I’ve suffered from a multi level lumbar failed fusion surgery as well as flat back syndrome for many years. To complicate matters, I have a progressive neuromuscular disease that causes spasticity and tone throughout my body. I’ve met with several neurosurgeons over the years seeking their opinions. They all agreed that a complete revision fusion surgery was needed and that it would be done through either a lateral or anterior approach. None of them even mentioned the need to address the flat back syndrome. I was afraid of the side or abdominal approach because of the additional risks plus I coded after a previous spine surgery due to internal bleeding within the abdomen. Dr. Huang was the first and only surgeon to confidently say that he would perform the surgery through the back. He was also the only one to say that he needed to correct the flat back deformity. Due to his confidence and ability to explain things I immediately felt like he was the man for the job. He was very honest with me about what to expect post surgery. He didn’t sugar coat anything. He performed surgery on August 21st, it was a 10 hour surgery. He completely revised the existing lumbar fusion, went up another level to L2, skeletonized the bones in order to reshape the spine and re-fused me to the pelvis for additional support. I was up and walking the morning after surgery. I spent a few days in the hospital and 5 days at the in house rehabilitation facility. The rehabilitation center is an amazing facility with a team of truly dedicated people. I went home 10 days after surgery which was way ahead of the expected recovery given my neuromuscular disease. My recovery has been way better than expected. I’ve seen the before and after images and it’s mind blowing to see what Dr. Huang has done. He is an amazing person with a very humble yet confident personality. He is a brilliant neurosurgeon. I wish that I could have met him sooner but blessed to have him in my life now. After years of back pain, a fall in May 2022 damaged my spine so I couldn’t walk without help. I used a walker for several months and was treated with physical therapy. Nothing helped until friends with connections to Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center referred me to Dr. Meng Huang. After reviewing x-rays and an MRI, Dr. Huang recommended a three-level laminectomy at HMH. It was a long surgery. But Dr. Huang and his team got me through it with little to no pain; and, after three days in the hospital, I was home and walking tentatively. After home and outpatient physical therapy I am, six months later, walking without assistance. Dr. Huang is warmly direct and caring. And it’s clear from my experience he and his clinical team are excellent. But wait, there’s more. His office staff of Anna and Dawn make sure that everything is well coordinated. And Houston Methodist, a university-affiliated teaching hospital, is amazing.

I had been having chronic lower back stiffness, sharp and dull pains for a couple of years. Getting in and out of an automobile was difficult and awkward, turning overing in bed was challenging at times and getting up after sitting on furniture low to the ground was difficult. Also, walking a hundred yards or more was difficult at times and playing tennis was an impossibility. Dr. Huang came highly recommended to me. I met with him and immediately liked him and connected with him. He is very personable. His diagnosis was Lumbar Spondylosis (degeneration of the vertebrae and disk of the lower back). I did not respond to physical therapy. Surgery was my only option. I was extremely comfortable with and trusted Dr. Huang. I had L4 L5 fusion surgery on January 16, 2023. My surgery was a great success! Post surgery, I no longer had the pain and difficulties that I had experienced prior to surgery. Dr. Huang is highly skilled and very dedicated to his patients. I had the anterior lumbar interbody fusion.. and could not be happier with Dr. Huang and the staff at Methodist. I had numbness in my legs and back pain for 10 years prior to the procedure. I still have a way to go but with Dr. Huang’s guidance and his staff’s help, I see improvements almost daily. Dr. Huang is very professional and very engaging. I fell on 2/11/23 and ended up in the Houston Methodist ER on 2/22/23 for a pain going down my right leg. I could barely walk because of the pain. It was determined that I needed surgery. Dr Huang preformed a L4-5 transforaminal endoscopic discectomy. I was able to go home the following day. It was amazing how the pain was relieved after the surgery. I have a six week recovery period and will be able to resume my yoga and running slowly after this period. I highly reccommend this surgery if needed.

World Class Surgeon, Truly Remarkable! Initially, the thought of spinal surgery always sent shivers down my spine. One day after coming back from a walk, I suddenly suffered from acute pain down my left leg. This left me incapacitated and bedridden for four months. The pain was excruciating, and I felt hopeless! Dr. Huang & his staff are the best! I’m a 55yo male who had a pinched nerve causing severe pain to radiate from my neck all the way down my right arm. Onset was sudden & devastating with Level 10 pain 24/7. I also had numbness & tingling in my right arm along with extreme weakness in both my arm & hand. In fact, my grip strength was measured & revealed that I had 75 lbs of grip strength in my left hand & only 15 lbs of grip strength in my dominant right hand! It was so debilitating that I couldn’t work due to intense pain. I tried rest, physical therapy, pain meds & patches among other remedies. However, they did not sufficiently resolve the issues. Dr. Huang diagnosed the problem as Cervical Radiculopathy. He showed me images from MRI & X-rays & recommended replacement of Cervical disc C7 in my spine. I was apprehensive but he educated & reassured me. Surgery was a total success! I have no pain, full range of motion & strength and I’m back to work! I would recommend him to everyone!

After many years of sciatica pain and increased deterioration of mobility I visited Dr. Huang who discovered a tumor on my spine that was sitting on a nerve as revealed on an X-ray that other doctors had missed. I had slowly been losing range of motion as the tumor grew and had Charlie horse pain radiating down my left calf and thigh. I could not bend to tie my shoes or put on socks. He surgically removed the tumor and I am literally pain free. My range of motion is such that I can bend and even sit Indian style. Dr. Huang is a brilliant, competent and amazing surgeon and I am forever grateful to him.

Dr. Huang and his staff, especially Anna Hernandez, are simply the best. Dr. Huang is the ideal blend of skills: he is obviously a brilliant neurosurgeon, but he is also very approachable and simply a nice guy. He is innovative and clearly loves what he does. His passion for his work and his patients come across very readily in his interactions. At age 46, I never thought I would be writing a review of "my neurosurgeon." My life was normal until I woke up one morning with severe pain in my left arm and shoulder. I could barely move it. It took a few visits with other doctors to arrive at the correct diagnosis (cervical radiculopathy), and I initially hoped that physical therapy would do the trick. Dr. Huang never pushed surgery. He is very conservative and thinks long-term about the entire clinical picture. He eventually did a three-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. I am now nearly eight weeks post-surgery and doing very well. I am extremely grateful for his care.

I had a life changing experience from Dr. Huang. I had extremely painful sciatica (pain down right leg). The pain was so bad I could not sit, stand, or sleep laying down. I spent my time "hunched" over a couch. I would get around the house with a walker, I'm 43 years old and otherwise in good shape. Using an MRI, Dr. Huang identified a herniated disk compressing a nerve. He recommended and subsequently completed a right L5-S1 endoscopic microdiscectomy. The surgery went flawlessly and I was up walking 2 hours after waking from general anesthesia. I went home the day of surgery with no pain. I took pain meds for the next two days out of precaution, however never had significant pain. I was walking 1 mile pain free within a week of my surgery. I would also note that Dr. Huang's staff was amazing. We ran into schedule challenges because I just returned home from overseas and Covid-19. However they worked through every issue professionally and to make sure I received the surgery ASAP.

Dr. Huang is the example of everything medicine should be, and I am forever grateful! Dr. Huang performed a minimally invasive, endoscopic repair of a herniated L4/L5 disc in my spine. The initial injury caused severe pain, weakness, and numbness down my leg which affected my ability to walk or move without excruciating pain. From the very first interaction with Dr. Huang’s staff, I knew I was in good hands. They were able to get me in the office within a few days of my initial injury. During my first appointment, Dr. Huang was extremely kind, compassionate, and understanding. He was very thorough and sat attentively as my husband and I asked many questions and expressed our concerns. Dr. Huang spoke with us for nearly an hour discussing the surgery until we were comfortable. I am a highly active individual, and Dr. Huang took specific consideration of my lifestyle while developing his surgery plan. He suggested to perform the minimally invasive procedure under “awake sedation” instead of general anesthesia so that he could receive the most accurate feedback from my nerves during surgery. I was afraid to do this, but I trusted Dr. Huang. I do not remember anything at all from the surgery, but I am so glad that I opted for the “awake sedation” method. I walked out of the hospital on my own about an hour after surgery with NO MORE pain and only one incision the width of my thumb! I never even took a single pain pill following surgery. Dr. Huang even called me personally the morning after my surgery to check on me. Dr. Huang is highly specialized in his field and takes great care in providing patient-centered medicine. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Huang and his entire team!

Dr. Huang performed surgery on me for my Chiari Malformation. It was a very successful surgery and I would do it all over again if I had the choice. Dr. Huang has excellent bedside manner and is great to work with.

Dr. Huang is excellent! He uses an endoscope to do spine surgery. He was able to fix my herniated disk with an incision less than the width of my pinky! I was walking pain free within an hour after surgery! His staff was amazing! They bent over backwards to get me scheduled. Anna made call after call and pulled strings to get me scheduled ASAP for pre-op and COVID tests that same day as my appointment!!! I have recommended friends and family to Dr. Huang and some have already gone to see him! Dr. Huang is only one of a handful of Dr.’s allowed to use the endoscope! If you have back pain, GO SEE HIM!! For the last 4 years, I have suffered with excruciating lower back pain. I had burning, stabbing pain in my right buttock which radiated down Into my leg with numbness and tingling in my foot and toes. I sent my MRI report and images along with recent CT scan and Myelogram results to Dr. Meng Huang. During my first appointment, Dr. Huang used images from my reports to show me what was causing my problems. We tried Physical Therapy which only worsened the pain and a Steroid Spinal Injection which only provided minimal relief. My experience with Dr. Huang and team was fantastic! I had a endoscopic micro Discectomy and immediately felt relief from the pain of a herniated disc at L5 S1. I had dealt with pain off and on for a year regardless of what I tried (oral steroids, steroid injections). My incision was the size of the tip of my pinky finger and I had no post-surgery pain. I went home needing only a band-aid covering it. Huang is very attentive and spent time explaining the surgery and what to expect before and after the surgery. He was just as attentive at my follow up appointment. I truly felt like he cared about my healing. All of the nurses in the hospital talked about how they liked working with him and how well his patients were healing. It’s three weeks post op and I’m walking on the treadmill and moving up and down the stairs like a champ! I am so thankful that I had the surgery and worked with Dr. Huang and his team!
