I have had the good fortune of being a patient of Dr. Charles Carroll IV for over 15 years. Within that time he has cared for my hands, including three surgeries (carpal tunnel and tendon release), as well as my shoulder, including acromioplasty, distal clavicle excision, and rotator cuff repair. Through it all, he began with the least invasive treatment, always attuned to my progress and never hesitant to move forward with the surgery when necessary. He was extremely supportive through all of my rehabilitations, providing advice and always taking my own assessments of progress to heart. It is not always common to find such a high level of expertise and compassion in an orthopedic surgeon, but Dr. Carroll is definitely the exception.

I have been a patient of Dr. Carroll's for 30+ years. I have had at least 10 hand surgeries with him over the years due to my rheumatoid arthritis. Back when I first met Dr. Carroll, together we came up with a plan on how to rebuild my hands. He had not only trained under the best, but the method he used was the only one being done that way at the time and it solidified my reason to trust him! He knew his stuff!! He and his team also developed a brace for post-op that had never been used before. Because of that, I was able to live a long productive life with those hands. It wasn't until 30 some years later that we needed to try and rebuild them again plus my thumbs....with a few replacements in between. There is no other doctor I would trust to work on my hands! His skill and knowledge, his professionalism and his ability has made him a REMARKABLE surgeon! (Plus he never misses the chance to go above and beyond!)

I recently had hand surgery with Dr Carroll. He was extremely professional, had a good bedside manner and was knowledgeable. He was able to diagnose and advise treatment options for my problem but ultimately allowed me to chose the path.

I had never broken a bone before, and this winter I slipped and broke my wrist in several places. I went to the ER at Skokie Hospital and they recommended a wrist specialist named Dr. Carroll. I called him the next day and he got me in the same day. He took xrays and put my wrist in a splint ,and he said to give it a week as it might still need surgery. Unfortunately he was right and hardware was place in my wrist to hold the bones together. Surgery was done the next day and I began a long road to recovery. Dr. Carroll was with me every step of the way. He explained everything so I could understand and just had an extremely patient and nice demeanor. He set me up for therapy 5 mins from my house which was awesome. Just a kind and knowledgeable doctor and would recommend him in a heart beat. My experience with the Doctor was amazing, and talk about a skilled surgeon whoa!!! In a nice way I hope I never have to see him again, but god forbid something happens he would be my first call!

Dr. Carroll is extremely competent in his specialty and very approachable. I truly appreciated his willingness to discuss my options and concerns! Additionally, I valued the quick progress I made in my recovery. I regard him and his team highly!

Dr. Carroll first fixed my broken finger in 1990. When issues began to occur with other digits, I knew he would be able to provide counsel and medical direction. He is the utmost professional. His candid and experienced care is of an unparalleled nature. He has treated me numerous times and I am so very lucky to have him as my doctor! Highly recommended!

I have known and seen Dr Carroll several times over the past twenty years. He is the most competent hand specialist I know and only uses surgery when necessary. Dr. Carroll is caring and compassionate. He has taken care of my trigger finger and trigger thumb several times over many years, and was as gentle as one can be while giving a cortisone injection in the finger and/or thumb. Dr. Carroll is what a doctor should be caring and a problem solver. I have been seeing Dr Carroll throughout my injury. He never missed a beat. As a busy working pianist in Chicago, I was in a world of hurt when I slipped and separated a ligament in my thumb. I saw Dr. Carroll when I dislocated and broke my right thumb. He had to do surgery because I also tore the tendon and legiments plus had two chipped fractures. Prior to surgery he was very thorough explaining exactly what my injury entailed and how he was going to surgically repair it. I appreciated his bedside manner and his "laymen's" way of explaining the injury and surgical procedure. After the surgery he explained the importance of physical therapy and suggested several home exercises to expedite recovery and full function. Within a couple of months, I had full function of my thumb and was able to grip objects without any discomfort or limitations. Would definately recommend Dr. Carroll to anyone requiring a hand surgeon and if I ever need a hand surgeon again, he would certainly be my choice.

Dr. Carroll was outstanding. He was on time, every time and very professional. He handles his own scheduling and takes a personal interest in your problem and you as a person. If I could give him more than 4 stars I would. I highly recommend Dr. Charles Carroll IV.
