Dr. Weldon Francis Shaffer, MD

Dr.Shaffer,is a awesome doctor he will explain everything as well as take the time to answer an questions you may have,he performed hysterectomy on me in 2018 and I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr.Shaffer is a awesome doctor,he will listen and explain what u need to know prior to any procedure had bad experiences other places and finally found a good doctor he performed my hysterectomy in 2018 and great outcome so far,would recommend him to anyone!!!

Dr Shaffer is one of the physicians that I saw at Vidant Women’s Care in Washington, NC. I was labeled high risk due to “Advanced Maternal Age”. He took the time to explain what that meant for me and our unborn child on a level that my husband and I could understand. I’m forever grateful to him for making my husband a part of the process, he made it a point to see how he was doing at each of our visits. Due to my “Advanced Maternal Age” there were a quite a few appointments. It seems as if he really takes the time to get to know his patients and their families. His office offered a unique approach to my care, that ask that you see all the doctors in the office who are able to deliver babies so that when it’s time, you are familiar with the doctor who comes in. When I went into labor in the wee hours of the morning, to my surprise it was Dr Shaffer who walked in! His presence alone offered a huge relief for my husband and this being our first child, he didn’t know what actually expect but Dr Shaffer gave us the reassurance we needed to get through the most painful but rewarding experience of a life time. Dr Shaffer and his nurses were great coaches Baby came into the world without any complications! That’s one great doctor. I’ve recommended he and that practice to family and friends alike.

Horrible experience! I had an appointment an was aware that during pregnancy they test for sexually transmitted diseases and was aware of a swab test coming up at my next appointment. I attend my appointment and as I sat in the room waiting for the doctor the nurse mentioned outside the door 3 times, “she’s 20 you want to go ahead an do it?” They wouldn’t allow my mother in the room with me as I requested several times. He comes in talks about normal conversation about how he has 4 children and they are 2 years apart. Doesn’t ask a thing about my pregnancy or stay in the room long enough for me to ask any questions. He tells me to slide down (so he can do the swab test) he doesn’t tell me he’s going to do a chlamydia test or anything he was about to do. When he’s done I ask, “did you just do a Pap smear?” I only ask because the nurse outside the door mentioning, “she’s 20” is what had my suspicion thinking that he just did a Pap smear because what else could she have been talking about ? He says “yep” I said “so that was my first Pap smear ?” (Like wow thanks for telling me) he said “yep” and didn’t say another thing about it like it wasn’t a big deal he just did whatever he wanted to do an didn’t make me aware of the invasive procedure he just performed. I wasn’t expecting a Pap smear till a year from that appointment when I turn 21. Nobody has mentioned the possibility of doing a Pap smear till I was 21 and nobody has ever mentioned that when having children they might do them early sometimes. So I felt very uncomfortable and disrespected that this man did a Pap smear on me and did not tell me about it before or after he did it. To do a invasive procedure that I wasn’t expecting till a whole year from now and not tell me a thing about it, I felt very violated and disrespected. And then I complain and speak with the supervisor and she apologized and asked what could we do about this and I told her how I felt and how he made me feel and she said she’d confront him and the nurse at the Washington N.C. OBGYN. The supervisor lets me know she confronted the nurse at the time an she said she thought they told me about the chlamydia test but she had no knowledge of them telling me about the Pap smear (because they didn’t). So a few months go by I don’t hear anymore about it, my next appointment after that happened I let the female doctor and other male doctor aware of it and wanted to know how could he do that an let them know how I felt. So a few appointments go by and then the day I have my ultrasound and get good news finding out what I’m having, I go into a room an see a female doctor, she briefly talks to me and then mentions quickly that the supervisor was coming in to speak to me and I said “sorry what?” She said it again and here comes the supervisor, I’m in the room by myself and she talks to me for over 30 minutes after I once again explained my experience. The supervisor tells me that because I’ve had this experience and an uncomfortable that (this sorry excuse of a doctor) says that he feels there’s a trust issue now between us so he and the female and other male doctor decide it’s best for his behalf that I have to find another office to attend to avoid him having to deliver my baby. (I have not been setting my appointments with this doctor since he has wrongly handled my care at this office anyways). So how is this doctor getting away with this and how can they retaliate against me a patient who has done no wrong here just because I expressed how this made me feel and my concerns from what he has done. They are pushing me away to cover up his mess while I am half way through my pregnancy. The supervisor says she believes me but he says that “he made me aware” she says “thinks he’s right, typical man”. Vidant Women’s Care in Washington N.C. OBGYN, pushes away their patients to cover up the wrong doing by their doctors and employees. They retaliate against their patients for expressing how you feel. He pushes your care away and doesn’t care as soon as he gets caught in the wrong, he doesn’t apologize and he doesn’t have the nerve to confront you. He tries to save his self by getting rid of the patients he does wrong instead of manning up and admitting to it and apologizing. A coward. This man is arrogant and does not explain anything to you before or after it’s been done. He doesn’t care or listen to anything going on with you. I have been done wrong! What a sorry “doctor”!

DrShaffer will force you into a Csection. He got upset because another physician in the practice started seeing me and he had the office manager cancel my appt with other OB and schedule an induction with him. I was young, scared and dumb... so I went along with it. Once I got the hospital I only was him twice, the 2nd time he just walked in and said “you need a section”. So I’m scared to death thinking something was wrong with my baby. Turns out he just had to be somewhere. He didn’t even come back in and check on me after the surgery. I never saw him again until my 6 week appt, he said that he was glad everything went well... I was at a loss for words because he lead me to believe my son was dyeing. Since this horrible experience I’ve had a VBaC with an outstanding practice that knew exactly who my first OB was without me saying his name. Apparently the hospital was itching to get rid of him because this treatment was standard practice for him. Run!!!!... far away and fast. Many good doctors to choose from, Shaffer is definitely not a good OB.

I was rushed back to the OR for an emergency C Section because my "blood pressure plummeted after an epidural". My Op-report stated I had a C section because my pelvis wasn't large enough to give birth. My birthing experience with Dr. Shaffer was horrible! I had to attend counseling afterwards because of PTSD. He failed to document any of my induction treatment. He just listed I was admitted for fetal distress after I had actually been admitted for 14 hours. After my C section he left the hospital, failing to inform my husband and family of my status. This doctor needs is a disgrace to all OBGYN's.

Horrible human being to patients, staff and fellow physicians. No longer in business. A prayer answered. Long time coming.

He has the worst bedside manner I have ever seen. He comes off pompous and arrogant. Does not listen to the patients problems. He has a diagnosis for you before he even see or talks to you. This man ruined my experience with my last pregnancy by not diagnosing my severe preeclampsia.
