Dr. K. Chinwe Idigo is a licensed psychologist who specializes in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, personality dysfunction, behavioral issues, anger management, and interpersonal difficulties in adolescents, adults, couples, and families.Dr. Idigo’s approach to treatment is collaborative; she believes that people are experts on themselves, and her role is to work with her clients to discover and develop tools they need to foster psychological health. She places great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, and uses the therapeutic space as a tool to foster exploration and growth. Drawing from a variety of treatment modalities including psychodynamic, client-centered, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dr. Idigo helps her clients strengthen their relational skills and empowers them to cultivate a life that is emotionally healthy and fulfilling. She also integrates social context and culture into her treatment
plans to ensure clients are equipped with the tools they need to navigate their social world.Dr. Idigo has experience facilitating therapy groups to address specific clinical issues, such as anger management, women’s issues, and interpersonal skills. Her postdoctoral work at Bergen County’s Division of Family Guidance focused on providing therapy, forensic evaluations, psycho-education, and training to adolescents and their families. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Idigo has been part of a number of research teams and has published in academic journals on topics related to psychotherapy research, cultural competency, social justice, depression, and suicide. Her work has earned recognition, including a Most Valuable Paper (MVP) award from the Psychotherapy Journal, and the American Psychological Association 2019 Award for Distinguished Graduate Student in Professional Psychology for her work developing an emotional regulation skills group for incarcerated women.
