Dr. James Mason

8 minute visit. Dismissal of all my concerns. Over talked me. Never checked my scalp or belly. Pompous. In a hurry to leave!

Went in for Dr. Mason to check a fungal infection that had been diagnosed 4 months earlier as ringworm. By the time I got an appointment the lesions had lessened. It had been a horrible experience and I wanted to discuss it all. He told me the only way to get ringworm was via animals or a young child. I knew an over abundance of intestinal yeast from antibiotics and a weakened immune system was also a cause. He told me it was not infectious, although I knew it was highly contagious. He called Nystatin an antibiotic when in fact ,it is an antifungal! I asked for a body check and it was merger at best. He never checked my scalp at all. He never to look at my belly, but instead asked ME if I had anything on it!?? He ignored my questions on ringworm, seemed to talk fast and over me, never really listening! This whole thing took exactly 8 minutes! There’s no telling what he charged my insurance! The staff was all 20 something who never looked you in the eye! Will not go back.

Went in for a skin check up (I’m a lifeguard in college) and to have a mole checked out. He did not knock on the door before walking in and I was still changing. He did not listen to a single concern I had and judged my job choice the whole check up. Told me that my tan was for looks (Again, I’m a lifeguard). He also judged me for wanting my mole removed and continued to tell me I was being vain about it without letting me explain why I wanted it removed. He constantly talked over me, judging me and never let me talk. He reiterated several times that I was vain and his skin check was quick and could hardly be called a skin check. Will never go back. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Felt beyond uncomfortable, judged, and disrespected. AND ridiculously overpriced for the 7 minute appointment.

Good man, good Doc

Today was my first visit with Dr. Mason. He was very nice and very professional. I would recommend him to my friends.

I made an appointment for a skin cancer screening and to have eczema treated. The dr did not knock before entering the room & I was still changing. He did not introduce himself. When I began to tell him about the eczema he did not listen. Then he spent perhaps 5 minutes doing a skin check; completely skipping my scalp, private regions, chest and belly. I will NEVER see this clinician again.

Dr. Mason is a poor listener, did not even examine me closely, and articulated details that were not even medically accurate. His bedside manner is terrible. Comes across as a pompous jerk.

I made an appointment with Dr. Mason's office to evaluate two areas on my face that I was concerned about. I had an excellent experience. The office staff were pleasant and professional. When I called to make an appointment and expressed my concerns they gave me a timely appointment. I didn't have to wait weeks to be seen, which would have been the case with other offices I called. Dr. Mason addressed all of my concerns. He was professional. He was kind. He put my fears to rest. I will certainly go back to see Dr. Mason and I would confidently recommend him to friends and family.

Well I've had a couple of instances of alopecia (quarter size bald spot that appear on your head) I still lived in waco the first time it happened. Second time I was here in Round Rock, so I went to a local office (with great ratings).. lady told me my hair would grow back in 6 weeks, two months later, no hair. So I made the trip to go visit Dr Mason again, he fixed me up right away, my hair finally grew back. Also told him I was getting dry spots on my skin, all he said was stop using body wash, use regular soap, the spots dissappeared.. I would definitely go back to him if I needed to.

I am very sad to see the negative reviews. I had been to other dermatologists in the Waco, TX area. None of these visits led to a satisfactory outcome. When I found Dr. Mason, it was an answered prayer. To be sure, he does not engage in chit-chat. That is not his job! He listened to my concern and was able to accurately diagnose. I have had significant results and am highly pleased. It seems too many people want doctors to coddle them. This folks, is not necessary. We appreciated his high degree of professionalism and willingness to listen. For those of you that are interested in great medical care and don't need to be treated with kid gloves, give this wonderful doctor a try!

This was possibly the worst doctor I have ever seen. His bedside manor was horrible. He didn't listen to a single thins I said because he was to busy trying to over talk me. Oh and did I mention he never even bothered to look at my skin... Unless he could see it from 3 feet away at the counter. He was completely unprofessional and a complete disappointment.

Horrible visit. I had a large rash on my face and neck. He did not look at me and didn't examine my rash and gave no diagnosis. He demanded cash only. He handed my two tiny medicine samples without him giving me any instructions. The medicine had no instructions either. He wouldn't answer my questions. Rushed me out to get to his next patient. Charged me $80 out of pocket (only cash--his office can't take credit cards) and his office doesn't handle insurance (I have Blue Cross). It was a total waste of money. I now have to find a "real" dermatologist. I see why he only takes cash; I would have stopped any credit card payment.

I was referred to Dr. Mason for a dermatology issue. I've had two visits with him in the past month. I found Dr. Mason to be effective in his diagnosis and in explaining the diagnosis to me. I have looked at some of the other reviews, and I don't think he deserves such vitriolic criticism (I don't doubt the other patients' experiences -- I just think it's possible they're misinterpreting some things). Dr. Mason is a very matter-of-fact guy (I don't know him personally -- just what I observed in the couple of visits). He assessed my skin problem so quickly when he walked in the room that I found myself wanting to explain more to make sure the diagnosis is right. His assessment didn't waiver. I actually went back a second time to make sure the diagnosis was right (because it's something that recurs), and he confirmed it again. He was patient in listening and explaining things. And if you think about it, if you've seen 1000 iterations of the same skin problem, you'd spot it moments after walking into the room too. As far as his "bedside manner", I found him to be straight-forward and thorough in his explanations. Did not find him to be rushed. Anyway, I would give him my recommendation, but if you're looking for a doctor who's outgoing, he may not be for you. Thank you.

I should have listened to the reviews. I just thought that just a few people must have had a bad experience and surely this guy is not as bad as he seems. After all, he has been in practice a long time. Well, he is every bit as bad as what the other reviews say. DON'T go to this jerk. He is just plain dirty looking too! He just sat in the chair and would not even look at my spot on my arm. Only go if your an idiot and want to be treated as one!

I went to this doctor because I had a really bad fever blister that my HMO Doctor sent me to see him. He was so rude and insulted me about how I could have gotten the blister. My spouse and I are committed and have been for 40 years. I was so insulted the way he said it. No tact from this guy. I was really uncomfortable with him.

OMG!!! This man has the worst bedside manner ever! He examined me from across the room. Would not even get up out of his chair to look at my rash. I cannot believe he has lasted in practice this long. I could tell by his office he does not have a prosperous practice. I should have just got up and walked out.

I will not go to him again. He was very rude and inappropriate. Terrible terrible experience.

The worst dermatologist I have ever been to. He didnt even look at my skin nor did he give a thorough examination. Took longer to get the meds than the exam. Very hateful individual, I dont see how he is even a Doctor. If you are scheduled with this doctor trust me just find someone else!!!!!!

I am writing this review so that others will know not to use the physician. He likes to take the $ and spend less than a minute talking with you. He does not examine his patients and expects to be paid. I am highly disappointed with his care. He seems to have no compassion for his patients and concern about their well being.

I am pretty sure this is The same doctor, If not my bad.I went in for a small little spider vein on my nose, very small, I was about 26.Now I am 45 and still have a indentation on the tip of my nose. It was almost as if he used this arching electrical tool and it look like it was set to high because it popped when he use it on my nose tip.I am 45 now still have and went to another plastic surgeon , he tried a dermabrasion now it is a little deeper and redder. Thanks alot
