend Dr. Purath!! In fact, I have recommended her to many friends and family members, and I will continue to do so.

Dr. Purath has helped me so much! Not just with her medical knowledge, but she genuinely cares about ME!! I have and will continue to referred friends and family to her practice.

I would caution anyone reading a review of any physician that there are two sides to every story and that the true cowards are those who will not sign their name to reviews they write.

Should have busted her when she had me overdosed on a medication, which became toxic in my system. I was so sick, my body was shutting down. Saw here to see if prescriptions were at fault; she checked one but not the other. Of course it was "the other" causing the problems. My family had to google and do research to figure out all my symptoms were coming from that drug. Once called, she was rather frantic, wanting me off of it immediately! Can't believe someone that "accomplished" totally missed the boat. Worse, she walked on eggshells with me afterwards, and I truly believe was just worried about her practicing license. A year later, she found her "out" with me and severed the relationship. What a caring "blessed" doctor as she describes herself on her website. It was reputation vs. good patient care in the end. Disgusted! Fell for all the "honey's," "hugs" and smiles.

more interested in covering her butt than in the patient. had me fooled for awhile but when it came down to our first disagreement, she was outta there. beware her smiling , hugging approach. it's only there when it serves her purpose.

It appears that Dr. Purath is more concerned about making money than she is for the health of her patients. I started seeing her for chronic migraine last year. It was an hour drive and a cash payment since my insurance deductible hadn't been met. The meds she prescribed weren't working, at least not at the low dosage. When I spoke to her nurse about increasing the dosage, Dr. Purath requested that I schedule yet another office visit. Office visits lasted only about 5 minutes! I explained to her nurse that it was difficult making the long trip so frequently and that I was paying out of pocket since my insurance deductible hadn't been reached. I questioned why I needed to return so soon since we were only discussing increasing the dosage and not changing the prescription. I wondered aloud if Dr. Purath was more interested in collecting fees than in helping me. She assured me that this wasn't the case so I scheduled another appointment. A few hours later, the nurse called me back. She had spoken to Dr. Purath and told her everything; she informed me that sheâ??s not allowed to filter information. Dr. Purath decided to end her relationship with me; she fired me! I was astonished. I asked to speak with Dr. Purath about this, but I was told she wouldn't speak to me. I'm a reasonable person, so I found this to be a cowardly response. Her reaction only confirmed my suspicion that she cares more about making money than providing care for her patients and understanding their situations. In the meantime, I've found another neurologist closer to home and am making lemonade out of the lemons handed me.
