Dr. Vincent Paul Desantis, MD

This guy is nice. He is a little odd in session but most psychiatrists are. I complained about his answering personal clinical calls in session. He didnt answer calls in my following session. I cant imagine how much he is working right now. Hes seeing me on a sunday afternoon. Its generous of him. I have no idea if he is a good doctor but I appreciate that kindness.

Answers personal calls on his cell phone during billable patient hours. He works at a local hospital and also chooses to treat clients in his private practice during his hospital on-call hours. Odd choice on his part, but I imagine very profitable for him financially. His demeanor could best be described as similar to someone who is heavily sedated.

Zero empathy or compassion, takes calls during consult, does not listen or want to hear patient input. Over medicates, cold and disinterested. The opposite of a care giver.!

I am totally baffled by my experience with this "doctor." He plainly said talking through the issues I was having wouldn't resolve them, that I had a mental illness and needed drugs. After prescribing two heavy duty drugs, he said I could simply call if I wanted to make an appointment. I took this to mean that he didn't think the sessions were necessary anymore, and that he would fill my prescriptions. I was ambivalent about this. After letting my prescriptions lapse multiple times, weeks go by, and he calls back at 9:30 at night, and says the arrangement isn't working for him, and that I should find someone who is willing to just fill prescriptions and not see me. I told him I wasn't sure that's what I wanted to do and that I'd think about it. I later asked him for an appointment, saying that I'm not interested in just having someone fill my prescriptions, and he now refuses to respond. My prescriptions have lapsed, I can't fill them, and I am experiencing withdrawal. I hate to think of what kind of harm this man has done to other patients. Do not go to see him.

This terrible man misdiagnosed and overmedicated many children he is despicable as he does not do homework or feel the need to deal with people as human beings he simply medicates and loves to give children "shut up" drugs...he is the cause of horrible things by his irresponsible behavior!!!!

Dr. Desantis has been very helpful to my family. He has provided marriage counseling and help to my son who has an anxiety disorder. He was very flexible about scheduling and generally a pleasure to deal with.

My daughter was drugged into a stupor by Dr DeSantis. He met every crisis with more medication. The medications prescribed altered her hormon levels and added 100 pounds to her 5’ 98 pound frame. He said she might get better when she was around 25 years old (she was 14 at the time). Having no experience with mental illness we stuck with him until he said she would never be able to go to college. Well - we moved away, got a new dr who was horrified at the medications she was on and changed everything. She lost 100 pounds is a second year college student and has an actual diagnosis now - something he never gave us. I will never forgive myself for throwing away 4 years of her life.

He should have his medical license stripped. Don't walk - RUN!

Dr. Desantis is truly one of the worst mental health professionals I have ever worked with. He was impossible to track down during my hospital stay for depression and didn't check in with me until the 5th day I was there. When he finally got around to seeing me, he diagnosed a condition after having spoken with me for only 5 minutes. Please do yourself a favor and seek mental healthcare elsewhere. My time with Dr. Desantis was traumatic, as his actions borderline medical malpractice.

Rather arrogant and cold in his attitude and approach. Stubbornly narrow in his outlook.

Very weird mannerisms, demeanor, and manner of communicating. Real awkward to talk with at times and definitely lacking in empathy too often. All too often cannot wait to end the session promptly and get you out the door. I was most put off by his laziness in really uncovering the root of my problem.

This "doctor" prescribes more medication than is peer reviewably normal. 5+ prescriptions per patient is not safe. My son gained over 100 lbs under his care in 5 years. Every other physician I have ever spoken with has expressed their concern at his behavior. See someone else, don't let this guy ruin your kid too.

I don't know how anyone could ever have a negative review! You may see this little old man sitting in front of you, but don't be fooled. He is quite keen. Dr. DeSantis pegged each of my family members by the end of the first visit. His demeanor and approach are both calming and reassuring. He has a way of reaching young children who would not normally be forthcoming about their feelings or daily happenings. He has helped my family members greatly. I would recommend him to anyone. I have found him to be a genuinely caring and intelligent person who really knows what he is doing!

Horrible therapist. Diagnosed a "mood disorder" after about 5 minutes. At our next meeting, after I told him about terrible PMS symptoms, and that I am grieving the loss of my mom and working on a new relationship with my dad, he said "Well, I don't agree with you." Oh ok, thanks for your sympathy... He has strange social skills and seems more like a delusional Sigmund Freud impersonator than a real doctor who wants to work with your specific issues. I never went back after that. He also put me on the worst medications that all cause obesity. I went from weighing 103 to 120 in 2 weeks. He refused to acknowledge or treat my ADHD, which was diagnosed by other psychiatrists after an extensive process of testing. All around frustrating and a waste of valuable treatment time.

Our experience with Dr. DeSantis was extremely satisfying on all levels. Both his professionalism and the time he took learning about my son and what makes him comfortable made for a very beneficial counselling relationship. My son is quite introverted and it is very difficult to get him to open up. Dr. DeSantis was one of the few that was able to establish such an important aspect for a successful counseling relationship. His diagnosis was spot on and his recommendations for treatment have brought about significant, positive changes for my son. He's now thriving both academicaly and socially. As a mother, it has certainly brought a great deal of relief, enjoyment and pride.

I highly recommend Dr. Desantis. He has a very calm, reassuring demeanor. He was able to quickly diagnose my spouse with a mental illness that had been missed by other Dr's for years. He has made drastic improvements in the quality of life for my spouse and, as a result, our entire family.
