I first saw Dr. Parker five years ago. My periods had started to become unbearably heavy and unpredictable. The final straw was during a work trip when I bled through my tampon and pad on the flight home. I would get anxious leading up to my period, knowing my flow would be life altering. After some testing, Dr. Parker clearly laid out all of my options without judgment or pressure, previously visited gynecologists were ready to open me up, something I wasn’t ready to do. Two years ago, I went to an orthopedist for chronic back pain, the MRI indicated an enlarged uterus, my fibroids had indeed grown and were pushing on my bladder and spine.  I reached out to Dr. Parker again, his bedside manner, knowledge and experience in treating fibroids put me at ease and I decided to have the surgery. Surgery went smoothly and was relatively painless. I am SO PLEASED to report that I am now 4 months post-op and have not had back pain since my surgery.  My periods are slowly getting back to normal and I am no longer anxious to be out in public on days 2 and 3 of my cycle. Dr. Parker was recommended to me by a Yale educated, brilliant friend who has been through many health scares. If it were not for women telling their healthcare stories I would not have found him. My friend’s fibroids had been removed by Dr. Parker with a labroscopic myomectomy years prior, her scars were invisible (she showed me), and she was thrilled with her treatment, insisting that I call and speak with him. Dr. Parker replied to my email immediately (during the holidays and a pandemic) and we set up a teledoc appointment (due to the Covid 19, in-person meetings were not possible). I set up an appointment at the best cancer hospital near me to meet with a gynecological oncologist/surgeon for a cancer- specific second opinion as well. I sent all diagnostic images and summaries to both Dr. Parker and the oncologist. Thankfully my first meeting was with Dr. Parker –because I went into the second meeting more aware and informed. Dr. Parker was knowledgeable, friendly, warm, patient, and interested in my condition and optimistic about possible treatments. He took time to answer 100% of my questions, never rushed, and taught me everything about fibroids I needed to know including why they exist and how they form and grow. He’s clearly an academic, a pioneer, and medical expert on the subject, and fortunately also a teacher by nature. He did not try to sell his services, happy to refer doctors in my area whom he had trained and supervised, though I chose to do my surgery with him. He had knowledge beyond what you will find in any internet search about the fibroids and gynecological issues, explaining every possible treatment for fibroids, how they work and the eligibility and statistical outcomes of available treatments. He reviewed my MRI images and showed me exactly what my gynecologist apparently had never looked at: the ovary in question was clearly articulated, there was no obstruction, and no cancer. MRI contrast images clearly proved that there was no cancer and he showed me how and why. He did a screengrab for me of the exact images of the ovary in question. I had one large fibroid (1.5lbs) he confidently said he could remove labroscopically, along with three smaller, less concerning ones he could remove as well. At the cancer hospital I went to for a third opinion after seeing Dr. Parker, the oncology expert agreed that cancer was not a concern and said he could do a labroscopic surgery, but was clearly nowhere near as experienced or confident as Dr. Parker. (In a follow up conversation by phone the same week, the other doctor said that he would only do a 6” C-section surgery and remove only the largest fibroid. When asked if there was any way he would remove them all, he was only comfortable with hysterectomy. When asked what the odds were that he would do a hysterectomy while in surgery even after I had chosen to only remove the large fibroid, he said it was very possible. I decided that Dr. Parker was the right surgeon for me once I knew that both he and the oncologist were confident that I didn’t have cancer. It took a few months to get to the surgery, but his staff helped me through a difficult process of getting through insurance, and I finally had my labroscopic myomectomy. Everyone I encountered in the process was exceptional. In my pre-op in person exam days before, Dr. Parker explained everything prior to surgery that would happen. He was with me before I went into surgery the same day, and was completely calm and grounding. I was never nervous with him, (and I have never had a stitch in my life, or any surgery or invasive procedure or anesthesia of any kind). In the surgery, my large fibroid had multiple thicker than usual blood vessels connected to the largest fibroid- and he and his surgical team were able to stabilize my bleeding, make the difficult decision to not open me up with a C-section, and safely bring me back with a complete procedure. He had to leave the three smaller fibroids in due to the length of the anesthesia and risk of further bleeding, and has clarified repeatedly in subsequent conversations the low risk of any issues due to my age, hormonal levels, and even said that I could become pregnant without any risks to the fetus due to the size and location of the fibroids. I was then admitted overnight for two nights at the hospital, and transfused for blood loss. Within three weeks I was back to work and now it has been five weeks, and I am walking 4 miles a day, my incisions are healing quickly and well, and I am able to move around confidently without worry or concern. After the surgery I immediately felt like someone who had been an unwelcome presence in my body for years was gone. It’s hard to describe in words, but I feel like a new person in many ways. Sex is not only not painful now, it’s a revelation. My digestion/elimination is almost completely normal already, which can take time to normalize but did not. Dr. Parker was in communication with me when I came out of anesthesia, and in the days following from the hospital to home, and has been 100% responsive to any questions, even extending the invitation to contact him should I have further questions. If it weren’t for women who shared their story with me, I would not have had this successful and peaceful, positive result. I was empowered and educated with Dr. Parker’s help. The confusion, rush and pressure women encounter to have a not always necessary hysterectomy or trust doctors who lack skill, experience, bedside manners, integrity, or empathy needed in this type of situation is alarmingly common. Where do I even begin! If you are reading this, you have probably been tirelessly dealing with female issues and searching for answers that you have not been able to find. I was in the same space when, by the grace of God, I found Dr. Parker. I have been dealing with difficult cycles since I was 12 years old. What started out as morning sickness and migraines, led me to having very heavy periods, fatigue, debilitating pain, nausea and thus finding a fibroid. I had been to 5 different OBGYN's and was told to go on birth control. I had been on birth control for 10 years and decided to go off of it as I took a more natural approach to my healthcare. Surgery has always scared me and previous OB's told me to try not to get surgery until after I had had children. My fibroid was diagnosed at age 26 and I am 30 today. I was told "try and get pregnant" that will cure the fibroid after childbirth. I was also told to look into the UAE (uterine artery embolization) procedure. That this procedure would not affect my fertility--which Dr. Parker quickly told me it would not be in my best interest if I wanted to have kids someday. Previously, under another gynecologist I was given treatment of my fibroid condition through embolization, but over the years that procedure did not give me the relief I desired. Dr. Parker is the best doctor that I have seen. I have suffered from fibroids and heavy-bleeding for about two years, so I asked around to look for good doctors in the field. One of my friends recommended Dr. Parker to me. Her friend had the problem of fibroids a few years ago. The other doctors suggested her to have hysterectomy. She said that Dr. Parker ordered some tests. After getting the test results, Dr. Parker did not think a surgery is necessary for her considering her age. He prescribed her some medicines and she has been doing good without a surgery since then. Before seeing Dr. Parker, I also went to see other doctors. They said that I have multiple fibroids, so I can only have either open abdominal surgery or hysterectomy if I feel my symptoms are bad. I really did not want to have these invasive procedures. I consulted with Dr. Parker. He explained in detail that my fibroids cause heavy-bleeding and may affect my fertility. Dr. Parker said that he can perform Laparoscopic surgery to remove my fibroids. Then, I decided to have the surgery. However, before my surgery, a few issues need to be handled. One issue was that my insurance company denied the coverage of my surgery. Dr. Parker called the medical director of my insurance company and explained that my surgery is medically necessary. Later, I had questions about my appointments and I also needed some medical advices. Whenever I emailed Dr. Parker, he always replied me very quickly and helped me to solve these issues. It is my first time to have a surgery. I was nervous on the day of surgery. Dr. Parker, and all other doctors and nurses were very friendly and tried to comfort me. After the surgery, Dr. Parker called me to check whether I was doing ok on the next day which was Saturday. Dr. Parker performed my surgery very well. My pains after surgery were manageable and transient, much better than expected. The next day after surgery, I was able to walk around. If you live alone like me, you don’t need to worry that no one can look after you after Laparoscopic surgery. You just need to have somebody to pick you up after surgery and spend the first night with you because you may not feel great after anesthesia. Then, you will be able to live alone the next day. Dr. Parker is an expert in in the field of fibroids. He is very knowledgeable and he really cares about his patients. I have recommended him to one of my friends and I will continue doing it.

For years I was told by several GYNs (including a leading university) that I would have to get a hysterectomy if I wanted definitive treatment to remove my fibroids. Hysterectomy is very destructive so I researched several alternatives and in that search found Dr. Parker. He is regarded as one of the best in the world and has been a long-time pioneer and advocate of minimally invasive surgery and organ preservation. He was confident he could remove the four largest laparoscopically. In the end he removed eleven. The tumors totaled a mass of 15cm x 15cm x 8cm. I am very glad to not be carrying them around anymore and I feel so much better without them. Six hours after surgery I was able to take a 30 minute walk. One week after surgery I was going to the gym. Four weeks later I did a three mile run. I credit Dr. Parker for my recovery as surgery is only as good as the surgeon. I am excited to have my life back and for the first time in a long time, I finally feel like myself again.

As women and a nurse I want to say a big thank you to Dr. Parker who is an outstanding surgeon and have the individualized approach to each patient. I have had a large fibroid and was told by other surgeons that hysterectomy will be the safest choice, but it wasn't a greatest choice for me at all, that was not my choice! Dr. Parker was able to run some test ( blood test LHD, MRI, and hysteroscopy) and determine that laparoscopic myomectomy is acceptable and the way to go. Dr. Parker recently treated me for multiple, large fibroids with a minimally invasive, laparoscopic myomectomy. I had seen a few other doctors who insisted I needed a full hysterectomy, however, Dr. Parker shared several options available. I chose to have surgery without full removal of my uterus. After a couple days, I was pain free and able to walk, move and I was back to work in only two weeks. I'd highly recommend him and encourage women to get a second opinion on fibroid surgical options.

As a woman and a medical professional in integrative medicine, it was clear to me that I did not want a hysterectomy. I searched for a long time before finding Dr. Parker. Dr. Parker was excellent. The day I met him, I immediately knew he was the right person to perform my abdominal myomectomy. I found him to have outstanding expertise in the field of fibroids and women's reproductive health. He understands the quality of life implications as well as the medical implications of fibroids and their associated issues. Further, he has a remarkable bedside manner, which is rare for someone with his level of skill and experience. My abdominal myomectomy went very well. Dr. Parker explained everything to me during my consult and pre-op visits, and I felt confident and prepared going into surgery. He checked in before surgery, met with my family, and made sure I was at ease. This was important to me as it’s natural to have jitters just before the procedure. Following surgery, Dr. Parker communicated with my family and me about the surgery, how it went, and what to expect in the short term. Don’t waste your time with other doctors if you have a choice like Dr. Parker. First time that my OBG doctor at a time diagnosed me with fibroids was about 13 years ago. She said if it wasn’t creating any problems for me she could just monitor it which she did. However, a little over two years ago I started having extremely heavy menstrual bleeding, pain and discomfort and felt a huge lump in my belly which was making me feel uncomfortable doing regular life routines or laying down on my stomach. Ultrasound and MRI showed that I had one big 10-12 cm and two smaller 4cm fibroids. I started consulting with any doctor that was recommended to me by friends and family. During the two years before my surgery I consulted with 5 other OBGYN/Surgeons. As you can imagine it was a painful process. Almost all of them were just recommending what was probably just easy for them, hysterectomy, and not considering my situation and readiness to go through that. They were not saying they cannot do myomectomy, they were saying it is impossible! I was so depressed and frustrated. Long story short, I started googling about fibroid removal specialists and I saw Dr. Parker’s name and more than 250 positive reviews! I called the office right away. Dr.Parker is the most gifted surgeon when it comes to removing Fibroids . I am beyond grateful to have found him and to have him as my surgeon to remove my Fibroids. My journey with fibroids started two years ago when I felt bloated ,tired and looked pregnant . After an ultrasound I found out that I have fibroids (a word I had never heard before) After doing extensive research online I decided to have UFE procedure as I never had the heavy bleeding and my periods were normal. This is where it all went south. After waking up from that procedure I was told that I have an additional blood flow coming from my right ovaries feeding the fibroids and that I would have to redo the procedure again. (This was terrible news).Then within a few days after having UFE (my first surgery ever) I started having massive kidney pains along with abdominal pains, resulting into a 5 day hospital stay. Doctors were unable to figure out why I was having these issues . After that I went to see a urologist that did many tests and said I have hydronephrosis of the right kidney and massive scar tissue. Long story short I had to have a stent put in 3 different times over a 7 month period , surgery to help resolve this issue and I was in and out of the hospital 6 times. I was heart broken having gone in for a simple procedure to help with fibroids and then having major kidney issues as a result . After all this I still had my fibroids and they were growing. I went to 4 other doctors before finding Dr. Parker all of which said different things. Most had advised that I needed a total hysterectomy and would have to be cut open and left with a big scar as this would be a complicated surgery. I was scared to go through all this and was worried that once again I would have complications. Dr. Parker is the best surgeon in this field and I highly recommend him over anyone else. He is so gifted and is also a very warm and personable doctor. Dr. Parker & his surgical staff are quite simply the best. I had a laparoscopic myomectomy at the Koman family outpatient pavilion on UC San Diego health’s La Jolla Campus. My care was excellent from the beginning to the end. The nurses and doctors treat you like family. Anesthesiologist Dr. Jerry Ingrande, came and talked with me at link before the surgery. He knew my medical chart frontwards & backwards. Dr. Parker removed 3 large fibroids. I had no blood loss,the pain was very tolerable just feels like you did a few to many sit-ups, this feeling goes away in a few days. Ladies please don’t let a OBGYN Scare you into having a hysterectomy to remove fibroids. Go see Dr. Parker before you make your decision. Dr. Parker will give you so many options. I did lots of research prior to choosing Dr. William H. Parker (I refer to him as The Wizard) to do my laparoscopic myomectomy. He and his staff are very knowledgable, informative, and simply awesome. My experience with Dr. Parker and his office was amazing from consultation until post op.
